Trump says Netanyahu has agreed to US Gaza peace plan

Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are now in front of the media for their joint news conference, with US and Israeli flags as their backdrop.

Trump starts by saying "this is a big, big day, potentially one of the greatest days ever in civilisation".

He thanks Netanyahu "for really getting in there and doing a job".

"We worked well together, as we have with many other countries," he says.

Labour confirms the genocide

This says it’s a defeat for the gov. You mean the Labour conference had a vote.

DrPrunesqualer · 30/09/2025 15:58

Twiglets1 · 30/09/2025 15:48

The British government hasn’t though. Neither has the UN court investigating the allegation come to a decision yet so this is just the opinion of voters at the Labour Conference.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but it gets decided in law courts not Labour conference centres.

It’s just an update as I’m aware some mumsnetters ( possibly a different thread ) were waiting for Starmer etc to confirm the genocide after the UN did

SharonEllis · 30/09/2025 15:58

MissyB1 · 30/09/2025 15:54

Well the members are the party. But anyway as you will know the experts on genocide have already said Israel is commiting genocide, whether spineless Starmer can admit it or not.

Yes, the members make up the party but they are not the government. As you well know 'experts' disagree.

Yes.
although headline re defeat is quite inflammatory as it’s irrelevant what the U.K. think anyway. Nevertheless still relevant in terms of confirmation of the majority opinion at the Conference.

Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, UN commission of inquiry says https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8641wv0n4go

I suspect they know far more about what constitutes a genocide than you or I. Im going to believe them.

The panel finds that four of the five genocidal acts defined under international law have been carried out against Palestinians during the war.

Starmer hasn't confirmed a genocide though and neither has David Lammy.

Sir Keir Starmer has faced a significant challenge at the Labour Party conference after activists successfully pushed through a motion demanding the government act to prevent “the commission of a genocide in Gaza”.

Mr Lammy, who was foreign secretary until earlier this month, said he believed in “the rules-based order”, when asked about the vote.

He continued: “That means that it must be for the ICJ with their judges and judiciary, and for the ICC, to determine the issue of genocide in relation to the convention; it is not for politicians like me to do that.

It’s not saying Starmer in that image? It says defeat for gov, Starmer is the gov.

Hamas has said it will respond to Gaza peace plan laid out by the US and Israel tomorrow after US President Donald Trump said the group had “three or four days” to respond.

Yup, Axios is reporting "deep Arab anger over Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan." seems that what Trump agreed to with his closed door meeting with the 8 Muslim countries at the UN late last week were changed as soon as his boss Netanyahu arrived at the White House.

➤ Officials from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey were “furious over changes” to the proposal.
➤ Qatar tried to stop the White House from releasing the full text on Monday, but Trump pushed it out anyway and leaned on Arab and Muslim states to endorse it.
➤ Eight countries issued a joint statement “welcoming” the plan without offering full support. Qatar told them discussions with Washington would continue privately.
➤ Trump envoy Steve Witkoff told Fox News the plan has “a lot of buy-in” in the region and in Europe, adding: “Do we have some details to work out? Yes. But… everyone is going to be pushed by [Trump].”

I have been listening to Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem and the reception is varied with the emphasis being that as Palestinians they should have a bigger say.

However across the so called "Pro Palestinian" side the emphasis has been on the collaboration of the 8 Muslim countries which some are likening to the King of Jordan's betrayal in the 1940s. Those leaders are obviously feeling the heat after being cursed out for nearly 24 hours, in Arabic, English, Indonesian, Turkish and Urdu.

Are you seriously implying that Netanyahu is Trump's boss?

Trump is way more powerful.

Netanyahu has now refuted the already weak point 19. in the plan saying there may be a Palestinian state one day.

"Absolutely not, and it is not written in the agreement either. But one thing we did say: we are firmly opposed to a Palestinian state. President Trump also said this; he said he understands our position. He also declared at the UN that such a move would be a huge reward for terror and a danger to the state of Israel. And of course, we will not agree to it."

BelleHathor · 30/09/2025 17:09

Nothing to do with being Jewish...... Tucker Carlson said that Netanyahu himself is saying it in an interview he gave to Glenn Greenwald:

"Bibi’s running around — this is a fact, I’m not guessing about this because I talked to people he said it to — is running around the Middle East, his region in his own country and telling people point blank, just stating it, “I control the United States. I control Donald Trump.” He’s saying that — and again I’m not guessing at all, that’s a fact. I dare them to say that’s not true because it is true. They know it’s true. I’m an American. How do you think it makes me feel even if I didn’t vote for Trump, which I did, I campaigned for Trump, but even if I even if was Joe Biden. I’m an American, you can’t treat — It’s too humiliating. I can’t handle that, and I shouldn’t have to put up with that."

‘It’s Humiliating!’ Tucker Carlson Rages Over Netanyahu ‘Controlling’ US and Trump

Tucker Carlson called Israel's influence over the United States personally "humiliating" in a rant targeting both Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Times of Israel pointed out a couple of days ago (when the plan was leaked) that the clause doesn’t provide details regarding the Palestinian reform program and is not definitive regarding when the pathway to statehood can be established.

Probably fair to assume it won't be while BN is prime minister. But there are elections in 2026 so he is unlikely to be PM for too much longer.

No Surprises then
