Footage shows public executions in Gaza City street

BBC Verify: Footage has emerged showing the public executions of three men accused of being Israeli collaborators in Gaza City.

BBC Verify has verified that the location of the executions was a street outside Shifa hospital in the centre of the city, which is the focus of a major Israeli ground offensive.

Videos circulating on Sunday evening showed at least five armed and masked men, three blindfolded Palestinian men kneeling on the ground and a large crowd.

One of the armed men is heard saying: "The death sentence has been decided for all collaborators".

There are cheers before the three men are pushed to the ground and shot several times in the back of the head. The crowd then praises Hamas's armed wing, the Qassam Brigades.

A Palestinian security official from the Hamas-run Gaza government told Reuters that the executions were carried out by the "Joint Operations Room of the Palestinian resistance".

This is a rare instance in which a public execution in Gaza has been captured on video. There have been previous reports of Hamas using violence on those who dissent. In May, Hamas-led groups reportedly executed four Palestinians for looting aid trucks.

Just wondering which country you think is the most civilised. The most stable countries in the middle east seem somewhat restrictive and often brutal compared to my experience, but I would hesitate to deny their claim to civilisation.

On this we both agree. I guess I was using it as shorthand for 'democracy' because so many people on here seem to link the two. I think I got caught up by the language used by the pro-israeli side.

However, I suspect you're just picking on my wording because you can't actually answer my question. You alleged that other countries in the Middle East act in the same way. Could you please let me know what other countries have tried to force individuals to work for a country that's killing them, and then destroyed them and killed their families for refusing.

This is a hugely serious allocation to make. Do you stand by it, and if so, what evidence do you have of this?

I don't care what their politics are - you don't just go on blowing up people's houses.

You can't honestly expect people to co-operate with the people that have been dropping bombs in their family.

I mean thats what's happened after every war has ended with one side surrendering ever... oh apart from medieval times where every last man was slaughtered and women and children taken as slaves.

Yes of course future Palestinian leadership will have to cooperate with Israel and vv.

They also don't see themselves as against Hamas either.

You know, the ones who brought war on them and their people, and are the reason for the civilian deaths and devastation in this conflict, as well as 18 years of terror murdering and torturing their own people and starting wars with Israel, while stealing aid making their leaders billionaires while ordinary Palestinians live in poverty.

I thought the pro Pal line was that Palestinians were too afraid to go against Hamas and that's why they've held onto power as government of Gaza for 18 years, but here we have Palestinians being offered the equipment and backing of Israel to defeat them but no dice.

Interesting..........

Edited

Interesting …. that Israel is up to their old tricks: just like they backed Hamas to the hilt so as to weaken the Palestinian Authority so there could never be a Palestinian State because of the resulting divisions, now they are trying again using other groups.

Would it be really by any chance be to help the Palestinians, even as they, the Israeli government, continue to bomb the Palestinians in Gaza, and harrass or even kill Palestinians in the West Bank, and steal and their land and settle it? ……. while informing the world that there will never be a Palestinian state?

An allegation? In the court of Mumsnet?

You're confident that no other middle eastern country visits brutal punishment on dissenting people and their families. I hear and see otherwise.

You're the one that has alleged other Middle Eastern countries have done exactly the same as Israel, in killing large numbers of people, and then demanding those same people assist them, and when they refuse bombing them destroying their property and killing their family.

It's not for me to disprove, you as the one that raised this. What proof do you have? Or is it just more throwing dirt and seeing what'll stick?

Not only their homes were destroyed but 36 of the people in them - randomly.

This war is very confusing. It was started by Hamas, who don't wear uniforms and claim that everyone killed is innocent. Identifying the enemy is complicated. The pager explosions were an ingenious way to target them specifically. This looks like another way of identifying who is pro/vs Hamas. Even without access to military intelligence, it doesn't look "random" to me...?

@quantumbutterfly not sure “there are countries as bad as Israel” is the defence you think it is… especially when you include Syria, Egypt and Saudi

pp seemed curious about authoritarianism in the middle east. I think the word civilised was used apparently as a synonym for democracy.

Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice · 29/09/2025 17:51

Many atrocities and human rights abuses have taken place in various Middle Eastern countries. No one's doubting that.

But that's not what you alleged.

You said other countries in the Middle East who are doing the same as Israel, which in this context, clearly meant (as I indeed clarified to you), trying to force people to collaborate with those that are killing them, and when they refuse killing the family by destroying their house.

Do you have any evidence for those really serious claim?
