Freedom Flotilla

Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

The tracker is here but is in and out of action.

More details here, although the latest detour is not covered in the article.

Unhinged?

you like what Israel is doing, so you think all they do looks good.

if it’s a war, then it’s not Israel’s call to prevent them from coming to Gaza.
however, if Israel is an occupier, then the wellbeing of all civilians in Gaza is indeed their responsibility, so starvation of Gaza is on them.

Yes, unhinged. Mentally unbalanced.

Do you think Israel should have let them sail merrily all the way to Gaza to deliver a packet of tampons and some symbolic baby food?

Or do you think it was right that they stopped them?

You have insulted me. I will not discuss anything with you since you are being disrespectful.

NotABottie · 10/06/2025 11:11

What starvation?

Clear evidence please.

There must surely be video of starving people in Gaza by now.

We seem to live in parallel worlds. Sorry, I must be talking about a different Israel. Can you imagine, in our world they prevent entry of food to 2m people for more than 3 months.
I’m glad it’s just here, not in all worlds. Peace to you.

👏👏

The Freedom Flotilla were in International waters and at least 100miles away. Differing reports state 100, 120 and 130 at the time the IDF arrived.

I do think there are some posters here just in bad faith. Not genuine voices, just sharing propaganda. And I have wondered if we should stop engaging with them. We are currently giving them oxygen.

Very true.

So do you think they should have just let them sail to Gaza with symbolic aid? Do you think Greta actually wanted to land in Gaza?

The pp stated Israeli waters.
They were in International waters when boarded.

Doesn’t matter. They had clear intent to enter the restricted zone. There was no ambiguity on what they were planning.

Now where are those tent cities being carpet bombed photos?

Badh · 10/06/2025 08:20

Well call them out @Twiglets1 . Who is sharing Hamas propaganda?

And what I’m saying is more serious than that. There are clearly posters here who believe the Israeli administration wholeheartedly and that’s completely their right in a free country and I understand that people want to believe that Israel is fighting a just war. But there are others making things up - like we have seen above. Which is a deliberate spreading of misinformation and a different thing entirely.

Can I just add, and I posted about this earlier, being on the receiving end of claims about my having an agenda etc. That poster still hasn't clarified exactly what they mean by this.

Anyone who is against Israel's actions does not mean they support Hamas 🙄
Wtf is wrong with some people.

Its a convenient fall back for some when they cant justify what Israel is doing anymore.

Not to be a pedant, but to me having drones flying in close quarters, horrible sounds being played, substance being sprayed on the boat, soldiers coming on board and ordering you to throw your phones overboard and to leave your boat with them sounds like an attacked. You don't only have to be shot, bombed, physically assaulted and rolled over by a tank to experience an attack.

I can well imagine being intercepted by the army of any country would be a frightening experience for anyone.

But it doesn’t mean they were attacked. They were evidently not attacked.

quantumbutterfly · 10/06/2025 10:14

This business of one's man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter...

Nelson Mandela was (I was told) arrested planting a bomb (haven't googled) but otherwise turned out to be a decent human being, his wife Winnie - not so much. The current government of SA, probably not so much either.

MLK was a peacenik associated with non-violent resistance, perhaps you're confusing him with Malcolm X (slightly more partisan).

Remind me who the suffragettes decapitated, mutilated and raped.

They were all accused of being in some way associated with terrorism. All of them. In fact it is very common for people who challenge the status quo to be so. And it was very common in the past.
And yes, the suffragettes too.

Is Israel had allowed them to sail into Gaza, and harm had come to them there, who would be held responsible for that?

That's your interpretation. Attacking is not limited to physical violence.

Go watch the videos of Oct 7th and then come back and tell us that letting a load of, at best ill informed Western privileged do gooders, into Gaza is a good thing in your considered opinion.

Let alone on a boat that has alleged links to Hamas.

Or do you think they will be safe as long as they’re not Jewish so it will be OK?

The Thai man shown laying on the ground incapacitated with injuries to his stomach and getting his head hacked off with a garden hoe was not Jewish.

The guy who did it was in civilian clothes.

As is oft said on here, when people show you who they are, believe them.

Given previous patterns of who kills and maims humanitarians: have a wild guess!

It is so tiresome isn't it @quantumbutterfly

Yes Mandela was involved in a campaign of bombings - but sabotaging infrastructure, not indiscriminate killings of civilians. Some people were involved in some pretty nasty violence - it was a very violent society. There was a peace and reconciliation process to address this. It was painful.

Northern Ireland, politicians on all sides had active terrorist pasts. There was a peace process which addressed this. It was painful.

Some suffragette campaigns were pretty violent - letter bombs etc but hardly a mass terror campaign and they were subjected to horrific violence.

MLK - nonviolent.

Its so lazy to equate the behaviour of Hamas over the years with figures like these, especially after 7 October.

Edited

Can you please explain where someone (and I presume you mean me) equated "the behaviour of Hamas over the years with figures like these, especially after 7 October".
Thanks

No, sorry. It is not my interpretation. It simply never happened.

Words matter. Language matters.

You are weaponising words here.

It’s dangerous. It’s a tactic used by those who radicalise others.

Words matter.

It’s extremely relevant where they were boarded. It’s against International law to sieze a boat and its occupants in International waters.

I haven’t spoken about tents, perhaps you meant to tag someone else on this

Do you not read the news? How can you not know that Israel have been bombing tented areas? (may I add areas that they instructed civilians to evacuate to and called them 'safe zones)

Well if food was stockpiled up with enough to last for more than 3 months, in what world would people be starving?

If that wasn’t the case, there would be visible evidence of lots of people starving as there is in Sudan.

Where is the visible evidence from Gaza?

Do you have any?
