Conflict in the Middle East

Anti Israel Rhetoric is rife. Why?

1000 replies

cindyhove · 05/04/2025 14:19

As of April 5, 2025, numerous armed conflicts are ongoing worldwide, varying in scale and intensity. According to the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, over 110 armed conflicts are currently being monitored, encompassing both international and non-international engagements.
why is israel the only one to be demonised out of the current 110 conflicts?
The answer is blindingly obvious

True. Because there is no balance here

To be honest though, if I were Jewish, the last place I would want to be is Israel. Maybe I’m being naive but somewhere like the US would probably be much safer.

Many Jews do want to be in Israel. Jewish people I know are intentionally going back there.

springbringshope · 05/04/2025 18:55

Question for you OP. In your mind is there any set of circumstances where people could despise what Israel does without you feeling it is antisemitism?

I went years ago and the oldest church in was there! And I went to the nativity church in Bethlehem, and another one that was so small and cute but cant remember the name. Disgusting lies. Mumsnet should check these lies as many don’t travel much and wouldn’t know the truth, but what utter lies about no churches, and no Christians. One should read Isaac munther a Palestine Christian’s story, he is amazing.

Edited

Bethlehem is not in Gaza. And as an aside do you know how many Christian’s have been allowed to stay there??
As of 2023, Bethlehem’s Christian population is estimated to be around 10,000 individuals out of a total population of approximately 75,500 residents. This reflects a significant decline from 1950, when Christians made up 86% of Bethlehem’s population

People are anti israel because Britain is funding the killing. Not sure if that applies to other conflicts.

Swiftie1878 · 05/04/2025 18:35

And the same for Israel.

Hamas is a despicable organisation.
Israel is supposed to be a civilised state. That is what has shocked me. I’m very unhappy with how it has responded and am struggling to find any defence for a lot of its actions.

The Palestinians overwhelmingly support Hamas. Yes, Hamas victimises them and uses them as human shields, etc, but they are also Hamas supporters. It’s not at all straightforward to separate the two.

Individual IDF soldiers who commit war crimes should be prosecuted, just like individual soldiers in any army should be. And war crimes have happened in every war (including being committed by British soldiers, American soldiers, etc). But it’s highly dishonest to pretend this is about occasional war crimes. The entire Israeli response to terrorism is being attacked and Israel is being held to an infinitely higher standard than any other state on the globe.

If members of another country came in to your homeland, raped and murdered with impunity including babies, how would you want your government to react?

Except israel did not deliberately target civilians like hammas do

Are aid workers not civilians? Because they were targeted. Are journalists not civilians? Because they were targeted?
What about three naked men, one waving a white flag walking towards Israeli soldiers, shouting in Hebrew, all of whom were shot and killed, but then turned out to be escaped Israeli hostages? They were targeted.

Ontheproverbialball · 05/04/2025 15:48

You do realise this is EXACTLY what Hamas did on October 7th? Where is your outrage against the government of Gaza?

Edited

Do you think that people who are appalled at the slaughter of Palestinian civilians, particularly children, weren't outraged at what Hamas did on October 7th?

Most decent people are appalled at the loss of civilian life on both sides, and think that what happened to Israeli babies and children on October 7th was brutal, savage and monstrous. What is happening now to Palestinian babies and children is equally awful and heart-rending.

I am not Jewish but my dad was and all my family on my father's side are/were Jewish. I feel the same way about Netanyahu and his far right government as I do about the leaders of Hamas, Putin and Trump. Corrupt, immoral psychopaths. I don't think that this makes me anti-semitic.

Penathought · 05/04/2025 19:00

Israel also has hostages. At the end of March they were holding over 3000 Palestinians in Administrative Detention - which means they are held in prisons and held without trial, not having committed an offence but on the grounds that the Israelis think they may plan to break the law in the future! Others are held for throwing stones, from the age of 14. A young boy of 17 recently died in Administrative Detention.

effie19 · 05/04/2025 18:37

Probably actively target the perpetrators rather than the nation.

Impossible when the “baddies” hide being the skirt tails of women and children

Don’t even try to compare hostages with prisoners! Disgusting even by MN standards

It’s outrageous to compare Israeli detention to the plight of hostages held by Hamas. Just egregiously offensive.

Ffs they just shot a load of Red Cross members. I honestly don’t give a fuck what religion anyone is but shooting innocent aid workers is not something that any person or country can justify.

JandamiHash · 05/04/2025 19:09

Wildflowers99 · 05/04/2025 18:37

So you disapprove of our tactics during WW2 then? You wouldn’t have authorised the bombing of Germany?

Yes exactly. EVERY war has civilian casualties it’s a guarantee. Israel did it start any of this so it’s ridiculous to expect them not to fight back. People would give that advice to their kids FFS

effie19 · 05/04/2025 19:09

cindyhove · 05/04/2025 18:52

If it was your family you’d say different

Of course if someone attacked my own family in any way, I'd want them to be punished, would I want the killing to go on and on and on indeterminately, and serving no actual purpose, I like to think that as a decent person, no I would not.

This thread will go on and on indeterminately and serve no actual purpose too though, so what's the point?

JandamiHash · 05/04/2025 19:10

Penathought · 05/04/2025 18:38

Many Jews disagree with what Israel is doing to Palestinians, whether in Gaza or the West Bank. Even many Israelis, including the families of hostages who accuse Netanyahu and his Government of prioritising land grab over getting the hostages back. So it is not antisemitic to criticise Israel. And while I agree that antisemitism is defined as a hate of Jews, being a semite does not necessarily means being a Jew, Arabs on the Mediterranean east coast are also semites.

Yes many Israelis are anti-Netenyahu. And can voice that thanks to living in a democracy. I wonder how many Palestinians get away with slagging Hamas off 🤔

Penathought · 05/04/2025 19:10

All Jews deserve sympathy for what was done to them during the Holocaust, remembering the millions slaughtered and tortured. However, the Holocaust was something we did in Europe, not only in Germany but many other countries were complicit. However, it is not fair to expect Palestinians to give up their land because of the Holocaust.

JandamiHash · 05/04/2025 19:11

effie19 · 05/04/2025 18:40

So Hamas' actions in October was the first thing that happened was it? Since you're so eye for an eye, where's your total tally?

Do you know what was the first thing that did happen? Neighbouring Arabs invaded Israel - literally on day 1. To slaughter Jews. That’s where this started. Did you know that?

JandamiHash · 05/04/2025 19:12

The fact is if Muslims had taken that land there’d be no war because neighbouring lands wouldn’t have started the hate. But they did - and Israel has a right to defend itself. I don’t think k people realise that if Jewish people give an inch, the world will take a mile and we will have Holocaust 2.0

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 05/04/2025 19:12

Hoardasurass · 05/04/2025 14:39

There are no churches in gaza nor were there before the war and no Israel are not being antisemitic

What! Yes there are and were churches in Gaza along with a thousand Palestinian Christians. Three churches have been damaged by direct hSt Porphyrius being the oldest one.

Ok great, answer my question then? What's the big total? Who is winning? Who has killed the most people? Bravo to them!! Great news.

You're right. Israel have gone way too far for it to be balanced.
