Israels plan for Gazas future

Defense Minister Israel Katz said Monday that he has instructed the IDF to prepare a plan to establish a "humanitarian city" on the ruins of Rafah, which would eventually house the entire population of the Gaza Strip.

According to Katz, the plan involves moving 600,000 Palestinians, primarily from the al-Muwasi area, into the new zone after security screening. Once inside, residents would not be allowed to leave, the defense minister said.

Katz added that, if conditions permit, construction of the "city" would begin during the 60-day Israel-Hamas cease-fire currently under negotiation.

Israel dont allowed journalists in, oooh we all wonder why? Err no actually we don't wonder we know its because they dont want independent verification by the press of their war crimes. But allowing press and other international organisations into Gaza would give us much more accurate information dont you agree? Might show Israel in an even worse light though.... So we won't hold our breath eh?

Any tactical gains that the Israelis made militarily in Gaza are being erased by what we are seeing on a daily basis and are highly counterproductive.

There is no winning over the ‘hearts and minds’ of the Palestinians.
Hence they find themselves is this position.

There's a great interview with Mandy Patinkin (Princess Bride, Homeland and Broadway actor) where he and his wife talk about Gaza.

Interviewer: Are you thinking or feeling any differently about what it means for you to be Jewish in in this moment?

Kathryn Grody: I hate the way some people are using anti-semitism as a claim for anybody that is critical about a certain policy. You know, as far as I am concerned, compassion for every person in Gaza, you know, is very Jewish. And the fact that I abhor the policies of the leader of that country does not mean I'm a self-hating Jew or I'm anti-Semitic.

Mandy Patinkin: 15 years ago I was in Philadelphia and then I go up to the hotel room. Katherine was in the hotel room and uh the movie was on. She was watching The Princess Bride and just as I walked in the room is that final scene in the movie where Inigo is sitting by the window with the man in black and the man in black asks Enigo would he like to be the next Dread Pirate Robertson. And the Enigo Montoya actor who was me said these words which I did not really know what they meant that William Goldman wrote which I think are the singular greatest words I've ever read. The plan remains on the table because Netanyahu wants it implemented.
He is upset with the army because it seems that while the army is not outright rejecting it, it is not offering practical solutions or ways to implement it.
For now, there will be some back and forth, and Netanyahu has instructed the army to come to the table again and present a different plan, one with a shorter timeline and a smaller budget.
International actors have said this would amount to war crimes, and possibly crimes against humanity – even genocide.
So there will be no outside funding for this concentration. Israel has to figure out how to do this on its own.

There is no ways to practically implement it. It is quite possibly (as well as a war crime) the stupidest idea ever.

Bizarre that someone would claim that "only 30,000k" people being killed was no big deal.

Genocide is not about numbers, it is about intent. The Srebrenican genocide has around 8000 victims, it is still a genocide due to the intent of the Serbs to eliminate the Bosniak population. Intent which the Israeli government as quoted above clearly share towards the Palestinans in Gaza.

Finally, the removal of Palestinians from Gaza is ethnic cleansing, which is also a war crime.

Irish Taoiseach Micheàl Martin has also described the plan as "a concentration camp idea”.

Shame, I used to really love him in Homeland.

Is there a reason you think Jewish people should listen or take heed from an ACTOR, especially one who seems to think antisemitism is inevitable when the only Jewish state defends, and acts to prevent further terrorism against its citizens?

I'm just thinking of how applicable that quote is to the pro-palestinian side too. There'd be no problem if enough people on both sides recognised that - but it's too lucrative for hamas to let go. The connections between Hezbollah and the South American drug trade would also suggest this is not about fairness.

But he is Jewish.

He’s got a platform as an American actor living in the US, and is using it to blame and shame his fellow Jews in Israel for a war they didn’t start, and for defending themselves against a clear and present danger, in a region he doesn’t live in.

Why do you think they should listen to him?

Don't waste your breath/energy, a response like that was predictable and it's why Kathryn Grody specifically spoke about being labelled as a "self hating Jew" in the video. Unfortunately many Jewish people who are speaking out about Palestine are bullied, called names or made fun of.

Remember this couple are in their 70s/80s, they remember experienced the racism of the older days, perhaps some heed should be paid to their experience.

Have they ever lived in Israel or experienced terrorist attacks and threats of annihilation from Palestinians?

Were they living in Israel on Oct 7th?

You don’t have to live or be in Israel to have experience of terrorist attacks. We don’t go around thinking annihilating a population or taking complete control over civilians lives is an acceptable solution to that.

I was thinking the same thing, it appears a Jewish voice is only important when it agrees with them .

I think blaming Israel for fighting a war they didn’t start for global antisemitism and putting Jewish people worldwide in danger, rather than putting accountability on antisemites and those who wish to attack/kill Jews because they are Jews with Gaza as an excuse, is absolutely despicable.
