Trump says Netanyahu has agreed to US Gaza peace plan

Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are now in front of the media for their joint news conference, with US and Israeli flags as their backdrop.

Trump starts by saying "this is a big, big day, potentially one of the greatest days ever in civilisation".

He thanks Netanyahu "for really getting in there and doing a job".

"We worked well together, as we have with many other countries," he says.

Sounds like it’s all been a big con.

What exactly have the Arab countries agreed to because it doesn't sound like they’ve agreed to what Trumps put out.

No Surprises then

Exactly, to be "fair" to them they truly could have been blindsided by Trump (again) and they be shocked at the muted sometimes angry responses to their negotiations. I expect they thought they'd be called heroes for "saving Gaza". Bibi and Trump played them like a fiddle.

Why do some posters assume the leaders of middle eastern countries are so dumb that they are easily blindsided? Give them some credit!. Such racism.

Not racism, simple common sense.

If a country (aka Israel) consistently doesn’t stick to agreements then why would any person with an ounce of sense trust them?

Anyone could look at the "ceasefire" agreement with Lebanon (which has been bombed nearly everyday by Israel since it was signed).

Also Trump "I'll stop the Ukraine war within 24 hours of becoming President" and "I have stopped 8 wars this year".

I mean bombing negotiators during negotiations (Iran and Qatar) really makes them trustworthy.

By that logic of never trusting Israel, no peace deal would ever be signed.

Israel and Hamas would be at war forever- is that really what you want?

Don’t you have any empathy for the Gazans who just want the war to be over?

The assumption that all the leaders of the Arab nations have been outsmarted or tricked by Trump is a) very much untrue (in fact the exact opposite is more likely) and b) is indeed racist as it assumes every Arab leader is not as smart as Donald is (which again is a ridiculous assumption).

So yes it is a racist suggestion.

Twiglets1 · 30/09/2025 18:50

On the one hand we get told Trump is stupid (which could be true based on some idiotic comments he has made).

Yet he could apparently run rings around the ME leaders? Racist to assume they are more dumb than Trump.

I simply disagree
The poster could equally have been referring to every
European country for example (in another scenario)

The intention was not to site every Arab country, it just happens to be
So
Hence I disagree by definition

surely they want
war to be over
with peace and freedom from the constraints of others

Unless of course they do want to go back to their lives before October 7th, which is highly doubtful.

Nope, the administrations of Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and UAE are "stupid" or thought they part of Trump very special friends. that's not racist to say. Any person who knows the history of the region knows that the Americans are "agreement incapable" and imperial in nature.

They could just look at Lebanon where Trump has been trying to amend the ceasefire signed last year as it was not favourable enough for Israel.
How about Trumps envoy to Syria Tom Barrack who has said the following things in the last couple of weeks:

"We arm the Lebanese Army so that they can disarm Hezbollah. Who else are they going to fight? We are going to arm them so they can fight Israel? I don't think so. So you are arming them so that they can fight their own people."

video here (where he also says that Israel is attacking Tunisia https://x.com/TheCradleMedia/status/1970448303079772346)

and the following actual racist statement

"There is no such thing as the Middle East, only tribes and villages, while the states were created by the British and the French."

Netanyahu managed to get Trump to make key amendments, how could these so called leaders trust Trump?

https://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-secures-key-edits-to-trump-plan-to-slow-and-limit-israels-withdrawal-from-gaza/

So yep all those leaders are dumb as a box of rocks.

You must be joking … their lives before October 7th were way better than their lives now. Living in tents being displaced over & over again, family members being killed, food insecurity… but you don’t think they would prefer to go back to before October 7th?

Nope, I am far from disappointed.

I'm throughly interested in how this will all turn out for West Asia and the rest of the World. Which is why I have been listening and speaking to the people in the region especially Palestinians from Gaza.

The Times of Israel pointed out a couple of days ago (when the plan was leaked) that the clause doesn’t provide details regarding the Palestinian reform program and is not definitive regarding when the pathway to statehood can be established.

Probably fair to assume it won't be while BN is prime minister. But there are elections in 2026 so he is unlikely to be PM for too much longer.

You may be right, but an Israeli spokesman on BBC News tonight said that if this deal were to go through and the hostages be freed, and taking into account that 76% of the public are in favour of the deal, he could well be voted in again.

HellsBalls · 30/09/2025 21:06

I’ve read a lot of today’s comments, and enough on other forums, to conclude that it’s the Pro-Israel supporters that support the ceasefire a lot more than the Pro-Palestinians.
It’s almost as if the continuing death of the Palestinian women and children is a price still worth paying to deride Israel further.

Then other derogatory comments. Is that just because you don't want them to reach agreement for a ceasefire.

I'm sure they are working hard to try to gain a peaceful outcome whilst people on here snipe from the sidelines 🙄

So let's get this right:

Supporting the peace proposal and stopping the continued death and destruction in Gaza are:
United Nations
United States
European Union countries
Israel
Russia
Saudi Arabia,
Jordan,
United Arab Emirates (UAE), Indonesia
Pakistan
Turkey
Qatar
Egypt

Against the peace deal seems to be
Hamas
Houthi
A number of MN posters

Says it all really doesn't it....

I think some posters are confusing other posters’ reasons for believing the plan may
not work with presuming their doubts mean they do not want an end to the war.

Having just read an analysis by Zivi Bar’el in Haaretz about a lot of the plan being to Hamas’s advantage, I realise I don’t even understand the 20 points as I thought Hamas had to leave and give up their arms. There are so many nuances. Headline:
Trump's Gaza Peace Plan Sounds Promising in Theory, but Clashes With Reality on the Ground
In exchange for the immediate release of hostages, Trump's plan excludes Israel's primary objective of the war: destroying Hamas. Although Hamas will not serve in Gaza's interim civil administration, it is not completely barred from indirectly participating in Gaza's reconstruction

I also just read that there are a lot of Palestinian militias paid for and armed by Israel in Gaza but not really under their full control so that will probably contribute to even more future chaos. Headline:
Slippery Slope: How Gaza Militias Operated by Israel May One Day Replace Hamas as Its Enemy
As Israel prepares to govern the coastal enclave directly without a plan for local administration, there is no functioning government at any district, city, or village level. Experience from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan shows that local militias often turn against their creators and follow only their own authority,

Any understanding on my part of how a peaceful agreement can be reached is non existent at this point except for a vague hoping for the best.

Of course it is a very real risk that today's allied local militia may easily turn into tomorrow's enemy.

But they can only do this with the sizeable support of the local population.

If a large number of the Gazan population wishes to continue waging war on Israel then no peace deal will ever prevent that happening nor will it prevent Israel from retaliating again leading to further deaths on all sides.

One can only hope that after all the death and destruction in Gaza that the Gazan population now want to live a life in peace and prosperity.

But I am not naive enough to believe that this is a given certainty.
