Ffs. What is the actual point of this post? No one has said any of those things here.

If you've nothing relevant to say do feel free to go elsewhere.

Yes @LetThereBeLove said exactly that

If they have no charges against them what would you call them?

Well, I'd call the convicted ones by their crimes. Murderers. Terrorists. I'd call the ones not yet charged with crimes either prisoners of war, suspects, or unlawfully detained. Can you spell any of these words? If youre not sure of them you could look them up in a dictionary. Google, even. I'd certainly look into each individual before calling them anything because words matter.

They are not hostages.

Hamas took hostages.

Honestly Liv I really don't think you should post without thinking because you're getting quite a lot wrong.

@MissyB1 I think the conditions of release of Palestinian detainees are very harsh. Waiting families are tear-gassed and they are threatened not to celebrate the release. Some of the young boys released were shockingly thin, heads shaved and looked very traumatised. According to Amnesty many will have been tortured and sexually violated. Indeed, the rape of a detainee was captured on CCTV, and the right to do so publicly argued in Israel. The three male hostages do indeed look thin and traumatised. It is terrible to think how they must have been treated. I do not think Hamas would treat hostages any better than Israeli prisons treat detainees. It may even be worse, as they are so isolated from any international standards relating to human rights. Unfortunately, the treatment of each other has become truly inhumane.

"It may have been worse"? None so blind as the wilfully blind.

DoubleShotEspresso · 08/02/2025 16:15

Just saw the disgraceful footage of these poor men esrlier. Absolutely heartbreaking for their families.

I have thought from day 1 of the agreement tgat these handovers should not be broadcast. Giving Hamas further oxygen for their evil on global rollong news should be banned.

I also fail to understand how on earth 3 x hostages ever is equitable with 180 x prisoners. This is just sickening.

wordsworthundercover · 08/02/2025 16:15

@ViolaPlains Let us hope not.

You can call them whatever you wish but they are not hostages. A hostage is person(s) taken by force and held by another person, organisation etc as a security, pledge for ransom, exchange of prisoners, or other demands.

Whatever you want to call them, they've obviously been treated the same way as the Israeli hostages..

No they aren't. They are kept in prison, not in underground tunnels without access to other people at all as some of the released hostages have told us.

The state of the hostages is truly shocking. It’s so sad to think what they may have gone through.
However, and with no disrespect, no one can be surprised that a terrorist group took hostages and didn’t treat them well. Especially if there circumstances are further complicated by in discriminate bombing and little access to regular food etc. The fact that Palestinian detainees/prisoners of war are presenting in a similar condition is shocking. Given that Israel is not a terrorist group, I do expect more from them.

The whole situation is such a horrifying mess and I’m not convinced that Trump is in anyway going to make this better.

This 100%.

These images are heartbreaking. At the same time, I thought it was common knowledge that everyone in Gaza is suffering from malnutrition if not starvation and illnesses related to this as well as the absence of a health care system.l and exposure to constant danger to life. It was pointed out many times that the conditions being visited upon the people of Gaza by the Israeli government would also be endured by the hostages but this was not responded to appropriately.

I have no idea how anyone of any nationality could expect better a state of health for people who have spent over a year in Gaza, being aware that huge numbers of the population there are dead, displaced, starving and ill as a direct result of Israel's decision to raze homes, block aid and cut off crucial aid. The selective outrage is bewildering.

I agree sadly, I think Trump can only make it worst.

Do explain how the Hamas terrorists look in remarkable health then?

Ilovemytulips · 08/02/2025 16:30

This sums up the the reality on both sides quite well.

As both Yoav Gallant (former defence minister) and Yair Lapid (opposition leader) have tweeted, it is no surprise that some of the hostages are in this state.
They have been kept in tunnels and above ground, constantly moved during heavy fighting, and presumably had little access to food, as many Gazans faced during the months of war.

Many of the Palestinian prisoners are also returning home looking painfully thin and with stories of being beaten in detention.
One prisoner had to be carried off the Red Cross bus by a medic from the Palestinian Red Crescent earlier today.
Israel too is using release day for its own propaganda purposes. The Palestinian prisoners released today say they were forced to watch a video of the destruction of Gaza before they were freed.

Liv999 · 08/02/2025 16:31

@LetThereBeLove Of course they are, many needed treatment in hospital when released, they were fed as little as possible, some raped and sexually assaulted, shocking stuff really, no better than Hamas

Ilovemytulips · 08/02/2025 16:34

If anything, today showed that not a single hostage can be left behind and there needs to be some sort of escalation so the rest are not waiting for long periods in unsafe and inhumane conditions.
It also shows that Israel really need to do something about the way it treats prisoners too, esp when many are being detained without any charges.

Ilovemytulips · 08/02/2025 16:35

Israel needs to escalate with the mediators that Hamas must stop the humiliating hostage parades before their release.

dairydebris · 08/02/2025 16:37

The derail of this thread has been an utter disgrace. From blaming Israel for the mistreatment of hostages, to accusing Israel of taking hostages, infantilizing of Hamas ( who can only really be expected to behave like evil terrorists because they are evil terrorists ) to refusing to name innocent woman and children kidnapped in peacetime, I'm honestly disgusted with it.
Sorry I don't know how to tag people but OP LetThereBeLove I'm sorry it went this way.

Bring the rest of them home. Now.

Edited

But they are not, and never were, hostages. Many of them are murderous terrorists who are now free to murder again. You cannot and should not compare them to the Israelis and other nationalities who were taken from Israel by force into Gaza on 7 October 2023. Shame on you.

It is truly disheartening that solidarity with these innocent Israeli hostages and their families has been so lacking for the past 16 months.

Response to their plight has been shockingly inadequate. But the criticism of Israel is overwhelming. Just read the comments posted today. Incredulous!

wordsworthundercover · 08/02/2025 16:38

@LetThereBeLove I think the detainees are often kept in cages, or tied in stress positions to fences. The children are not allowed to see their families, and are also kept in isolation. It is practice to keep hoods over their heads and have hands and feet tied, so I doubt they can communicate. I expect you saw the footage from Sde Teimain, which clearly shows the conditions are shocking and the abuse that occurs. It is not a contest of which group is treated worse, and I think the hostages have endured cruelty and are innocent victims. It is really, to me, more of a question of how things have come to this and how people can be helped to heal.

@LetThereBeLove so it's OK to rape and starve them then? Really disgusting comment, also many of them are NOT murderous terrorists, many are being detained for no reason

Aid has been getting into Gaza in extremely small quantities and there has been international outrage about it. That's my last comment to you, since you won't hear.

But thats not what you said. You said Israel wouldn't allow ANY in.
