Study reveals majority of Gaza war 'journalists' tied to terror groups

Posted in Ynet today:

A new study has found that about 60 percent of the people described as journalists or media workers who were killed during the war in the Gaza Strip were Hamas operatives or members of other terror groups.

The research, published Thursday morning by the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center, examined the identities of 266 Palestinians who were labeled as journalists or media workers and died in the fighting. At least 157 of them were operatives or individuals affiliated with terror organizations.

The study follows an earlier report released by the center in February last year that reviewed the identities of 131 Palestinians described in Gaza as journalists or media workers. The new research looked at an additional 135 Palestinians who have been killed since then and found that about 60 percent of all the casualties in this category were members of terror groups.

According to the findings, 104 of those described as journalists or media workers were Hamas members, including at least 47 who were part of the terror group or served as military operatives. Another 45 were operatives or affiliated with Palestinian Islamic Jihad, including at least 18 identified as members or military operatives. Two were identified as operatives of Fatah’s military wing, two belonged to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, one to the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and one to the Popular Resistance Committees.

The study also noted two media workers who were described after their deaths as military operatives, although their organizational affiliation was not identified. Among 109 additional fatalities examined, eight were identified with Fatah and seven with the Palestinian Authority. No affiliation was found for the remaining 94.

Researchers said the study was based on a list of media workers published by Hamas’ government information office in Gaza. The center cross referenced the list with reports from Palestinian media outlets and with a Hamas document uncovered by Israel Defense Forces troops during ground operations in Gaza. The document included names and roles of operatives in the Gaza Brigade of Hamas’ military wing.

Hamas considers journalists a critical part of its propaganda apparatus and its efforts to shape public perception and incite violence, the center emphasized. Terror groups in Gaza, led by Hamas, operate numerous media outlets aligned with them. Hamas leaders have repeatedly said that the media front is as important as the military one.

Fair enough that is your opinion that 60% isn't that high a percentage but yes, I do disagree.

Not that it's not that high a percentage overall but not that high compared to what I would have expected from reading here and in the media.

But we'll agree to disagree

And everyone knows that this shite isn't worth the paper it's written on but here people are pretending that it isn't just another fabrication in a long line of fabrications used to justify mass killings. I wonder if this 'list' was written in calander format too?

Yup, The famous doctors schedule for watching the Israeli hostages, turned out to be another in the long list of IDF fabrications, they really think the whole world is so stupid to swallow their wholesale lies, thankfully its only a minority that still do.

What's your source for that Belle?

It was widely reported by International media in 2023. The implication being that Drs in that Hospital knew that Hamas were keeping captured hotages in the Hospital therefore justifying targeting Hospitals.

AI Summary:

The phrase "IDF pointing to calendar" refers to a widely circulated incident in November 2023 where an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, pointed to an Arabic calendar on a wall in the Rantisi Children's Hospital in Gaza and claimed it was a "guardian list" of Hamas terrorists guarding hostages.
The Incident and Subsequent Debunking

The Claim: During a press tour of the hospital basement, Hagari displayed a piece of paper and stated, "This is a guardian list where every terrorist writes his name, and every terrorist has his own shift guarding the people that were here".

The Reality: Arabic speakers online and media fact-checkers quickly pointed out that the document was simply a basic calendar listing the days of the week in Arabic (Saturday through Friday). The title of the paper read "7/10/2023 Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood," Hamas's name for its October 7 attack on Israel, and the dates listed started from that day. There were no names of guards or terrorists on the list.

The Response: The incident was widely ridiculed online and led to questions about the credibility of the IDF's intelligence and information. The IDF later told NBC News that a "mistake was made in the translation of part of the table" and that it had issued a "prompt correction," while denying any manipulation of the media.

Media Coverage: The unedited clip was initially aired by some news organizations like CNN, which later quietly cut the disputed claim from some video reports after the debunking.

Oh I see.

You’re still going on about a mistake made in 2023 despite the IDF making a “prompt correction”. And using that to justify your disbelief that about 60% of local journalists in Gaza could have links to terror organisations.

Because if that’s true, maybe there’s a logical reason why so many journalists have been killed in this war. Which would be an unpopular opinion for anyone determined to hate Israel.

Erm......So what ?
You don't need a journalist (Hamas or otherwise) to tell you what's happening.

Just look at the amount of rubble and count the death toll and you'll know that there's been devastation and indiscriminate killing.

Where is your evidence that the report isn't worth the paper it's written on? Just because you don't like something doesn't necessarily make it "shite" or a fabrication.

As far as I am concerned these are allegations not proven facts.
In a population of 2 million, you will have more than one person with the same first name & family name but are two or more different people and many many more people who share the same family name.

Tens of thousands will have the same family name but not even be relatives- are they saying a journalist with the same family name as a terrorist is therefore linked to said terrorist? Certain family names are as common as Smith or Johnson.

What was done to verify the identity? Cross referencing names between two documents isn’t proof of links.

When was the key document found in Gaza that was used to cross reference names? Because before it was found then there shouldn’t have been any of the 131 journalists being killed, right?

77 journalists were killed in the first 10 weeks of the war. Israel didn’t even begin its ground offensive in Gaza until the 4th week of the war. Kind of unlikely they’d have found this very helpful document by November 2023 and only now be announcing it?

Absolutely

'A mistake', hands up who believes that? Imagine thinking that the IDF who operate surveillance in Gaza 24/7 don't have anyone who knows enough Arabic to know the days of the week and can actually fact check what they are spewing before making a big production of filming and announcing it to the world. Just a bumbling army making mistakes but this time, this time despite there not even being a calander or a curtain to be seen they are definitely right.

Twiglets1 · 12/12/2025 05:29

Well this report seems to have touched a nerve with the pro Pal supporters… I wonder why?

Is it really so hard to believe that a large number of local Gaza journalists have ties to Hamas or other terrorists organisations? It isn’t hard to believe unless you have your head in the sand.

It isn’t a case of “smearing” dead journalists. It’s a case of being realistic that impartial reporting wouldn’t be allowed in Gaza. Anyone being vocal in their disapproval of Hamas would be unlikely to prosper under their authoritarian regime.

Unlikely to survive, never mind prosper.

dairydebris · 12/12/2025 07:14

I hope one day journalists in Gaza will be able to write and publish what they learn, see and feel.
None of that is happening under an oppressive murderous death cult government or an oppressive murderous war.

Bloody hopeless for Gazans at the moment.
