Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

The tracker is here but is in and out of action.

More details here, although the latest detour is not covered in the article.

That state is Gaza.

Did you bother to read the links I posted at 9.30 or did the headings offend you too much?

No and having checked I won't,

Freedom Flotilla

That state is Gaza.

It is the state of Israel that has murdered almost fifteen thousand children and has caused more child amputees than any other place on earth with their indiscriminate bombing.

Its obvious to the world who is carrying out genocide

Israel and its supporters can no longer pretend. They are deliberately preventing a boat of peaceful activists from dropping off food and supplies to starving Palestinians. The activists have achieved their goal. They have highlighted what is really happening: this is not about Hamas, this is very obviously ethnic cleansing.

Eh? How are they pretending? The Israel message all along was that the boat wouldn’t be allowed to dock in Gaza. And they said they will drop off the tiny amount of food & supplies on board via official channels.

If the goal was raising even more publicity about an extremely well publicised war then yes, you could say they have achieved their goal. But you could also say it didn’t achieve much beyond making the people on the boat feel virtuous.

Who exactly is it that you think they 'support'?

It's the same old smear time and time again isn't it? Show support for Palestinians and you must be a Hamas supporter. It's so illogical.

It makes perfect sense if you want to deflect from the crimes permitted by Israel. Its used time and time again. Most people can see through it of course.

Because we all need to be told what to think, not how to think.

"tiny aid boat", when apprehended; previously, "freedom flotilla".

perhaps the first occasion that a single ship has been referred to as a 'flotilla'

flotilla - a fleet of ships or boats, especially : a navy organizational unit consisting of two or more squadrons of small warships (Miriam-Webster dictionary)

Yes because that is the important issue. Not the fact that baby formula and tampons are being withheld from innocent civillians in Gaza by an occupying force.

Tim Minchin wrote...sticks and stones can break your bones but words can break your heart.

Shakespeare wrote...the pen is mightier than the sword.....(though I might suggest it would need to be a sharp and pointy pen if you were dealing face to face)

Even the flotilla people themselves arent claiming they are delivering meaningful aid for goodness sake. They have said its 'symbolic'. They are just getting in everyone's way, its pathetic.

It's not at all pathetic Sharon. They have put Gaza's dire humanitarian catastrophe in the limelight. They have shown immense strength and courage in doing so. If Israel don't want people to try and breach the blockade then they should stop blocking aid and starving civilians themselves. They should stop carrying out war crimes and murdering civilians who are trying to feed their children. And before anyone says they are allowing in aid now, it is a pitiful amount that doesn't even feed 25% of the population.

Twiglets1 · 09/06/2025 13:15

It was already in the limelight @Whatsinanamehey

The arrest of Thunberg, a child, is a step too far 🤔

Whatsinanamehey · 09/06/2025 13:16

Adalah, a rights group in Israel that said it was representing the activists, said Israel had “no legal authority” to take over the ship because it was in international waters and because it was headed not to Israel but to the “territorial waters of the state of Palestine”.
“The arrest of the unarmed activists, who operated in a civilian manner to provide humanitarian aid, amounts to a serious breach of international law,” Adalah said in a statement, adding:

Adalah demands the immediate disclosure of the activists’ location and legal status, and their access to legal counsel to enable legal representation before Israeli authorities and tribunals.
Adalah will pursue legal actions to secure the activists’ safety and release.

It was already in the limelight, the subject of millions of words in the media, social media, international diplomacy etc etc its ridiculous to think that anyone would have learnt about gaza for the first time because of this little stunt and if they did they are so disconnected ftom the world that it is of only passing consequence.

Yes, to highlight the fact that occupiers are preventing innocent people from having basic necessities like stopping babies having formula and women and girls having sanitary products. Awful isn't it?
