How is forced starvation allowed?

1000 replies

Tinycatnoise · 23/07/2025 22:28

The top story in the BBC right now is the starvation of Gazans by Israel. The images are horrifying and not dissimilar to seeing those images of concentration camps in Nazi Germany. I cried seeing those and am crying now. I am sure someone will claim antisemitism because of this statement, but anyone looking at these images of starving children would agree.

How is this still going on? I feel like we are watching a genocide take place that the world has turning a blind eye to. The daily shooting by Israel of people trying to get aid too is just barbaric. If nothing is being done to stop this, what is the next horror that will unfold in the world that people will just accept?

This thread is appalling. Its very strange how just trying to distangle truth from fiction leads to such vitriol. How buying into Hamas's barbaric propaganda machine benefits the poor people of Gaza I will never know.

Yes it is appalling, some posters who don't give a shit that babies are starving and thats all ok and they then tell us what a great country Israel is...

Literally nobody here doesn't give a shit about babies starving but it serves noone, except Hamas (who really don't give a shit), to say everyone in gaza is starving.

So why take the formula from Doctors? many Doctors have said exactly the same thing, so its clearly a policy rather than some poor conscript getting formula for his new born

Sorry but you re tying yourself in knots trying to deny this.

I've given you the sources, so why ask for them?

Edited

Honestly some people have really lost all sense of rationality concerning Israel and there being a WAR.

I would proffer a guess that Israel removed the baby formula in case it was being used for smuggling stuff in. Have you seen a tub of formula? That’s if they even did.

Why do you think Israel should trust Western doctors exactly, when they give interviews spewing Hamas propaganda, accusing Israel of targeting children, and saying they never saw Hamas anywhere, honest guv, when they themselves are constantly accused of being liars?

Twiglets1 · 27/07/2025 15:11

LipstickLessons · 27/07/2025 15:01

I honest to god can't believe you are tying yourself in knots over babies vs disabled babies. It's both. Disabled babies as some posters here have gleefully pointed out are the ones dying first. Then all babies who need formula will die. Is that clear enough for you.

You admit yourself Israel denied the entry of formula. That is Israel deliberately targeting Palestinian babies. That's really disgusting right?

I don't accept that the IDF deliberately targeted babies, they had a block on humanitarian aid entering Gaza and that included formula milk.

You are the one who made a statement that the IDF are targeting disabled babies & children. Now you wish to distance yourself from that comment because you have no evidence so you are changing the subject.

Not one poster has been gleeful about disabled babies dying.

The only disabled baby I mentioned was Mohammed who you don't acknowledge because he has been the victim of people using his misery and the misery of his mother for propaganda purposes and for the purpose of selling newspapers.

Really - a horrible horrible discussion - I am leaving you to it now.

David Collier is a UK-based blogger and self-described “independent researcher” who focuses primarily on defending Israel and exposing what he sees as antisemitism in left-wing politics, academia, and the pro-Palestinian movement.

Some info on him and his article from chat gpt 😉

🔍
1. Strong Pro-Israel Advocacy

  • Collier consistently frames criticism of Israeli policy as either biased, antisemitic, or misinformed.
  • His work aims to counter narratives that portray Israel as a perpetrator of war crimes or human rights violations, especially in relation to Gaza.
  • Articles like this one are designed to discredit viral imagery or stories that could shift public sympathy toward Palestinians.

Motivation: He likely believes these narratives distort the truth, harm Israel’s reputation, and fuel antisemitism.

🛡️
2. Damage Control During Global Outrage

  • The viral photo of Mohammed Zakariya became emblematic of Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe.
  • By “debunking” the photo, Collier seeks to:
  • Undermine its emotional power
  • Shift the blame away from Israel
  • Introduce “reasonable doubt” around claims of starvation or famine
  • Suggest international media is biased

Motivation: Reframe the discourse so that Israel appears less culpable and its military actions more justified.

🧩
3. Tactical Use of ‘Fact-Checking’ Style

  • The article mimics the structure of fact-checking journalism, which lends it a veneer of neutrality or investigative credibility.
  • However, the sources often loop back to pro-Israel social media posts or selective interpretations.
  • There’s no engagement with humanitarian groups on the ground (e.g., WHO, MSF, UNRWA), which all contradict his conclusions.

Motivation: Present a version of events that seems factual, while actually advancing a political agenda.
🧠
4. Audience Targeting

  • His blog is widely read by those who already support Israel’s military actions and are looking for intellectual justification.
  • Articles like this give those readers talking points to:
  • Dismiss famine reports as exaggerated or fraudulent
  • Accuse media of manipulation
  • Reframe suffering as “weaponized propaganda”

Motivation: Equip his base with rhetorical tools to fight back in online debates and political discussions.

⚠️ Final Thought

Collier’s piece isn’t written to understand the complexity of Gaza’s humanitarian crisis—it’s written to invalidate it. That doesn’t mean every sentence is false, but the goal is not neutral fact-finding. It’s reputational defence for Israel during a time of increasing international condemnation.

Yes, Mohammed had serious medical issues like cerebral palsy, and images of him alone are distressing. That said, claiming these images ‘prove there is no famine’ ignores the overwhelming body of evidence. WHO, UNICEF, dozens of aid groups, and official UN statements confirm Gaza is experiencing a man‑made famine: thousands of children admitted for malnutrition, widespread deaths, and near-zero aid access during critical months. One vulnerable child’s condition does not erase the reality of mass starvation and using it to deny that reality is neither accurate nor compassionate.

Twiglets1 · 27/07/2025 15:00

No I think the hunger hierarchy is in your mind if you think there is any reason for the IDF to target disabled babies first then babies then children then women then men.

Any minds that find that a likely proposition must be dark indeed. Isn't it more likely that it's just that babies and children are more likely to be negatively affected by food shortages than they are actively targeted?

So it’s also a complete coincidence the GHF food boxes ordered by Israel just happen to contain NO food suitable for young children or formula for babies.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 27/07/2025 15:13

I would love to know how banning baby formula from entering a country WASN’T targeting babies.

Wow, so this poster is admitting that the picture used to evidence the deliberate starvation of babies all over the media, is not evidence of that all but still proceeds to double down on Hamas propaganda.

Where do you think the UN and NGOs in Gaza are getting their info from?

Why did they refuse to distribute the aid piled up in Gaza to deliberately engineer a man made famine?

I know, it’s like asking for evidence that destroying all the wells, desalination water plants and sewage systems in Gaza predictably results in clean water shortages and therefore causes deaths from water bourne diseases, lack of hygiene and dehydration/heat stroke.

Like it’s some big mystery that humans need clean water to survive in a desert.

Because they die first. Can you not see that? Babies with extra needs will die first. Israel know that these babies will die first. Aid agencies told them that these babies would die first. I mean you really should be questioning your motive and morals when you START from a position of believing evil sub human terrorists and their supporters, who carried out the kind of atrocities of Oct 7th, kidnapped babies and children, and celebrated it.

The UN and NGOs are parroting Hamas, and are absolutely complicit.

Even if you want to ignore them deliberately leaving thousands of tonnes of aid to rot while refusing offers of help to distribute it, to try to DELIBERATELY manufacture a ‘famine’ for people it is supposed to be giving life saving support to (which is arguably much worse than Israel, the enemy, allegedly trying to starve them), those NGOs and the UN were in Gaza for decades while kids were indoctrinated into a martyrdom ideology where death means more than life, exploited and abused as pawns against Israel and now used as human sacrifices in this war.

What is the incentive for the U.N and other international organisations/NGOs to parrot Hamas if there is no truth in what they say re what’s going on in Gaza?

How do you explain the before and after pictures of Gaza including hospitals and schools being flattened? Did Israel do any of it or is it all Hamas?

What sources do you have re aid other than info from a government who has been accused of war crimes? Surely you can understand that when two sides are at war, the truth is somewhere in between both version of events?

Twiglets1 · 27/07/2025 15:27

Obviously there has been some baby formula entering Gaza or there would have been many more deaths than there have been.

Reported in the Times of Israel on July 11th:

Officials from several organizations told the Haaretz daily on Friday that Israel started to impose customs duties on aid purchased outside Israel since partially lifting its blockade in May after 78 days.

COGAT said it does not prevent or restrict the entry of “baby food, including milk substitutes and baby formula, into the Gaza Strip.”

“As evidence, in recent weeks more than 1,400 tons of baby food have been brought in through the crossings, as per the requests of international aid organizations, following stringent security checks,” said the unit.

The officials cited by Haaretz said Israeli authorities are pushing aid organizations to buy their products in Israel, even though they are much more expensive than they would be in the West Bank, Jordan or elsewhere.

The policy has left some aid organizations unable to afford baby formula and other essential products, humanitarian officials told Haaretz.

I don’t think the doctors and nurses who have been in Gaza with MSF and other humanitarian groups who are IN Gaza and are now reporting on what they have witnessed, complete with photo and video evidence are ‘parroting Hamas propaganda’.

It’s not that there are ‘no independent journalists in Gaza’ it is that there are no foreign journalists allowed into Gaza.
