Freedom Flotilla

Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

Well they have called Greta anti-semitic and the "hate boat" Hamas progandists so that would make them legitimate targets in a war situation and for sure that's what it is.

You might want to look back at what happened to other Freedom Flotillas. There’s also mention unthread of some if you rtft. The IDF are the threat here….history has shown it to be.

In this situation I believe any attacks are more likely to come from Israel.

It’s certainly possible that Hamas could martyr them and blame the IDF, if they are allowed to land.
The IDF can’t take that risk though, they won’t be allowed to land.

Why would I derail the thread and start talking about other countries around the world on this thread.

These flotillas are to provoke a reaction from Israel, which the occupants can ‘resist’ in solidarity with terrorists. Nothing else.

Why keep saying mumsnetters hate Israel. Is this a form of shaming or something because I for one am well aware to these methods on the CEM threads.
I hate the actions of the IDF, Netanyahu and his followers.
Neither myself or @sualipa has stated they hate Israel.

Back to the Flotilla

The UK asked because it’s flying under the flag and France, I believe, because it’s carrying French nationals.

That feels like a bit of a leap, to be honest. I don’t “hate Israel” I’m probably just slightly to the left of Haaretz, and I tend to agree with people like Gideon Levy.

I fully recognise Israel’s right to exist that’s not in question. But at the same time, I think it’s important to acknowledge the historic injustices faced by Palestinians, including the forced displacement of around 700,000 people during the Nakba. These aren’t fringe opinions they’re part of a well-documented and complex history.

Israel is a powerful state with strong international support financially, politically, and militarily. It’s more than capable of defending itself. Criticising government policy or calling out human rights issues doesn’t mean someone hates a whole country or its people.
