Palestine Action demo 9 August

To my amazement, last night I discovered that some posters on MN think that "radical Islam" means simply "Muslim" 😬

I wonder if this explains why so many are unconcerned about who might be pulling the strings behind the "peace" rallies that were first organised on 7 October? Do they know what radical Islam is, how powerful it is, that it is widely acknowledged as the greatest threat to UK national security, that its intentions are clearly stated, that it is 10000000% different than simply observing Muslim faith?

Palestine Action are planning a rally in central London on Saturday and hope to overwhelm the police presence. Is anyone concerned about this? I'm worried that the seeds of civil unrest are being sown, without it being entirely clear who is sowing them.

@Dangermoo if there is one thing I have learnt, that is many pro-Israelis who love to bash pro-Palestinians are often hypocritical in their criticism. Some deep reflection would not go amiss.

Good day to you all.

You did put it forward respectfully but I disagree that support for Palestinians is necessarily selfless - some people will also be driven by religious considerations or cultural considerations which ultimately determines which "side" they support.

Perfectly put. Two sides to support for Palestinians across the world: those, who know what Free Palestine means and those, who think they do.

Not sure whether it's only evangelicals, but really all Christians should support the state of Israel because we believe that God gave Israel that land, it's all related in the Old Testament. Jerusalem is going to be God's holy city in the eternal kingdom.

Well it can be a 'happy ending' for anyone! All you need is to accept Jesus as your saviour and you too will be part of God's eternal kingdom. Not everyone will do so, but it's freely offered to you.

Before I do go, if there are any Jewish people on this thread, I would love to know how you and if you are aware then other Jewish people, feel about the support of those who hold these views?

The support for Israel as the prophecy indicates that Jewish people will be in the land for the second coming and eventually accepting Jesus as the Messiah.

Does this support make you feel uncomfortable or do you not mind as atleast they are still supporting Israel at a time when very few are?

I don't think that's strange at all. Jesus was a historical figure who definitely existed and was definitely a Jew. I too am an atheist, but this is historic fact. What's debateable is whether he was the son of God!

From my understanding, this is correct.

Twiglets1 · 08/08/2025 08:16

I believe I stand corrected that Jesus was a Jew.

Though I've just read that in Islam he is considered a Muslim so now I don't know again... there doesn't seem to be a consensus on this.

Out of interest, do you watch Revelation TV? You don't have to answer, but I find it a fantastic source with their Middle East report.

Interesting you should ask that, I hadn't heard of that particular channel until last week when one of my pastors was actually interviewed along with his son on that channel (they lived Israel for 26 years). Other than that I haven't watched further but I'll take a look through their playlist. 🙂

Thelmaandloulou · 08/08/2025 07:54

Yes, some people may do. But i found it strange that the people in the article discussed above were referred to as 'useful idiots' and 'white saviours' even though they didn't seem to be protesting for any personal gain. Quite ironically a short while later I was very seriously told how Jesus the 'saviour' was going to take over Israel at the end of times and convert all Jews.

You'd be surprised at how much 'self' is involved, there's still plenty to be gained by being seen by others, perhaps one's peer group, to be involved in a cause. Don't mistake just how self-driven people are!

By the way, Jesus won't 'convert all Jews' - they will have the choice just as we all do, to accept Him or not.

How could Jesus be a Muslim hundreds of years before Islam existed?

Of course there’s a consensus on whether Jesus was Jewish. The Gospels telling of a Jewish man going around preaching to Jews quoting from Jewish texts, being claimed as the Jewish Messiah and being crucified as King of the Jews is a bit of a hint.

According to Google:

"Yes, Muslims believe Jesus was Jewish. In Islam, Jesus (referred to as Isa in Arabic) is recognized as a prophet and messenger of God, sent to the Israelites with a message of divine guidance. Muslims believe he was a Jewish prophet who preached to the Jewish people and performed miracles, but ultimately, they do not believe he was crucified or resurrected in the way that Christians believe."

noblegiraffe · 08/08/2025 09:43

The police are warning that people supporting Palestine Action can be arrested under the Terrorism Act may find themselves unable to work in education in the future or travel to the US.

So a pretty big sacrifice to support a group who attack police officers with sledgehammers.

Islam hadn't been invented so he can't have been muslim! He was absolutely a Jew.

Well, things took a turn last night! I wasn't expecting to be discussing Jesus on this thread 😀 but it does show how a religious perspective can colour worldviews in a way that is no longer familiar to the largely secular UK population of the 21st century.

@Thelmaandloulou you said I was disappearing down a rabbithole of conspiracy theories, but I don't think so. A conspiracy is something hidden that requires careful investigation. Islamic jihad is a bit of an umbrella term for all sorts of things, but at its most extreme it makes absolutely no secret of wanting to impose Sharia law and seeking to dispose of anything that gets in the way of that (literally, "war on infidels"). Efforts in this direction are rewarded with Paradise, which means nothing to us but is a huge gilded carrot for those who believe in it.

This article describes the threat to Europe by individuals radicalised since Oct 2023 by online propaganda (including AI deepfake):
https://www.europol.europa.eu/media-press/newsroom/news/new-report-terrorists-exploiting-global-tensions

Key figures from 2023:
120 terrorist incidents across seven EU Member States, including 98 completed attacks, 9 failed attempts, and 13 foiled plots, marking a significant rise from 2022.
6 fatalities and 12 injuries resulted from jihadist attacks, the deadliest form of terrorism in the EU.
426 arrests for terrorism-related offences were made across 22 Member States, with jihadist offences accounting for 78 % of the total.

It will be, errrrmmm, "interesting" to see what happens tomorrow. I hope as usual our home security has things under control. I really don't want to end up like France. We had a holiday in Brittany a couple of winters ago and were shocked to see the Christmas street market patrolled by dozens of gendarmes armed with MP5s. In shops like LIDL, the in/out doors were controlled so that no one could simultaneously enter/leave, and bags searched.

I think either people can say whatever they want, do whatever they want and target anyone they want or they can't.

If groups like Palestine action can vandalise British military, frighten Jewish students, cause bother outside synagogues, say things most Jews find deeply upsetting then the same freedoms should apply to other groups.

Unfortunately there's been serious double standards applied. You couldn't target anyone else like that and get away with it.

GentleSheep · 08/08/2025 10:47

Unfortunately we now have the overnight news that Israel plans to take over Gaza City. That's likely to inflame opinions. I'm not sure how that works with where the displaced population will go, but that will likely feed into any protests/marches this weekend.

Yes; and any arrests will be martyrs to the cause and further entrench the victimhood narrative.

A slight defection - I so miss going to Paris. I've travelled there, 6 times on my own and 2 times, accompanied. Such a beautiful city, which has been ruined by extremism.

True...always with the caveat that the core Abrahamic holy books were from texts written a millennia or two ago...and by people with particular privileges in their societies. My understanding is that various scholars work to overlay them with historical and archaeological context, though their independence of thought may be dependent on funding.

I sometimes listen to the Israel Guys on YT and their latest podcast re the situation now developing is well worth listening to. My blood runs cold when they say Hamas has said 'after the Jews then we're coming for the Christians' (at around 25 minutes into the video).

Of course they are. Does a bear shit in the woods? When has anyone ever seen, and I mean ever, a country run by Islamists do anything remotely humanitarian or show any concern whatsoever toward anybody that doesn’t share their theocratic beliefs? Any marches, demands for sanctions, anything? Of course not.

Radical Islam (again, with an emphasis on the radical!) is hostile towards Western values because secular governance is incompatible with divine law. Our focus on individual liberty and freedom of expression, gender equality, etc is viewed as morally corrupt. The concept of universal human rights is considered ignorant because it overlooks religious obligations, which must take precedence over all else. Secular human rights frameworks are frowned upon becuase they undermine religious authority. Don't even mention permissive attitudes towards alcohol and sexuality!

This antipathy towards what is seen as Western decadence, and resentment of how this is leaking into their culture via globalisation and media, might partly explain some rhetorical overlap with Russia (setting aside geopolitical interests).
