Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

I think you’ll find that under international law, Israel did not act illegally but you could check yourself.

They are actually a parady of themselves at this stage. Someone should make a compilation of all the daft statements the Israeli government have made and play it back to them, it might give them a modicum of self awareness.

The yacht is carrying a small shipment of humanitarian aid, including rice and baby formula, all of which will be taken to Gaza, the foreign ministry said.

"The tiny amount of aid that was on the yacht and not consumed by the 'celebrities' will be transferred to Gaza through real humanitarian channels."

Israel imposed a naval blockade on the coastal enclave after Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007.

The blockade, which the Israeli government said was essential to prevent weapons from reaching Hamas, has remained in place through multiple conflicts.

The UK government haven't given any kind of reaction to any of Israels disgraceful behaviour really have they? The one time they tried Israel threw their toys out of the pram and threatened that they would annex even more of the West Bank if their 'allies' stepped out of line. Bullies who use the tactics of terrorists, holding innocent peoples lives to ransom. We will steal innocent families homes and land unless you do what we want. More behaviour that aligns itself with the behaviour of terrorists.

Any evidence for these accusations?

Of course navy vessels and special forces were sent to intercept a boat, that Israel has investigated links to a terrorist organisation with and is currently fighting against, trying to get into an active war zone.

What would any other country in the Middle East have done in the same scenario? Give them sandwiches while they wait for their flights home?

How did Israel know they were unarmed or what they were carrying btw?

Surely Greta and co did a quick google to check what they were getting involved with before they agreed to it?

Did she not check her Brazilian shipmate’s X account at least?

I’m not understanding the extreme reactions, comments and the very dramatic language (Israel have attacked them, they’ve taken them hostage, they’ve committed another war crime etc) to a Government intercepting and preventing what are essentially “danger tourists” from entering an active war zone.

It all seems rather hysterical, frankly.

Torturing them? Behave.

To be frank, I believe Israel quietly welcomed this situation.It gave them the opportunity to smear many of the flotilla members, intercept them with apparent grace, and treat them well while diverting attention from Gaza, where the real story lies: a true humanitarian catastrophe unfolding mostly out of sight.

I am curious about the white substance that was sprayed on the ship by the quadcopters. I wonder what it was?

Greta Thunberg joined a tiny aid boat heading to Gaza with baby formula and medical kits. The Jerusalem Post called it a “selfie yacht” and a “publicity stunt”, even hinting the passengers were helping terrorists with zero evidence.

It’s a clear smear: make the activists look silly so no one talks about what’s actually happening in Gaza families with no food, no water, no help.

Obviously Israel has to come down hard on this nonsense or every virtue signalling rich kid will turn up in a yacht with a handful of nappies & a bag of sugar. Its a bloody war zone FFS.

I’m not so sure about that. I’m not sure there was any “antics”.

The experience alone of being intercepted by a country’s army would be enough to freak anyone out. I’m not sure they needed to add anything extra to do so.

They were told, repeatedly, that they would not be allowed to dock.

I’m pretty sure that would just be used as another example of how the crew were “tortured” by the IDF.

Israel and its supporters can no longer pretend. They are deliberately preventing a boat of peaceful activists from dropping off food and supplies to starving Palestinians. The activists have achieved their goal. They have highlighted what is really happening: this is not about Hamas, this is very obviously ethnic cleansing.

They don’t look too freaked out.
