Conflict in the Middle East

Anti Israel Rhetoric is rife. Why?

cindyhove · 05/04/2025 14:19

As of April 5, 2025, numerous armed conflicts are ongoing worldwide, varying in scale and intensity. According to the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, over 110 armed conflicts are currently being monitored, encompassing both international and non-international engagements.
why is israel the only one to be demonised out of the current 110 conflicts?
The answer is blindingly obvious

Seriously, this isn't a war, it's a genocide. There has never been a war in modern history where there have been so many innocent civilians, particularly women and children killed.

The numbers dwarf every other contemporary conflict including even the Battle of Raqqa, which saw 2,556 civilian deaths over four months. The destruction in Gaza during just October 2023 eclipsed these figures in just 25 days. (5,139 civilians killed)

Over those 25 days over 1,900 children were killed in Gaza, in January 2016, 279 children were killed in Syria. We responded to Syria by bombing them.

As for using Hamas as an excuse for genocide, that's laughable. It would be like the UK government responding to the IRA by killing everyone in Northern Ireland. Nowhere has killing civilians lessened support for terrorist groups, in fact it always does the opposite.

Hamas agreed to lay down it's arms in April 2024, and convert into a political party if an independent Palestinian state is established along pre-1967 borders.

That's a big concession from a group committed to the destruction of Israel. It would have given Israel and opposition parties in Palestine their best chance of peace but Netanyahu was never going to go for it. Both because of his unpopularity domestically and he's a fundamentalist zealot.

You don’t like the fact that it’s a war, but it is. Incessantly banging on about it being a genocide (in your opinion) doesn’t change the reality that it’s a war. One that Hamas started and for which it bears the blame. Civilian casualties are, again, the fault of Hamas.

Your bias is very obvious.

Yes, the willingness to say things like this… It’s very revealing.

Do you think the babies and children who died during the bombings of Germany by allied forces were “murdered”? Or are you just using inflammatory language in this specific instance because it happens to be the sole Jewish state that’s at war.

Yes they were murdered. Some of the things we did during the war were also atrocious.

I couldn’t give a flying fuck which religion/culture/state is murdering people. Do you seem to think just because Jewish people have faced lots of persecution in history the Israeli government should be excused for this? Thats such a fucked up view to have. I don’t blame any Jewish person, or the people of Israel. The only people I blame are the governments playing puppets with innocent lives.

And anyone claiming antisemitism when someone doesn't believe a superpower like Israel should be mass bombing a tiny area full of civilians is quite frankly - dumb.

Hamas are a vile group of extremists. But the fact you think they started the war shows your lack on knowledge on Israel-Palestine relations. This shit has been going on years.

They factually did start this war. Nothing about that statement is untrue, and it’s a shame that you feel the need to descend to personal insults.

Where’s the insult @verysmellyjelly? If they’re wrong what’s the problem with outlining why that is instead of hiding behind pretend outrage at being ‘insulted’. It’s farcical.

Well is there another explanation as to the disproportionately continued/biased coverage?

You've pointedly ignored the explanation I gave. I have to assume that you are not genuinely curious about the answer to your question.

Tuttifrutticutiepie · 06/04/2025 00:20

@OhCalmTheFuckDownMargaret Is that addressed to me?

Let's imagine that instead of "civilians being killed in other countries" we have "ugly buildings".

Now imagine person A has 10 buildings in mind that they know to be ugly. They think all of the buildings are just about as ugly as one another (this is an analogy for condemning a multitude of instances in which civilians are killed).

Then person B sits down next to them and begins extolling the beauty of one of those 10, let's call it building X. (This is an analogy for the opinion "civilians being killed by Israel in these circumstances, is justifiable").

Which building (instance of civilians being killed) will they discuss? Its obvious isn't it? They're going to discuss the controversial building, about which they have a different opinion. A conversation about one of the other buildings which both parties mutually agree is ugly, would be short, boring and rather pointless.

From person A's perspective, it is person B's inexplicable defense of building X's appearance that interests and animates them to explain and justify why the building is ugly. This alone is not evidence that they're prejudiced against some other aspect of the building, or that they are holding it to a higher standard (though these are both possible, it is also possible that they just think it's ugly for the very similar reasons they think the other 9 are). The principle reason they are driven to comment on that particular building's ugliness is because someone else is being vocal about it's beauty.

Scale up by millions of people on either side of the discussion on the righteousness of Israel's actions.

Edited

I'll just quote myself here for you in case you are willing to engage with any explanation other than antisemitism

If it were simply my opinion, then you might have a point. But it isn't. The ICJ had to order Israel to refrain from any acts that could fall under the Genocide Convention and to ensure its troops commit no genocidal acts in Gaza. The UN has documented evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, by Israeli forces.

There's no contemporary war that's seen this level of civilian deaths, particularly amongst women and children.

My bias is pro-life and anti-killing. I hope that's clear.

Israel's actions under Netanyahu have made the world less safe for Jews, stirring up antisemitism and garnering support for Hamas. Few would be criticising a proportionate response, whatever that may have looked like.

7/10 happened during a 'ceasefire' not a war.

It happened during a siege/blockade. What Hamas did on 7th October was horrific, but it didn't happen in isolation. It was part of an ongoing war.

Even on these threads where there has been a lot of anti Israel sentiment, I haven’t heard anyone go so far as to admit they support Hamas.

You are the one posting propaganda, and in fact very sadly walking quite a fine line legally given that Hamas is a proscribed terrorist organisation.

You’re sadly walking a fine line. Do you realise that the ICC have issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and 125 countries are required to arrest him if he steps foot in them .

Langdale3 · 06/04/2025 15:35

There are some horrific genocidal conflicts around the world, aside from Israel Palestine.

Events in Sudan are beyond awful, but we hear little about it in western media because Sudan is a huge country and it is dangerous for reporters to get close to the conflict. It is much easier for reporters to report on events in Gaza because it can be done from a safer country just a few miles away. I suspect racism at play too.

Err why is it the fault of Hamas that the IDF opened fire on 15 unarmed aid workers for over 5mins, then lied and covered all this up? the truth only coming out when a mb phone was found in the "grave" of one of these workers.

Dropping bombs on tented refugee camps is a decision made by the Israelis, they don't have to do this and their actions will not help release a single Israeli hostage.
In fact, its likely IDF actions have killed many more hostages than Hamas have done, the only time hostages have been released is when there has been a negotiated ceasefire.
It does appear that the safety & return of the hostages is not on Netanyahu's agenda.

A war usually has 2 sides fighting, atm, only Israel is doing the bombing etc etc
