Freedom Flotilla

Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

The tracker is here but is in and out of action.

More details here, although the latest detour is not covered in the article.

Rima posted this image after the drones dropped / sprayed this white stuff.

The IDF have used phosphorous before…could it be that?

From the report I was listening to, it's some sort of glow in the dark/fluorescent substance. The Madleen had turned it's lights off, so it would enable the Israeli forces to track it in the dark.

Slightly interesting is that this whole operation occurred 130-150 nautical miles away from shore, clearly in International waters aka illegal.

YourOnMute · 09/06/2025 02:12

I've been watching what I can, along with millions of people across the world.
I do think they will be okay because of the media attention and Greta being a high profile figure. The aid has been seized.
The Madleen is a British ship so get onto the government.
As an aside I've seen these same bare arguments in other threads. I think it's genuinely better not to engage in it. It always, always is whataboutery and throwing accusations about. With no willingness to engage.

Alwayslikethis · 09/06/2025 02:19

I really hope they are ok.

Aid? What Aid? A couple of bags of flour? It’s a stupid stunt and it’s already backfired

YourOnMute · 09/06/2025 02:34

That's your opinion, best of luck with it 😊

and why attack at night when they can’t be seen flying drones over that are equipped to kill.
why order them to turn their phones over

and then post pictures of them handing out sandwiches 🤣🤣🤣. Do they think the world is made up of idiots.

They killed 9 on a previous flotilla in international waters, 6 of whom were executed and a further 30 injured. I wonder where all the pictures of them executing those civilians have gone

IloveSootyandSweep · 09/06/2025 04:57

The problem with Netanyahu and all his followers is they accuse anyone with the slightest amount of compassion and humanity for the suffering of the Palestinian people as Hamas followers and anti semites.

The Flotilla is a civilian vessel, carrying unarmed civilians raising awareness of the lack of aid reaching the Gaza Strip.

It is not a war ship with an army.
It is a humanitarian peace vessel.

I fear this very black and white view of Netanyahus. He is clearly a very stupid man
I believe the 12 crew members of the Madleen will not be immediately allowed to go home.
Netanyahu believes they are Hamas supporters and he has already spoke of his intentions in the Times of Israel.

Twiglets1 · 09/06/2025 05:53

@IloveSootyandSweep your posts have been overdramatic. Examples:

"They've been attacked by Israel!"
"So they are torturing them first"
Speculating that they have been "sprayed with a chemical that stung the eyes"
"I believe the 12 crew members of the Madleen will not be immediately allowed to go home".

You're wrong on all counts ... maybe change your media source from the Turkish radio you mentioned because the information you are sharing is designed to instil fear and is false.

The Independent: Israel intercepts Gaza-bound aid boat carrying Greta Thunberg: ‘The show is over’

Israeli forces have taken control of a charity vessel carrying climate activist Greta Thunberg and 11 others that attempted to break a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.

The vessel, a British-flagged yacht named Madleen and operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), had planned to deliver a symbolic amount of aid to Gaza on Monday, including baby formula and rice, and draw international attention to the humanitarian crisis.

The FFC said on Telegram that the boat was boarded overnight before it could reach shore. Israel’s foreign ministry later confirmed it was under Israeli control.

The ministry described the Madleen as a “selfie yacht” and called the mission a publicity stunt.

"The 'selfie yacht' of the 'celebrities' is safely making its way to the shores of Israel. The passengers are expected to return to their home countries," the ministry wrote on X. All passengers were safe and unharmed, the ministry later added. "They were provided with sandwiches and water. The show is over."

Twiglets1 · 09/06/2025 06:18

From the Telegraph:

Israel later confirmed Ms Thunberg and 11 other passengers from the Madleen were being taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod, where the IDF has been ordered to show the group a video of Hamas “horrors” before the activists are deported.

The Israel Foreign Ministry said whatever aid the “celebrities” had brought with them on their “selfie yacht” would be distributed to Gaza “through real humanitarian channels”.

On Monday morning, Mr Katz congratulated the Israeli Navy for stopping “anti-Semitic Greta and her fellow Hamas supporters” and “instructed the IDF to show the flotilla passengers the video of the horrors of the October 7 massacre”.

Isn't it piracy boarding an unarmed ship in international waters?

I would think so but slaughtering tens of thousands of children doesn’t seem to worry them so why would that?

Holding Jewish people 'the world over' to account for it is though.

Twiglets1 · 09/06/2025 06:47

I hope that watching the video of the October 7th massacre will have been educational for the 12 activists.

Greta in particular has a child-like quality. I don’t personally consider her actions anti semitic (though I’m no expert so could be wrong). But I do think she’s delusional as well as young & idealistic so the reality of the massacre may have been particularly hard for her to watch.

Badh · 08/06/2025 22:37

It’s just wild to me how much the ship is bothering the Israeli authorities.

First of all they are accused of launching a drone attack on the previous ship that was for to sail last month. Now they make this incredibly confrontational response.

They are 12 unarmed people in a sail boat containing aid. Hardly the most threatening situation the IDF have dealt with. You’d think they’d keep the statements more low key,

The most threatened thing is the media attention. All comments on the ship from Israel or IDF supporters amount to patronising comments on it being ‘narcissistic’ the ‘selfie ship’.

The ship shakes the control Israel has on the narrative in Gaza and that’s why Israel see it as a threat.

Well they’ll clearly see the absolute horror of the oct 7th attacks and I’m sure like everyone they will be appalled but they already know of this-we all do and everyone condemns it. The people they were trying to help were not responsible though.

We all know about it but have we all watched a video showing graphic acts of rape & murder on October 7th?

I’ll admit I haven’t. I know it would be distressing for me so I’m guessing at least some of them are in the same boat - no pun intended.

Why shouldn’t they? If Israel are claiming that supporting aid reaching Gaza as antisemitic that’s literally dragging Jewish people into it when it shouldn’t have anything to do with them. Jewish people around the world should not feel responsible for the actions of the IDF, if they don’t support it.
It’s incredibly common for people to speak out on atrocities in a ‘non in my name’ way.

One of them was at the funeral of the Hezbollah terrorist leader saying what a great man he was so probably already knows exactly what hames did. I don't think he cares much.

Yes I expect it will be horrific. I’m sure they will all be shocked and upset as it was absolutely abhorrent . Innocent people attacked and tortured raped and killed. What Hamas did that day was awful. Everyone knows what they did was wrong and unforgivable. The only thing is I’m not sure it will make Greta etc regret their attempt to deliver aid to innocent people who were not in any way responsible. Like the victims on Oct 7th the innocent victims in Gaza are also going through horrific torture and suffering.

It was Hamas that were responsible for the oct 7 attacks though . Although i understand hezbollah have similar views. Have the 12 actually condemned the Oct 7 attacks? I would think that’s important and I’d hope they value the lives of all innocent people equally and I’m sure they do but being vocal about these things often helps especially when you want to portray moral superiority

Bumble6 · 09/06/2025 07:08

I presume they are talking about some of the crew members past antisemitism, not getting aid to Gaza
