Good news. Political pressure, protests and letters beginning to work

Thank goodness at least one country is making a stand.

When you have Trump banning the Palestinians ambassadors to the UN meeting in America it's clear that Palestinians need every bit of international support they can get

Everexpanding · 01/09/2025 17:54

Not before time but a start and hopefully harbinger of a changing tide

It’s not just Ireland. They were preceded by Norway.

Fantastic.
Fair play to Norway.

Great news, we need more. Come on UK do the right thing!!

CaramelPecan · 01/09/2025 23:07

Who made the decision in this, Israel or Ireland, as it’s not clear from the article. Doesn’t sound like Israel asked for a renewal.

X commentators seem to say Israel so hardly a ‘win’ for Ireland.

Didn’t Israel close its embassy in Dublin last December due to the "extreme anti-Israel policy of the Irish government" characterised as "antisemitism”?

No not anti semitism just didn't really like Ireland calling out it's massacres of Palestinians.

So didn’t like Israel fighting a war against terrorism then?

That's grand.

It's the mass murder, years old occupation and forced starvation we have the issue with.

Everexpanding · 01/09/2025 23:34

not a war a genocide, 63, 000 Palestinians dead, what more evidence do you need

It’s not about “winning” it’s about saving innocent lives.

Israel moved to a Luxembourg bank. It had nothing to do with the Irish government who would have had to enact legislation to change this (I think)

However it comes on the back of many protests about this - maybe Israel have got the message that the Irish people don’t want any involvement in the genocide.

Winning! That speaks volumes that you would use such a term.

Yes Israel stamped its feet and closed the embassy in Dublin last year by their own choice. They called criticism of the war anti semitism and left their own citizens in the lurch with no embassy.

Oh please. The tone of this thread when I posted was very much in the vein of a win for Irish protestors against Israel despite it being no such thing.

Israel moving the sale of it’s bonds to Luxembourg doesn’t save any innocent lives.

Hamas surrendering and releasing the remains 48 hostages might.

As just stated in my previous post. The tone of this thread was that it was a win for Irish protestors which was extremely clear.

I personally agree with Israel’s opinion on the Irish government and I’m Irish myself.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 02/09/2025 11:43

Ireland is fast becoming the European pariah.

I do wonder about the psychology behind Irish antisemitism. The usual analysis is that Ireland was subjected and harmed by a bigger power, and that that accounts for Irish support for Palestinians.

But anyone with even the slightest awareness of history would see that a people brutally treated and who campaigned and killed for a homeland free of external intervention…would sympathise with Jews and Israel.

So I suppose the Irish impulse is just ‘good’ old antisemitism.

Welcometoshowbusiness · 02/09/2025 11:46

Wanting Israel to stop bombing children is not antisemitism.

Yes I think protestors do see it as a result of their action.

You’re a rare breed here so.

Ireland is not al antisemitic, opposing genocide is not antisemitic is the lady quoted below antisemitic

”Veronika Cohen, 80, a Holocaust survivor who was born in the ghetto in Budapest, said she had come to protest outside Yad Vashem on the day of remembrance because: “I don’t think we can remember our suffering without acknowledging the suffering of Gaza, the deaths of tens of thousands of children, the starvation that’s going on this minute, for which we are partially responsible. It occupies the same place in my heart. She acknowledged that she was in the minority in Israel when it came to speaking up about the terrible cost of the war to Palestinian life. “People here see Palestinians as the other and that’s why they have created a barrier,” she said. “They have managed not to feel their pain and I find that incomprehensible. To me, when I read the stories of their suffering in Gaza, it blends completely into how I feel about the Holocaust.Cohen’s eyes filled with tears as she recalled seeing a recent photo of a young Palestinian boy whose arms had been blown off by Israeli missile strikes in Gaza. “The news story said that when he woke up from his operation, the first thing he did was turn to his mother, and he said: ‘how will I hug you now?’ To me, that’s a Holocaust story. And that’s why we are here: to try to awaken people to their pain in any way we can.”
