Conflict in the Middle East

Freedom Flotilla

Badh · 06/06/2025 23:11

Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

The tracker is here but is in and out of action.
https://freedomflotilla.org/ffc-tracker/

More details here, although the latest detour is not covered in the article.

Social media and online news plays a much bigger role than news channels these days. It's all over social media and online forums. The BBC news website have a live feed featuring it. It's right there on the front page of most of not all news sites.

Thunberg has used her celebrity for good and once again Israel have demonstrated a lack of adherence to International law and their actions have aligned them more with the terrorist groups like the Houthis than with the Western countries they pretend to be allies with.

There’s the issue.

Most people recognise that SM is largely agenda driven propaganda. Something ‘trending’ on, say X is highly likely to do so because of bot farms, not genuine interest. We all know that. Even this site was badly skewed by activist accounts during the Brexit debates. So, so many disappeared overnight after the vote.

Sadly this is true. I left X since I realised its full of misinformation. Its a bit of a cesspit regarding comments but some people like it.

No it isnt. Israel is the homeland for the jewish people, if they wish to take that opportunity. Individual Jews outside of Israel have no responsibility to have an opinion and its certainly not the place of non-jewish mumsnetters to tell them what they should and shouldnt say.

I agree I never said I didn't, explaining how something can be interpreted doesn't mean you agree with it. The issue is with the Israeli government and how they use the term antisemitic

The thing is, the only real alternative to its stream of “hot takes” is Bluesky and that place feels like a ghost town. There’s still good content on X, but as you said, you have to wade through a swamp of toxic rubbish to find it. For what Musk has done to what was once an honourable platform, he’s earned the title of an evil bastard and his (former) alliance with Trump only adds fuel to that dumpster fire.

The ‘brave’ part of their plan was sailing across the Med.
They had no hope of ever getting to Gaza and no chance of coming to harm at the hands of the IDF (who are a professional army, not a gang of murderers, rapists, paedophiles, extortionists).

Except for time they shot 10 activists on a flotilla at close range of course.

I discovered this from a 10 minute google as I was interested why this boat was registered in the UK when no UK passengers were on board. It just got worse and worse!

No wonder Israel have no patience with these boats. You would assume the UK government knows the background but refused requests to stop it,

Why have the MSM not reported it?

Answers a lot about the marches, the anti Israel media bias, and all the support Hamas has in the UK.

Sickening.

Totally ashamed of my country.

I wonder if Greta knows?

Senior Hamas operative branded 'serious risk' organised protests

Zaher Birawi, who helped organise recent protests against Israel on the streets of the capital, was described in the House of Commons as a 'serious national security risk' last week.

That's bullshit, Israel sparked International outrage when they attacked and murdered activists in cold blood on the Marmara flotilla.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed the military to screen graphic footage of the October 7 Hamas attacks for Greta Thunberg’s group of activists, who attempted to break the blockade on Gaza this week.

The “Bearing Witness” video is a 43-minute compilation produced by the Israel Defense Forces spokesperson’s unit. It includes raw, uncensored footage showing massacres and the mutilation of bodies during the attack.

Katz said the screening was intended to confront the activists with the reality of the violence committed by Hamas.

“It’s appropriate that Greta the antisemite and her Hamas-supporting friends should see exactly who is the terror group Hamas that they support and act on behalf of, what atrocious acts they carried out on women, the elderly and kids, and who Israel is fighting for its defence against,” Katz said in the statement.

The part we are discussing is this where she said 'Jewish people worldwide should be calling this shit out'. That is holding Jewish people collectively responsible, which is not acceptable.

Those claims were considered very doubful by the Obama adminstration.

The Obama administration has been circumspect in its official statements about Israel's deadly May 31 commando raid on the Turkish passenger ferry Mavi Marmara. In private, however, U.S. officials are questioning Israeli claims that the Gaza relief convoy's sponsor, the Istanbul-based Islamic charity I.H.H., has ties to terrorist groups.

When I come across links to articles using terms like “Londonistan" which, for the record, is where I live I immediately smell bad-faith posting, no matter what the other links are. It's the battle cry of Tommy Robinson and his ilk.

What a fucked up world.

No, Israel aligned themselves with terrorist organizations methods when they seized a boat in international waters and took the crew away. That isn't showing any kind of 'restraint', it's acting illegally against a bunch of unarmed civillians carrying a load of baby formula and tampons in International waters.

If they don't want those kind of comparisons then they should probably start acting within the law like everyone else that isn't a terrorist organisation.

Restraint 🤣🤣. Honestly you do a better job defending the israeli administration then they are doing themselves at the moment.

Does nobody ever question the money spent on those displays of military strength? So far we have accusations of a drone attack on the flotilla’s first attempt last month, accusations that Israel jammed their communications system. Then they send quadcopters and a fleet of their Shayetet 13 and multiple navy vessels.

All to stop a sail boat with 12 unarmed people inside?

Restraint is not the word I’d use.

Currently unproven I would a say but not beyond the bounds of reason given the dubious characters the Netanhayu Israeli goverment is supporting in Gaza.
