Trump says Netanyahu has agreed to US Gaza peace plan

Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are now in front of the media for their joint news conference, with US and Israeli flags as their backdrop.

Trump starts by saying "this is a big, big day, potentially one of the greatest days ever in civilisation".

He thanks Netanyahu "for really getting in there and doing a job".

"We worked well together, as we have with many other countries," he says.

The territory will be overseen by the board of peace, which is chaired by Trump. The details of the plan show that most of the decisions aren't taken by the board but by its chair. Trump will be de facto leader of Gaza. Technically you're right, it's not going to be an American colony. It's a Trump one, and that's even worse.

For the foreseeable future, Gaza would be a Trump colony, with zero democracy, and with Palestinians having zero say.

The plan goes into detail about investment, partnerships, etc to ensure a good return on the building projects. No coincidence that Jared Kushner is a key individual in this plan. Jared who is talked repeatedly about the 'real estate opportunities', and happens to an a company that would make billions off it.

Do you really think after this America is going to leave? There's nothing to stop America plonking a huge military base there. America previously expressed a wish to annexe Gaza (along with Canada and Greenland!), doesn't concern you that this plan comes suspiciously close? In reality, it would be a colony, but one with absolutely no accountability. Trump could do whatever he likes.

Also, the proposed 'full Israeli withdrawal' which Netanyahu agreed to, he has retreated from this morning, saying the IDF would stay in most of the territory. So actually not a withdrawal at all.

Re your last paragraph

So Netanyahu hasn’t agreed to the deal
or
is still changing it ??

Both!

He's agreed to it, but he's changing the terms of it as he goes along. He clearly thinks it means nothing.

He clearly does not want Hamas to say yes so he had the green light to contend with the annihilation, and making it even more unpalatable before they can even resolve is a clear indication of this.

Who says there will be democratic elections in Israel? Who says they’ll vote him out? There are no guarantees and it leaves Palestine incredibly vulnerable. Of course, Hamas need to go, but this deal is hardly better.

The Israeli constitution? Why would there not be democratic elections in Israel?

Netanyahu is about to lose power before he’s achieved his end goal. I highly doubt he’s going to allow elections when this is going on. So he will continue to delay and carry out a genocide.

He doesn't have the power to stop elections.

Of course he does. All he has to do is continue the war and keep them in a state of watafrw.

I don't think Israelis or Trump will allow that.

I can't believe my post was deleted for saying that posters should open their ears and listen to what people are saying. I'll repeat again, we were right about genocide but you didn't listen, we were right about mass starvation but you didn't listen, we were right about aid distrubtion centres but you didn't listen. This won't end well, no matter how happy clappy and positive anyone is, because there is no intention from anyone in charge for this to end well for Palestinians.

Did you ask MN why your post was deleted? More likely to be the personal attack than anything else.

Who are you talking to here? Who is we? Anyone who said it was genocide in the first weeks was clearly wrong so obviously noone would listen to anything you said afterwards.

There was no personal attack in my post.

Well no, they clearly weren't wrong, they listened to Israels genocidal rhetoric and called a spade a spade. Now 2 years later the UN and every major NGO has confirmed what we said all along, Israel are in fact genocidal(in a not unrelated aside Mumsnet used to delete people for that, calling a spade a spade, because pro Israel posters would report that too). Israel swore in that first week that there would be no food or water in Gaza and we said there will be starvation and here we are with mass starvation.

Posters can cheer this on, just like they cheered on aid distrubtion camps that led to many, many deaths if they like but don't expect people who care about the vulnerable to cheer on a deal that will result in more abuse and more subjugation of some of the most vulnerable people on earth.

Let’s not forget this! He will find a reason to continue this war, no matter what he promises Trump or anyone else.

Well he does have form for sabotaging any deal that doesn’t guarantee his political future.

  1. If you want to find out why your post was deleted, it's best to contact MN, none of us would know why.
  2. You don't appear to like the latest peace deal. Many do. Difference of opinion. The important thing is for peace and for innocent people to stop dying. The peace deal does indeed want to lead to that. No other suggestions are currently on the table. Many countries, including in the middle east are supporting it. It is up to Hamas to agree (or not). It can be seen today that some MN posters don't like the plan, that's ok too, it's not up to any of us.
  3. This is a online forum where people can give opinions on a range of topics. People often disagree, that's fine. I've never come across anyone who wants the conflict to continue and any glimmer of hope that it might end must be slightly good or at least better than this conflict going on and on with no end in sight.

Netanyahu has said he will “forcibly resist” Palestinian statehood.

AKA, he has no plans for peace. Disgusting man.

He probably doesn’t have any plan for Palestinian statehood while he is prime minister. But don’t forget there will be elections in Israel in 2026 as long as the country is no longer at war. It’s just another reason to agree a peace deal isn’t it - so Netanyahu can be voted out as per the democratic system in Israel?

Or am I being too logical and you prefer the war to carry on indefinitely and Netanyahu as the PM indefinitely?

Of course you are. Because it means Israel has free rein to destroy Palestine.

That’s a horrible thing to say to @dairydebris who always speaks with a moderate voice and who has expressed no desire ever to see Palestinian people destroyed. Just because you hate Israel it doesn’t follow that people on the Israel supporting side hate Palestinians- that is something you may fail to understand.

They want the war to stop, as do I. Way, way too many people have suffered and been killed already. No one in their right mind would want it to continue.

It was an impossible task for anyone to come up with a peace plan that everyone would agree on every clause. Nevertheless this one gets enough right that it has been accepted by most of the leaders in the ME & Europe. If that annoys you - tough!

MN doesn’t delete posts for no good reason and they allow the issue of genocide or not to be widely debated as it often is on these threads.

Maybe you don’t understand when your posts veer from passionate about the subject to attacking someone. But if other people see it in your posts they will get reported and deleted, if MN agree.

The British government hasn’t though. Neither has the UN court investigating the allegation come to a decision yet so this is just the opinion of voters at the Labour Conference.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but it gets decided in law courts not Labour conference centres.

Well the members are the party. But anyway as you will know the experts on genocide have already said Israel is commiting genocide, whether spineless Starmer can admit it or not.
