Did anyone see this last night? Heartbreaking and enraging in equal measure.

I am much more reliable than you

This thread would be hilarious if the topic wasn’t so tragic

It shows the disaster that is having the terrorist organisation Hamas, running Gaza.
If only Gaza had a legitimate Palestinian Authority which recognised the existence of Israel, peace would become a possibility.

Everexpanding · 24/02/2025 21:48

Yes - It would be the best outcome for the next generation. If Hamas and Netanyahu were gone maybe the moderate peacemakers in both sides could be finally heard.

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 21:49

Back in 2005 there were real hopes of a two state solution, free democratic elections. Hamas turned on and fought any Palestinians standing against them. They took Palestine by force.

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 21:51

The Israeli parliament in 2005 tried so hard to support a legitimate Palestinian state. Hamas would never allow it. They took control by fear and force.

A tragedy for Palestinians. Especially for the current generation of children .

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 21:56

If you watch, you see the effort Israel, the USA and surrounding Arab countries, went to try and establish a legitimate Palestinian state which recognised Israel. Israel conceded in so many areas but Hamas never allowed it to happen.

Over half the population don’t want that to happen.

You can’t force your ideals on them.

I will definitely watch on catch up - thank you

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 22:01

There were even plans for a tunnel between the West Bank and Gaza to unite the two Palestinian territories .
The Palestinians would not accept it.

You have to have hope.
Most people want a future for their children.
With good leadership change is possible- as long as people can see the future offers something better for their children.
I know there are massive challenges.

And a lot of help from Netanyahu.

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 22:04

All of the US presidents have tried so hard for a peace deal. All of the sweeteners offered have made no difference. Hamas rules and it does not want peace. It is frightening to watch.

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 22:08

Netanyahu was the result of the failure to make any progress with the Palestinians for a two state system. There is no way that Gazan Palestinians will ever agree to this.

It’s frightening how many posters on here will not denounce Hamas ..
And yet they claim to care about Palestinians

DelaneysOnTheWineAgain · 24/02/2025 22:11

The 2005 elections were fraught with problems with Israel attempting to stop Palestinians in Jerusalem and Gaza voting and pushing an alternative candidate more acceptable to them.

Hamas have recently said they will accept an alternative Palestinian Governing power in Gaza as a means to garner an end to the war.
This could be a way forward

Although none of this has anything to do with the thread.

Hitherzither · 24/02/2025 22:13

Well done to the BBC for explaining the history of the attempts to establish two states. You can see why the US government feels they will never persuade Palestinians to accept Israel. Hence Trump's shocking statements about moving out the Gazans.
Nothing can happen until Hamas falls.

There's nothing hilarious about it.

Genocide is wrong.

Nothing justifies it.

The fact that that is such a controversial take (here) is surreal.

Luckily, in the real world, it's different.

Not the topic - which is tragic and heartbreaking
Apologies if I wasn’t clear .

This.

For the love of God, Palestinians do not want a Western style democracy. They may not be too sold on Hamas at the moment but that’s not because they’re committed to living in peace with their Israeli neighbours - over half of Palestinians ultimately want Israel ‘dissolved’ and to rejoin the states as 1 country under hardline Islamic law.

All this assuming that they think like Westerners and therefore they must want love’n’peace has to stop. They want a theocracy, and that means religion takes precedence over law and notions of peace/fairness - there is no ‘democracy’ to be had as they have their ultimate rule book and there will be no deviating from it.

The above isn’t a value judgement, it makes perfect sense that people adopt the mindset of their own culture. But the naivety, or wishful thinking, on here is tiresome.
