Conflict in the Middle East

The worst humanitarian crisis and people displacement

Sudan.

Barely on the news. Channel 4 currently is discussing the worst humanitarian crisis currently ( its NOT occurring in Gaza). People are actually REALLY starving and eating rats and leaves from the trees.

No marches, no flag waving, no slogans, no student interest, no protest on campus, no symbol wearing. We all know exactly why. No interest at all.

I give a shit about Gaza.
I also give a shit about Sudan.

It appears many don't care about anything else but Gaza. No sorrow for Sudan then, just Gaza. Interesting how concern is limited for some.

Sudan needs better PR, maybe people who SAY they care about innocents might care about them, probably not though.

It appears all children aren't equal.

Edited

Are you deliberately ignoring the fact that the UK supported Israel in doing whatever they liked to the Palestinian people, and sold them military equipment? Don't you think that might have upset people? Don't you think that's why they might have been protesting?

ssd · 10/03/2025 20:11

Believe it or not, people can have complete sympathy with the horrors happening in Sudan and Gaza simultaneously.

If you are only horrified by one of these, you need a good long look at yourself.

See above. I'm upset at the deaths of all innocents, Sudanese, Israeli and Gazan. It appears to many the biggest humanitarian crisis in Sudan is ignored though.

I think we can all see through threads like this at this point.

The UK government is aiding and abetting Israel as it commits genocide against the Palestinian people. That's why people are protesting in the UK. It's so disingenuous to ignore this fact.

This reads to me that you don't actually care about Sudan, you just posted about it to make a point about your views on the Palestine/Israel conflict which is quite tragic.

If you really cared about Sudan you could have made a thread just about Sudan.

Read the very first post.

It's about the biggest humanitarian crisis. I said no flag waving, no protests etc etc nothing.

Any thoughts on Sudan? Why do people appear unable to talk about Sudan?

So why didn't you start a thread to educate others about what's happening if you think not enough people know about it?

Why are you unable to talk about Sudan without bringing up other conflicts that has nothing to do with it?

we can all see right through your OP and your subsequent posts and it seems very disingenuous to me.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 10/03/2025 20:37

Op it really doesn’t seem like you give a shit about Sudan. Why are you ignoring people on the thread who are actually talking about Sudan and only responding to those who are arguing about Palestine? it is genuinely hard to believe you are posting in good faith.

If any other posters are interested, here is a link from Amnesty International which gives a fairly simple overview of the recent events in Sudan:

They need better PR and more phone cameras and go-pros.

Well you’re being facetious but I’ll entertain you.

Yes there is very little social media content coming from Sudan. Large parts of the country have no communications at all and it’s difficult for western media to operate there.

also it’s not a simple situation so it’s difficult to get peoples heads around it. There is no clear solution either. So no clear call to action that people can get behind.

Probably a little bit of racism there to. Africans killing Africans doesn’t easily make the news.

It’s absolutely horrific what is happening there.

You are welcome. The Save the Children website also has updated information about the conflict and is providing emergency response on the ground in Sudan. There is information here if people are interested: https://www.savethechildren.net/sudan

Thank you, MSF doctors without borders have a FAQ on their site, not only on the crisis but how they are assisting those who have been affected.

Another ridiculous post. What do you think my view is, if not utterly horrified???

To be honest I didn’t sense horror or empathy from your “jog on” quip 🤷‍♀️

MushMonster · 10/03/2025 20:54

I know!
Last week they found a collective grave.
Even US has classified it as genocide!

We had the discussion about it and why is ignored when it is a crisis of this nature and this magnitude a little while back, on this forum.
Racism was mentioned.
Tiredness regarding endless conflicts in Africa too.
And that Sudan fate's has no impact on us. I still think the majority of it is because Africa does not have much effect on us at all.

If they at least publish it more often, people would be more aware of what is going on and at least send some aid. But... nothing. Not even crickets!
They do say that the situation is tough and they cannot get to most of it. And they have been publishing more often indeed.
Let's try to spread the news around. They really need humanitarian aid with so many millions displaced.

Absolutely disgusting to use the crisis in Sudan to promote more anti Palestinian propaganda.

Agreed, this is a really distasteful thing OP is doing.

The situation in Sudan is terrible. I'd urge people to contribute however they can to support the innocent people suffering there. There are multiple charities working in Sudan, including MSF, Islamic Relief, the ICRC. If people can't donate, they can still help by raising awareness online and in real life, or offering support in other ways such as volunteering.

ImmediateReaction · 10/03/2025 21:04

However, raising awareness online and asking why it is barely discussed gets cries of 'we think it's disgusting what you are doing' comparing different crisis. Actually its not disgusting asking why this crisis is largely ignored. It is largely ignored.

Unicef is in Sudan too.

Regarding the solution, stop arming the two factions. They are wild bloodie psychopaths, both of them.
But they are taking gold out of the country and so the buyers keep sending the weapons to carry out this carnage.
No any value is put on the lives of civilians.

I think Sudan may be rescued from this by an interesting move: there are talks of a russian navy base in Sudan. That would most definitively affect us and we will be there to put order faster than the speed of light. A russian base in ME just now is not going to happen, is it?
