What evidence is in the video? It doesn’t even attempt to try to get the shooter on film.

So you believe the IDF should stop and respond to and investigate every allegation (and there are multiple, daily, allegations) made against them during a war?

I haven't watched the video, which I said. I have seen enough traumatic things relating to my work, so I choose not to watch that sort of video.

Are you suggesting that whenever the IDF is accused of killing someone it actually it was Hamas? Because frankly you're sounding a bit ridiculous in your desperation to excuse the IDF.

What about things like airstrikes? Is that Hamas stealing the IDF's planes (without Israel noticing).

There's always excuses seemingly. At least sixty seven thousand excuses.

HellsBalls · 10/10/2025 11:59

The war is over. Israel has to move on from the murders of 1200+ innocents from October 7th, and the loss of their soldiers in the subsequent war.
Palestinians, who started the war, will also have to move on, if peace is to prevail.

SpaceRaccoon · 10/10/2025 13:23

@HellsBalls what worries me is that there are various accounts purporting to be from Gaza saying various things along the line of fuck Israel, destroy Zionism etc etc. I can see their Western supporters gearing up for similar. Are they really going to make the same mistake in another few years?

And the Israeli's march every year openly chanting 'death to Arabs' and 'May your village burn' that's not exactly peaceful is it.

What, all of srael? A state funded national event?
A state funded event like 7 October?

SomeoneSomewheree · 10/10/2025 13:44

The Jerusalem day March, surely you know about it? It happens every year and is a day where Palestinians face both physical and verbal abuse and threats. Also where did i say all of Israel?

The point is there's extremists on both sides.

The Israelis are constantly claiming
new territories whether that be land, villages, olive groves or people’s actual houses.

Everyone NEEDS peace, safety and security that can’t be achieved by one group having ALL the land or the other being held in an open air prison.

Sounds a lot like the ‘mostly peaceful’ Pro-Palestine marches across the UK, every weekend.
Or you can see a difference?

SpaceRaccoon · 10/10/2025 14:16

Honestly you'd think that after suffering genocide and starvation, the victims would be keener to avoid round two?

Urgh. The deal was supposed to be that the ceasefire would take place immediately, with the troops moving back within 24 hours.

Israel is still bombing Gaza and are basically giving themselves until 11pm tonight.

Wrong, Israel declared a ceasefire from midday today (local time) - 10am UK time.

Hamas as well as the IDF were still fighting until the official ceasefire:

An IDF reservist soldier was killed in a Hamas sniper attack in Gaza City Thursday afternoon, the military announces.

The slain soldier is named as Sgt. First Class (res.) Michael Mordechai Nachmani, 26, a Technology and Maintenance Corps soldier in the 614th Combat Engineering Battalion, from Dimona.

The sniper attack came after Israeli and Hamas negotiators signed a deal in Egypt to secure the release of all the hostages held by the terror group in Gaza. A ceasefire as part of the deal had not yet taken effect when the attack was carried out.

Twiglets1 · 10/10/2025 14:54

Also reported late last night @Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice that both sides were still active:

The IDF conducted a series of strikes targeting a residential building in southwest of Gaza City, killing at least four individuals, Palestinian media reported on Thursday evening.

In a statement, the IDF confirmed its attack in northern Gaza, stating a Hamas terrorist cell was "operating in close proximity to IDF troops and posed an immediate threat to the troops operating in the area."

Israeli media, citing defense sources, said that the strike successfully targeted at least two terrorists carrying out activities against Israeli soldiers.

Amazing, never in the history of warfare have two sides carried on fighting up until the ceasefire. Its almost as if this war isn't so very different to the wars that have gone before.

Fair enough. Thanks for looking it up. I'm not sure how neutral a source it is, but I'm not going to quibble on that right now.

The point though is that the ceasefire was supposed to be using place as soon as Israel confirmed it. That's what the plan called for, that was what was anticipated. So it should have started at 11pm last night. The incidents you mention were before this.

The BBC were literally saying that it was supposed to be in place but Israel was still firing. It was only the next morning they announced the official start.

Still, everyone agrees it's started now, so let's see what happens. Hopefully not a lot!

Twiglets1 · 10/10/2025 15:47

Hopefully not a lot indeed @Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice a desire for peace is something we can both agree on.

The BBC aren’t involved in the peace deal by which I mean they report it they don’t get to dictate the terms. It was up to Israel to say when it officially started and they could have dragged it out longer if they wanted to as they had up to 24 hours from when their government ratified it.

There has been some confusion about the peace deal from the media - it’s a new thing and the details change fast. Some of the meetings also got delayed. Nevertheless, we have a ceasefire today and the IDF have retreated to the agreed position in Gaza.

The pressure should be on Hamas now to fulfil their part of the deal which is to return the hostages within 72 hours of the ceasefire starting.

I agree.

I am worried about the dead hostages though. Whilst I hope they can be returned, it's entirely possible that due to destruction of cold storage, the chaos of war, air strikes, that is not possible, or where they've been put has been destroyed. Bear in mind especially that we probably aren't taking about coffins, but body bags here.

Equally, it's possible that they'll actually accidentally return the wrong remains because they won't be recognisable by sight at this state, and Hamas won't have access to DNA testing to confirm.

I'm hoping the agreement has something in it about all this, because it would be a hideous reason for this to fail.

It's just horrific the thought of corpses or body parts being handed over.

We know hamas are animals but to keep dead bodies is absolutely abhorrent. Why on earth couldn't they have handed them over once they'd murdered them, they'd still have the surviving hostages to bargain with. It is so disrespectful surely it should say something in the quran that to keep the enemy's dead body is haram.

You do know that Israel holds thousands of Palestinians bodies as well right?
It's a really grim thing both sides do equally.

A pp was just saying they were worried about the dead hostages and I was agreeing?

SpaceRaccoon · 10/10/2025 16:41

Tragically, Bipin Joshi's name is not on the living hostages list, despite the proof of life video showing him alive a month after his kidnapping.

I'm sure now you're aware that Israel do this, but in far greater numbers, that you will also condemn this as abhorrent and disrespectful?

MushMonster · 10/10/2025 17:04

Best luck to all those living in Gaza and Israel. Let's hope for a final ceasefire, where all parts remain within the agreement and behave in a way that leads to long lasting peace.
And best luck to those hostages who are alive, let's hope they reunite with their love ones ASAP. And those who have died, at least they can rest in peace and the family has a sort of closure.
And best luck to those marching back to their homes or what is left of them. Hopefully it is the last time and rebuilding starts today.
I am hoping, and praying, that this sort of thing does never ever repeat again.

Yes I agree it’s a worry about how they can possibly return all the dead hostages.

I hope the difficulties are understood and this does not upset the delicate peace deal.
