Are we surprised? I mean this happened multiple times last time. I do wonder if the media will report.

IDF could do ANYTHING, shoot ANYONE and the same people will pop up on here and say it’s fake news…. No wonder they’ve got away with a genocide

Please do not generalise and say that I or anyone else on this thread has implied it is fake news. News organisations have struggled to report accurately on the Israel-Gaza war. The conflict presents many challenges.

It can take experts hours and even days to verify pictures and videos with certainty. It's essential to be aware of the different ways misinformation is spread.

To mislead and claim the ceasefire had been broken is neither accurate, helpful or responsible.

If you don't understand the difference between false content, misleading content, and the sources of the content, read this.

Anyone responding to a child being shot, regardless of who or where the child is, with a laughing emoji is behaving in a completely unacceptable way.

There's no misinterpreting anything. It's disgusting behaviour.

craigth162 · 21/01/2025 13:42

Israel is a disgrace. Sadly I think they will continue with acts like this.

NoisyBear · 21/01/2025 13:21

It's in news outlets that Israel have continued shooting despite the ceasefire.

Perhaps direct your ire at Israel that at this this moment in time when so many people on both sides of the conflict have suffered unimaginable pain they continue shooting at people who thought they were free to start collecting their dead relatives and seeing if they have a home to go back to.

Have I implied it is fake news? No, I haven't.

I prefer to watch and listen to verified news, whether Israeli or Palestinian sources report it.

I will not apologise for wanting to review objective and unbiased news.

That is your account of the comment but not Pebblesonthebeach40's account of her comment.

An accurate contribution. In relation to this particular situation, the war, Israel have behaved disgracefully and continue to behave disgracefully. While the world watches with continued reticence to call them out.

Flustration · 21/01/2025 14:00

Oh no, please don't let it be true. Al Jazeera are still reporting the Gaza ceasefire is holding.

This does feel like the last chance for peace.

OK you do that. You can wait for weeks to comment on stories in the mainstream news if you like but it's odd to expect everyone else to and berating them for not doing so.

And yes, I will agree that news outlets have struggled to report on the full horrors of what has happened given Israels killing of journalists and banning of International journalists. It's a shame that Israel have tried to enforce a media blackout and continues to impede independent investigations.

Did they post a laughing emoji?

Is the thread about a video of a child being shot?

They can say what they like about what they meant, it doesn't change the words and emoji they actually used.

Pebblesonthebeach40 · 21/01/2025 14:17

GentleScroller · 21/01/2025 13:12

I hope you shared this video because of its shocking content and that it was not a deliberate attempt to spread disinformation.

No comments have been issued from Gaza authorities, ceasefire mediators in Egypt, Qatar and the US, or Israeli officials.

So, your statement that Israel has broken the ceasefire is mendacious.

To all the other respondents on this post, you have taken it as a fact that the IDF shot this child without questioning the source or verifying the video.

WhatTheKey and GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut proceeded to berate a reply from Pebblesonthebeach40. They accused her of showing no empathy regarding the death of a child, which was not the case and a misunderstanding of her initial comment.

Can you show some constraints and stop using MN as your social media platform to spread propaganda. It is offensive, inappropriate, and insensitive at this moment in time when so many people on both sides of the conflict have suffered unimaginable pain.

Thank you.

It feels deliberate. Any question of source thst won't open and boom. I see lots came back to these threads myself included after the great ceasefire announcement. I wonder how long people will attempt to interact.

I have to wonder what reaction you expected to your laughing post? Did you think people were going to say hahaha you're right that could have been any one of the 100s or 1000s of times Israel have shot Palestinian children? No matter how you look at it it's not really a laughing a matter is it. On reflection do you think you could have phrased it better and perhaps asked for new article or something to back up the story?

Again for the hard of reading. I didn't.

It didn't say a child was shot In the opening post that I REPLIED TO. It was a random Instagram post that wouldn't open posted as proof of a broken ceasefire. Rushing in to almost joyfully announce a supposed broken ceasefire with a random Instagram post that came up as broken. I've explained that a lot of times but now I really don't care to explain again. An anon forum of clambering to deliberately not read a reply. Carry on 🙄 frankly boring now. Better things to do than this nonsense

Wow. I didn't realise comments and opinions were getting marked or graded. I apologise that my comment is not good enough for you and wont respond again.

NoisyBear · 21/01/2025 14:42

So your laughing was a mistake that you are apologising for because you didn't read the full thread, all of 5 posts including the op?

The only person that seemed joyful to me was the one posting laughing emojis.

I understand international reporters are not allowed to report from the ground, but you can’t deny that misinformation is constantly posted on social media and filtered through public discourse.

Documenting events through a digital trace using open-source investigation techniques is very easy. Why? Because it is the correct way to analyse visual evidence forensically, as reported by civilians. But at the same time, this digital data must be fact-checked.

Regurgitating and circulating unverified reports regarding one of the most sensitive conflicts is reckless, especially at this time. Please don't take my word for it. Ask a journalist.

Question: What's the desired outcome of your actions?

Anyone who shares data on social media should ensure what they present is correct ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’.

People’s willingness to believe what they read or see because of preconceived notions has been far too prevalent in this conflict.

Taking what we see at face value is dangerous. Sometimes, we need to step back and check our own biases.

EasterIssland · 21/01/2025 17:08

not sure what idf are trying to achieve. A child was killed as well in West Bank and today 8 people have been killed. I do hope for the sake of the Palestinians and Israeli citizens that the ceasefire is permanent. Tho I’ve 0 hope.

i bet when Hamas fires rockets at Israel(hopefully not but I’ve 0 hope about this as well) and media will go nuts and say “see we couldn’t trust them”. Whilst in the meantime idf has been killing Palestinians

I don't agree really. You are getting into the realms of conspiracy theories when you don't believe what is reported in several mainstream newspapers.

SharonEllis · 21/01/2025 18:03

Its not up to randoms on the internet to decide that a ceasefire has been broken. Thats not how it works. This ceasefire, like most ceasefires is a formal agreement, with terms agreed by both parties. Noone but the signatories to the deal can decide that the ceasefire is broken.

I don't agree really. You are getting into the realms of conspiracy theories when you don't believe what is reported in several mainstream newspapers.

A belief is based on what you have been told and what you personally hold as true. A belief doesn’t need to be supported with factual evidence for it to exist. Your beliefs are your own.

You can attempt to influence, but I ultimately have the choice to follow.

I like to do my own research on social media and do some fact-checking.

Conspiracy theories, on the other hand, are ‘the belief that some secret but influential organisation is responsible for an event or phenomenon’.

If I believed that, I would have made that statement. I did not make that statement, so that isn’t my belief but your interpretation of what I said.

I don’t want to change your viewpoint.

Like I said you do you. If you want to spend your time 'researching' stories that are featured in multiple respected newspapers on social media the home of fake news then that's just great. Berating others for not doing the same as you, as you did earlier, is off though imo.

SharonEllis · 21/01/2025 20:32

@NoisyBear No mainstream media or 'respectable newspapers,' that I can see are reporting that Israel has broken the ceasefire.

They are reporting that Israel killed a child after the ceasefire. The fact that Israel can carry on killing children with no repercussions even after the ceasefire I think leaves questions to be answered.

How can Palestinians feel safe if 'acting suspicious' is enough to get you killed on the spot? What does that look like, 'acting suspicious'? Executing traumatised children at a time they are supposed to feel safe isn't right and people need to speak up and hold Israel to account so maybe in future they will do better.

Or we could all just brush it under the mountain of a carpet with everything else until next time.

You are failing to grasp that a ceasefire is an agreement between the two warring parties. Its not up to anyone else & you can't just make it so because you want yet another go at Israel.
