Did anyone see this last night? Heartbreaking and enraging in equal measure.

I meant I found your responses on the the thread hilarious.
Not the topic - which is tragic and heartbreaking
Apologies if I wasn’t clear .

Increadibly disrespectful, you may not agree with her opinions but to call it hilarious with this subject matter is disgusting.

Well done to the BBC for explaining the history of the attempts to establish two states. You can see why the US government feels they will never persuade Palestinians to accept Israel. Hence Trump's shocking statements about moving out the Gazans.
Nothing can happen until Hamas falls.

So the BBC are a trustworthy source again?
Good to know. It changes like the wind here!

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 22:30

@ByOliveSheep
This thread is about the BBC documentary, Children of Gaza which has been removed due to Hamas interference.
This thread is not about the conflict. There are other threads about that.
Watch the current BBC three part documentary to put in context the events leading to October 7th. It is illuminating and depressing.
Increasingly I think other Arab countries, not Iran, need to step in and deal with Hamas. There needs to be proper grown up negotiations with proper grown up people. Not young men dressed in balaclavas and firing guns and pretending to be in a computer game.

There’s quite a lot on here I’ve found disgusting. In particular the fact that that poster said the atrocities of October 7th had been “debunked “
Now that really WAS disgusting.

My remark was related to his/ her tendency to reply with comments like “I’m much more reliable than you” which I found ridiculously childish.

Wildflowers99 · 24/02/2025 22:31

I watched ‘Born in Gaza’ on Netflix a while ago, which was heartbreaking but very well done I thought.

Anything but genocide.

Israel claims to have the most advanced military tech in the world yet somehow managed to stuff up what should have been for them a simple locate and retrieve operation.

Nothing jutifies genocide. Nothing.

I know you wouldn’t really be able to say, but are you ex-special forces? I only ask because that is some very insightful military strategising.

I also had my suspicions after reading that post.

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 22:40

My book group read Apeirogon
It is a non fiction book about Israel, Palestine and shared grief, nominated for the 2020 Booker Prize. It looks at the experience of two fathers, one Israeli and one Palestinian who both lost daughters in the conflict.
Both men are good men, family men who have much in common. They just want peace. A two state system run by grown ups, women and men. Not young men wielding guns.
It is a wonderful book. They should put these two fathers in charge of rebuilding Gaza.

You have to be joking!! A 'simple retrieve and locate' operation was insightful military strategising?!

It’s frightening how many posters on here will not denounce Hamas ..
And yet they claim to care about Palestinians

Please do stop that sort of allegation.

No one supports Hamas. I certainly don’t but I find Netanyahu and his supporters as detestable, especially given the power they have.

People need to start denouncing Netanyahu who encouraged Hamas in order to prevent a two state solution.

And denounce him for not prioritising releasing hostages so as to get on with killiling so many Palestinian civilians in Gaza over the last year and a half, ( lots as one poster pointed out with AI systems that are crude) as well as destroying Gaza more or less wantonly, which may have the unwanted effect of leading Palestinians to feel Hamas seem necessary for their protection.

Netanyahu is now systematically evacuating and destroying the West Bank. What will that bring?

Interesting isn't it.

The new documentary is produced by Norma Percy. The last documentary she produced on the conflict sparked complaints.

I don’t think you support Hamas in any way.
Unfortunately there have been quite a few posters in the last few days ( even on threads about the Bibas family) who have continually tried to find justification for Hamas / or deflected away from the issue.
I’ve condemned Netanyahu. I do not support him at all. I know there are many posters who have unequivocally condemned Hamas while still supporting Palestinian. But It is clear there is a minority who won’t accept the role Hamas has played in causing suffering for Palestinians.
I’ve seen people on the marches with similar blindness about the evil of Hamas.
So I stand by what I said . But it’s definitely not directed at you.

I don’t recall you ever saying anything like that about Hamas.

The problem is Israel are a Democratic country who's leader is a war criminal, and will go down in history as one, of course Hamas have brought shame on Gaza but we all know that don't we

Nobody on this thread has said they support Hamas despite a number of posters trying to twist people's words and claim they do.

Yes people seem to forget Netanyahu actively supported Hamas when it suited him, it's obvious he cares little about his own people never mind anyone else

@BelleHathor and @AnxiousRose

You both sound so negative and dismissive. I suggest you read Apeirogon. It is a wonderful book and reflects the experiences of a Palestinian and Israeli and who are clearly good people. Caring, family men who are brave enough to reach out to each other and try to work at what they have in common.
They are ordinary people that we can all identify with. I can't get over the terrifying sight of young angry men dressed in balaclavas and wielding guns.
Gaza needs ordinary, well meaning good people to take charge and rebuild Gaza. Ban guns, ban balaclavas and believe in the future

Thanks for the book recommendation.

That would be great in Gaza.
We would also need to see an end to the Israeli occupation, violence against Palestianians, restrictions on movement and imprisonment of thousands.

Unfortunately the horrific Oct 7 attacks and Israels dispropriate response have meant that peace here seems further away than ever.
