I don't think I have an irrational fear of Muslims, but I think I have a reasonable concern about radical Islam, does that make me Islamophobic?

Chant things against Jews? What things are these doctors and teachers saying about Jewish people? Any examples? Or do you mean chant things about the Israeli government? For the millionth time no Government in the world is above criticism.

Presumably chats like From the River to the Sea & Globalise the Intifada.

Globalise the Intifada hurts ordinary Jewish people when taken literally- which it does by some people leading to a rise in antisemitic attacks.

No, I mean walk aside people chanting things that are hostile towards Jews. There have been teachers who have been seen holding questionable placards. Doctors who show their blatant anti-semitism, who have been suspended.

Theres is a episode of Cunk on Earth where she speaks cunky on all most religions (actually funny) and when the turn comes to speak on Islam, the script gets blown away and the screen reads ‘this content is not available in your territory’ 😅

Let's remember Islam was set up as a 'correction' to Christianity and Judaism centuries after Christianity had been set up. When Jews did not play ball with this correction ultimately they were made second class citizens in the new Islamic territories. Islam in a sense was set up as a religion to oppress those that didn't accept the corrected version of ancient devious text and teaching. Mohammed' s new religion gained tract in the middle East initially as Europe was staunchly Christian with the result of numerous religious wars through our the centuries (Google the history of the South coast of Spain). Dear of the spread of Islam has been present in Europe for centuries so we have to put current concerns into context.

Islam historically and politically has a reputation for oppression (look at the religious authortiarism of states like Iran, Afghanistan etc) because ultimately Islam could only exist by persuasion of the merits of its theology but by coersion (OK Christians have tried this historically as well so there is no bias here).

The fear of Islam is to some extent fear of new waves of religious power in Europe with all that brings.....

Those are not slurs or threats towards Jews. Look up the actual meanings of those statements. Globalise the intifada means carry on the resistance/fight, like in the struggle to end apartheid in South Africa. From the river to the sea Palestine will be free means no more Israeli rule over Palestinian people.

So no chants threatening Jewish people then. It’s not “hostile” to say Palestinians should rule themselves and have their own State. Some Doctors were suspended for speaking up for Palestinians and were mostly reinstated and some are taking their Trusts to tribunal.

Islamic extremists have been carrying on the fight around the world haven't they? The the Bondi Beach shooting for example, or the Golders Green attack.

After the Golders Green attack, Keir Starmer called for police to prosecute people chanting "globalise the intifada" during demonstrations, calling it an example of "extreme racism".

Speaking at a news conference, Sir Keir said there were too many people who "don't want to see" examples of antisemitism in British society.

"Of course we protect freedom of speech and peaceful protests in this country, but if you are marching with people wearing pictures of paragliders without calling it out, you are venerating the murder of Jews," he said.

"If you stand alongside people who say globalise the intifada, you are calling for terrorism against Jews - and people who use that phrase should be prosecuted.

"It is racism, extreme racism and it has left a minority community in this country scared, intimidated, wondering if they belong."

A surgeon who worked in the NHS for 25 years has been struck off the UK medical register for making seriously offensive antisemitic comments on social media, including calling a Jewish man “vermin” and a “rodent.”

In response to a post on Facebook by “Mr A,” Manoj Sen referred to him as a “Jewish cunt” and “Jewboy” and wrote that “he belongs in the flames of a crematorium.”

Sen added, “When dealing with circumcised vermin like you, not even the strongest measures will help,” adding that he was “regretful enough rats were not liquidated at Auschwitz.”

Sky News November 25: A London-based Palestinian doctor accused of antisemitism has had her UK registration suspended for 15 months.

Dr Rahmeh Aladwan is being investigated by the General Medical Council (GMC) over a series of posts and comments across various social media platforms, a tribunal heard this week.

This had followed a number of complaints, including from the Jewish Medical Association UK and the Campaign Against Antisemitism.

On Wednesday, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) imposed a 15-month interim suspension on her registration, with a review every six months.

GMC counsel Emma Gilsenan told the tribunal that Dr Aladwan's posts allegedly included content that "justifies terrorism, denies sexual violence, includes antisemitic conspiracy theories, misuses Holocaust and Nazi imagery and expresses support for proscribed groups and terrorist acts".

Dr Aladwan allegedly referred to the Royal Free Hospital in London as a "Jewish supremacy cesspit", Ms Gilsenan added.

Israel is the promised land. It is the land that Moses or Musa (take your pick) led enslaved Isralites to as part of God's will (if you are relgous). For Islam to be seen as true the promised land would be Muslim as they believe the original Israelites including Moses were Muslim (I believe IIslam makes all the old testament prophet Muslim rerospectively...weird but there you go). Obviously world wide Muslims will not be overly happy with the promised land including Jerusalem being under Jewish rule with a majority Jewish population. The Palestinian conflict to a degree is part of religious conflict that has lasted millenia.

The state of Israel is a thorn in Islamic belief and many of the Muslim community won't be satisfied until Israel in a Muslim country. The Palestinian conflict is not just about people's or tribes but religion and how ancient prophecies can be fulfilled .....

North London GP suspended for sending Islamophobic messages to colleague

Dr Cinderella Nonoo-Cohen was suspended for four months over remarks she made following the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 2023

Did I say Islamophobic doctors don't exist? It doesn't surprise me at all that they do.

I was specifically responding to the comment by Missy that Some Doctors were suspended for speaking up for Palestinians and were mostly reinstated and some are taking their Trusts to tribunal.

By showing that also some doctors are hopelessly antisemitic.

Israel is the promised land…for Jews.

No one has to agree with something they say their God promised them 3,000 years ago.

But you do respect that people have different faiths and beliefs, which you do not have to agree and support and should be able to criticise and discuss in a respectful manner. Isn’t that what posters are advocating on this thread, that you should be able to criticise and dissect other religions. The Jewish belief in the promised land is no different to that.

mids2019 · 03/07/2026 07:05

I wonder if those in love with this phrase Idlamophobia would include making the comment 'Israel belongs to the jews' as Islamophobic? There probably some that would this an 'Islamophobic' comment as it undermines some of Islamic theology.

In much the same way will asking people to remove their Gaza badges in public workspaces be viewed as Islamophobic as to some of us a bid given right to show support for the Palestinians. The dangers of an over reach of the term Islamophobia.

We have race hatred laws already that do the job by the way......

I am not religious particularly so to me the debate is irrational about God promising land to different people however if you are of a faith then these texts are important and if you honestly believe they portray the true will of God and his aims for the world then the texts are important. Jerusalem for instance is an incredibly important city in both the Jewish and Islamic faith.

The point being the hatred for Jews being in the 'promised land' is not just a tribal conflict but one with deep religious roots which can't be easily easily erased.

In the UK at least, it seems to me that there is an undeniably Islamophobic rhetoric conflating extremists with Islam as a faith.

At the same time, there is a rhetorical push to conflate the extreme ethnic nationalistic government of Israel with Judaism, which is undeniably feeding anti semitism.

Its a difficult path OP, but recognising bad actors in terms of realising that there are those who seek to sow division, and keeping faith in the knowledge that the majority in the UK want peace from both sides and that the hate fuelled is not based in hate from either UK Jews or Muslims is worth remembering.

Fifiworks · 05/07/2026 01:15

@Ellen2shoes excellently put. Couldn’t agree more.
