Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

People often bring up other countries and genocides in these discussions, but there’s a key difference: most of those atrocities weren’t carried out with the backing and funding of close allies. That’s what makes the situation with Israel so different it has strong international support, especially from powerful nations in cluding our own while committing actions that many argue violate international law. That kind of backing changes the moral and political context completely.

But surely if they think you are then you are? Would you tell a black person they were wrong for thinking you were being racist?

Can anyone read Hebrew? Is this translation accurate?

This is extremely worrying, if so?

There’s a clear accepted definition of anti- semitism so no excuses for getting that wrong.

You're right I originally came across it via Max Blumenthal (who I know you'll likely have strong views about). I approach his content with caution, as he does sometimes share valuable information mixed in with more questionable material. He linked to the video, and I followed his source without checking their other tweets. That was a mistake the account clearly has a history of straight-up antisemitism. X since the Musk takeover is a cesspit and deliberately so by design sadly.

That said, I do think the video itself appears to be genuine but I completely take your point about context and source credibility.

Gaza aid ship activists say they expect to be boarded ‘any moment’

Thiago Avila, a Brazilian activist on board the Madleen vessel, posted a video on social media saying someone appears to be jamming their tracking and communication devices.

The Freedom Flotilla activists said on X they expected “interception and an attack from Israel at any moment” and called for the governments of those on board to protect them.

“We’re not scared of them,” said German human rights activist Yasemin Acar, also on board. “The message they have been sending us – that we cannot come closer – is not making us step back.”

Nationals of Germany, France, Brazil, Turkiye, Sweden, Spain and the Netherlands are on the ship.

European parliamentarian Rima Hassan voiced concern over the lack of official response from countries whose citizens are part of the crew.

“No state has responded. The message being sent is that Israel is being allowed to act with impunity, without any guarantee of protection for us,” she said.

At least they understand they are on their own in this ridiculous endeavor.

It seems anyone who isn't 100% in favour of anything Israel does is deemed anti-Semitic. How does that work with Jewish people in Israel or elsewhere who don't agree with it, are they anti-Semitic?

@Jujujudo would you call someone anti semitic who believes in Israels right to exist, that Hamas is evil that October 7th was horrendous but also that Palestinians have a right also to a completely independent state and should not be subject to the horrific current bombing and blockade.

Of course starving babies is wrong. So is raping women and taking hostages. Neither one negates or justifies the other. But best not to explain to a Jew what is or isn’t antisemitic.

Of course not. Where did I say that? What you’ve written here is the way I feel, and also every single one of my (Jewish and Israeli) friends and family. You’d have to presume that an entire nation is deranged and evil to think that what’s happened to both Palestinians and Israelis is acceptable.
