Not sure if that link will work so…

We agree Jews are entitled to a thread discussing antisemitism in the UK. So please stop trying to change the topic to antizionism

When people star distinguishing anti Zionism and anti semitism it will be much easier to do that. The IHRA view is not the only view to be taken into account.

Okay, I'm not being lured into a debate on antisemitism given that you've made it abundantly clear you've come to this thread with the express purpose of showing your utter contempt for victims of antisemitism , so I may as well respond to your "code pink" suggestion in as clear a way as I can

Here's Marco Rubio answering better than I

Who better than to ask how they feel antisemitism is being addressed? Don't take the expertise of the IHRA, when you've got posters telling us differently 🙄

It would make it far easier for them if antisemites got to redefine antisemitism. It's in fairness the first fair point they've made

Have people been conflating anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism on this thread? Or is it the case that people have been calling out comments made in such a way that they are anti-Semitic in spite of the author’s protestations to the contrary? It’s just “I’ve got black friends so I can’t be racist…”.

Interesting that the views of Jewish people are apparently not views you’re willing to take into account when deciphering what anti-Semitism means.

The fact that there is a rise in antisemitism is awful, but who is actually to blame.

Antisemites?

Or is that hate speech to say that?

EllaDisenchanted · 15/07/2025 21:42

Good Jews and bad Jews trope, with a figleaf of ‘Zionists’ for plausible deniability.

I’d argue antisemites are to blame for antisemitism, personally.

Of course they are. God this place is a hideous binfire at the moment.

If nothing else , the October 7 denial we see in here ( like Holocaust denial ) is evidence of antisemitism .

It made appalling reading on here at the time and posters are still harping on it now. Shame on them.

I’m horrified at the springing into the open of antisemitism in the UK. It’s very real, you only have to read here to see that.

I can’t really express what I feel about the pro Palestine fools in this country - there are lots in my town (and workplace, unfortunately). I did call a bloke outside M&S with a massive Palestinian flag a fucking idiot - not my finest moment, but he was a fucking idiot. I went up to a bunch of do-gooding types reading out names of child victims of the war and asked them if they were including the names of the Israeli children murdered and taken hostage - naturally, they weren’t. I think what boils my blood is that they clearly all feel so incredibly good about themselves.

I used to think differently about Israel, I was arrogantly and casually ignorant about their status and power, and I bought a lot of the anti-US and Israel rhetoric in the aftermath of 9/11. and then I woke up and thought, really thought, about antisemitism and its long history, and about the context in which all this is happening. I learnt more about antisemitism. I noticed how my Jewish friends
felt isolated when people on social media piled on Israel for its latest transgression while ignoring every other conflict around the world.

ive posted and argued on here under a few different names about this and I’m so grateful for the eloquence and resilience of some of the posters here, @noblegiraffe @quantumbutterfly @SharonEllis and others, as I’ve felt almost despairingly angry at times about what I hear and read.

I will always do my best to stand against antisemitism and not be silent - but it’s only since October 7 that I’ve realised why that can be so hard - and I’m not in danger of anything except a few mild social consequences.

Perfectly put, my realisation was similar.

What this thread has demonstrated is that there are plenty of antisemites around who seem to think that they're living on the moral high ground.

While denying that rape happened on 7 October
While blaming Jews for the increase in obvious antisemitism
While cloud-cuckoo-landing about a lovely cuddly bi-national state even as Iran and its proxies (Hamas, Hizbollah, the Houthis) are lobbing rockets at the Jewish state with no other aim than to kill as many Jews as possible (while educating their children to hate all Jews)
While refusing to answer questions about whether Jews deserve to have a country of their own
While deflecting questions into comments about how Israeli society works, and thus not answering them
Saying that 'Oh, those Jews, they never let you criticise Israel without accusing you of antisemitism', which I know, from my own extensive experience, is utter nonsense. Legitimate criticism usually sparks lively agreement and informative discussion.

They have reminded me, again, of why I usually stay clear of the CITME board. But though I am not Jewish, I have Jewish friends, I have lived and worked with and been employed by Jews, and I am aghast at the state of things in my own country, which was once seen as a safe haven by Jews fleeing the Arab lands where their communities predated Islam.

All people had to do on this thread was to say, it's appalling that Jews in Britain get flack just for being Jews. I know a young Russian woman. I have no idea what she thinks about Putin, because I have never asked. If I saw her being screamed at in the street for being Russian, I hope I'd have the guts to go and help her. And I say this as someone who loathes Putin and supports Ukraine.

As a PP said, thank you to those who soldier away on CITME day after day. I don't want to name anyone because I will forget some, but you all have my respect.

If you replace Zionist with Islamist and Jew with Muslim in your post would that be ‘Islamophobic’ @veiledsentiments?

Mine too, and MN "completed my education" on this I'm afraid. The past 2 years have been a real eye-opener. Cruelty dressed up with pseudointellectual moralising seems to have become the norm. That and the casual soundbites about "Isreal"... it would all be hilarious if it wasn't so grim.

Interesting that the views of Jewish people are apparently not views you’re willing to take into account when deciphering what anti-Semitism means. @Lolapusht

Please bear in mind that if the number of "Jewish people" = n
then there are at least n+1 opinions held by Jewish people.
(That's one of the problems)
So when "the views of the Jewish people" are canvassed, you will find all sorts of ideas as to what speech or deed falls into the category of being antisemitic. I as a Jew, don't believe Corbyn was an antisemite. Other Jews will, disagree. That's one of the good things about Judaism, diversity of opinion, Oh and you can always find an argument with another Jew, if you want one.
