The worst humanitarian crisis and people displacement

Sudan.

Barely on the news. Channel 4 currently is discussing the worst humanitarian crisis currently ( its NOT occurring in Gaza). People are actually REALLY starving and eating rats and leaves from the trees.

No marches, no flag waving, no slogans, no student interest, no protest on campus, no symbol wearing. We all know exactly why. No interest at all.

I know!
Last week they found a collective grave.
Even US has classified it as genocide!

We had the discussion about it and why is ignored when it is a crisis of this nature and this magnitude a little while back, on this forum.
Racism was mentioned.
Tiredness regarding endless conflicts in Africa too.
And that Sudan fate's has no impact on us. I still think the majority of it is because Africa does not have much effect on us at all.

If they at least publish it more often, people would be more aware of what is going on and at least send some aid. But... nothing. Not even crickets!
They do say that the situation is tough and they cannot get to most of it. And they have been publishing more often indeed.
Let's try to spread the news around. They really need humanitarian aid with so many millions displaced.

The footage doesn't get out. Many people don't have the technology to share what is happening there. Africa doesn't generate as much interest and so not on the general news as much. The story on channel 4 was shocking, skin and bones eating rats.

Our Government supported a genocide (which is what I actually meant but you didn't get it), what use do you think they are going to be? They have also cut foreign aid.

Our government did not support the genocide in Sudan! Where on earth did you get that. Even the US agreed that there was a genocide in Sudan.

Our government has cut foreign aid due to increasing defence budgets though.

I know they cannot share footage.
The first article I read was about a man who had driven some civilians of an ethnic minority across the border, for example.
UK is the pen holder in the UN for Sudan's war. They could mention this.
Whatever they have, just put those numbers out there. 10 million displaced people would get attention. They do not need images. Actually, I think social media has made us somehow immune to this after watching all this horror.

You're probably correct. I don't think numbers mean anything to some though. 10 MILLION DISPLACED. I think many switch off.

Possibly many can only hold one conflict in their conversation at a time and that's it. When in reality there are several dreadful conflicts at the same time. Also a huge humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

I think we can all see through threads like this at this point.

The UK government is aiding and abetting Israel as it commits genocide against the Palestinian people. That's why people are protesting in the UK. It's so disingenuous to ignore this fact.

See through threads about Sudan? Might be worth catching the Channel 4 article.

Thankfully some have kindly shared information. There can be room.for protest and compassion about Sudan as well.

This reads to me that you don't actually care about Sudan, you just posted about it to make a point about your views on the Palestine/Israel conflict which is quite tragic.

If you really cared about Sudan you could have made a thread just about Sudan.

I think the thread is about the disconnect between people's perception of the crisis in Gaza and the crisis in Sudan, so it's relevant to discuss the coverage of both.

MushMonster · 10/03/2025 21:33

For some of these wars we do not really have understanding of it. Like for me is Syria. I am at a total lost on who is liberal, who is islamist, who will be the best government for them.
I still care, but I do not really understand it or fully gather what is going on.
Sudan is beyond heartbreaking. But as usual, look at the guy on charge of one of the armies killing and starving civilians. He is chubby and all...

Sudan is an actual disaster.
Slavery is alive and well.
Hundreds of thousands starving.
Children being kidnapped and sent to militia gangs for grooming with drugs, alcohol, sexual abuse, all to become child soldiers.
Rape of women, men and children is endemic.

And yet, no one, absolutely no one, gives a damn.

It's horrific. The stories that make it out are horrendous

You literally started a thread comparing Sudan to Gaza and now you’re acting upset that people are talking about Gaza on your thread.

Of course there can be room for protest and compassion about Sudan. In fact Sudan is mentioned often at the protests as is Congo.

Do you agree that people in the UK are protesting for Palestine because the UK government is complicit in the genocide? The reason for the protests it to try to get our government to stop its blind support of Israel.

Why are people protesting in Ireland then?

Agreed, this is a really distasteful thing OP is doing.

It’s not anti Palestinian to question why some humanitarian crises receive more attention than others . It’s a perfectly valid question.

This thread is about Sudan.

The biggest humanitarian crisis that attracts little news coverage. Why no marches. Why no one appears to care. Why the silence?

Anything to add about Sudan? Otherwise perhaps another thread might suit you better?

No Sudan is what you pretended it was about

Seriously what is wrong with you. Go chat about anything you want on any other threads since Sudan is obviously of no interest at all.

Can you be clear about what the Op has done ? You’re making insinuations and it’s deeply unpleasant.
We are allowed to talk about Sudan .

This thread was and is actually about the worst humanitarian crisis going on at present. Why so little coverage, why the genocide in Sudan is largely ignored. Why some people matter more than others, is it racism? Why?

I imagine a variety of reasons. It appears a small number of usual posters cannot tolerate questions around those issues.

Thank you to the posters who shared information or suggestions why Sudan is ignored in the main.

Do you have any comments on the people starving in Sudan? Any at all?

Why did you say we all know why?
What did you mean by that?
