Freedom Flotilla

Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

The tracker is here but is in and out of action.
https://freedomflotilla.org/ffc-tracker/

More details here, although the latest detour is not covered in the article.

like the good people of the kibbutzim that were murdered on 7 October

Humanitarians who were actually tortured and taken hostage.

There seems to be some kind of demented need to take actrocities that were committed on 7 October and, using the exact language, to accuse Israel of committing those atrocities, i.e.“hostages” “torture” etc.

Does anyone actually believe that the Israeli Government is holding the crew of that boat hostage? Or that their intercepting of the boat amounts to torture? Seriously?

Agree with @MyHeartyCoralSnail when she’s says “Once again there is more than a whiff of anti semitism on here.”

Agreed.

I just don't understand the sheer level of spite directed at her from people who hear about innocent people being shot at and killed and say things like it was probably an accident, soldiers are jittery or who make continual excuses for a government accused of horrendous war crimes. But a young woman who hasn't killed anyone, hasn't harmed anyone, has sat on a boat with baby formula trying to do a good thing is fair game for 'mocking' and insults? It's nasty as hell for no reason.

Well said 👏👏👏.

IloveSootyandSweep · 09/06/2025 17:22

So what’s happening to the 12 then.
How long does it take to get to the port.
Why haven’t they been released.
Its been 14 hours !

They didn’t go with the IDF because they wanted to and were picked up unlawfully in International waters

They are being held against their will

izthiszeend · 09/06/2025 17:22

It is tragically ironic that true antisemitism is conflating factual criticism of the Israeli government and IDF actions with antisemitism.
So many highly informed institutions have confirmed illegality, cruelty, inhumanity of Israel, yet we hear again and again accusations of anti semitism. Do you really believe starvation of neighbours, bombing of civilians are Jewish cultural values? You don’t. Neither do we. So try harder with better arguments, if at all possible.

grizzlyoldbear · 09/06/2025 17:23

@GretaGreen I don’t get it either. It’s genuinely grim, internalised misogyny on a mostly women’s site ! All that repressed rage aimed at a young woman whose worst crime is trying to stop the world from burning. It’s so so bizarre, but I suppose if you hold up a mirror, some people don't like it much

Well there is a lot of footage of the murders of the 1200+ Israelis and then the bodies of the hostages to get through.

So, you consider them to have been taken hostage then.

Do you think they’ll be returned like the Bibas babies were?

Or do you think they are perhaps in the process of being deported?

Apparently cording to the news they are being put in solitary confinement
So yes
They were taken against their will.

Im not conflating others on both sides haven’t been taken against their will. This thread is about the Freedom Flotilla though.

Is that according to the same news source that reported that Israel was attacking them?

They will be deported safely back to their countries of origin.

Stop with the hysteria.

It was just a sandwich.

NotABottie · 09/06/2025 17:45

So did they all dump their phones in the sea before the IDF approached?

Not very environmentally friendly to the poor fish with lithium batteries is it?

What were they trying to hide if so?

I’ve seen conflicting reports that they dumped them, and also that the IDF ordered them to, which I would expect they would have ‘resisted’ and filmed for everyone to see if they had the phones when that happened?

Israel also issues fines of up to £100,000 for dumping waste in the sea so it sounds improbable the IDF ordered it. They would have impounded them if anything.

How odd.

This is apparently Greta’s PR team.

Absolutely despicable if true.

What ‘repressed rage’ are you referring to. Any examples?

More hyperbole?

Are you telling people not to respond to this thread any further?

Shame, I’d really like to know if anyone knows what happened to the phones?

How would the shipmates contact family to let them know that they survived their ordeal?

We all know Israel and the evil IDF lie about everything so we still don’t know that they’re OK.

Why would you suppose anyone wants this thread deleted?

I certainly don’t. I think it’s been very enlightening.

It doesn’t come anywhere close to threads that have been deleted.

What a strange comment.

Also, I’m certainly not goading anyone.

I’ve definitely picked up on element of almost willing something bad to happen to the crew.

From my perspective, it would be for nothing more than “See. See. I told you they were pure EVIL”. But I’m definitely open to hearing another perspective.

Just a heads up folks, this thread hasn’t gone the way some poster wanted, role, instead of Greta valiantly fighting Evil Israel they’ve towed her to shore and give her a sandwich. It’s clear Greta et al were never in danger, it’s clear that this was an ego trip literally and figuratively that has come to nothing apart from a free lunch.

i don’t think any Israel supporters want this thread deleted, it shows exactly the misinformation and hysteria about Israel -I would certainly like it to stay..

YourOnMute · 09/06/2025 18:35

Vivi0 · 09/06/2025 10:48

I’m not understanding the extreme reactions, comments and the very dramatic language (Israel have attacked them, they’ve taken them hostage, they’ve committed another war crime etc) to a Government intercepting and preventing what are essentially “danger tourists” from entering an active war zone.

It all seems rather hysterical, frankly.

Except people have been killed in this exact same situation before.

pantsalot · 09/06/2025 18:36

Tens of thousands of dead children is neither hysteria nor misinformation but sleep well you upstanding human.

Badh · 09/06/2025 18:39

Thanks for thinking of me @MyHeartyCoralSnail .

I said many times that I thought that the crew would be returned safely and god willing it seems they will.

And everyone on the thread has behaved exactly as I would have predicted. I’m just happy to chat with the posters here, no matter which side, who stay respectful and happy to debate without resorting to nastiness or name calling.

Israel has acted here in breach of international law. Firstly, international waters. Even if the ship reached Gaza, humanitarian aid is supposed to travel without interference.

Secondly I see a lot of posts decrying the symbolic nature and ego trip nature of the participants. Sometimes that is just what is required. Not all the peaceful movements that we remember and shifted the narrative were anything but symbolic. The women who went out striking dustbin lids in Northern Ireland- what really could that achieve? It was symbolic. Martin Luther King's great march - symbolic. Suffragettes. Many of those events that influenced public opinion at a national and global level were symbolic. When they happened, what could they achieve? Not much. But they started something. They called something out. They opened eyes around the world.

Hopefully when they are home we might be able to find out why the stuff dropped and sprayed by the IDF on and around the boat did this.

Party foam, like used in Ibiza? Welcome party? Here's water and a sandwich and now off you pop 🏡
