After all the news this week regarding IDF threatening peacekeepers in Lebanon this is news now.

from bbc

Two UN peacekeepers injured after Israeli tank fires at watchtowerpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time
12:50 BSTBREAKING
Two UN peacekeepers have been injured after an Israeli tank fired towards a watchtower at a UN base in southern Lebanon, the UN says.
According to a statement by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the observation tower at its headquarters in Naqoura was directly hit, causing the peacekeepers to fall.
"The injuries are fortunately, this time, not serious, but they remain in hospital," the UN says.
It adds that Israeli soldiers also fired at a UN base in Ras Naqoura, "hitting the entrance to the bunker where peacekeepers were sheltering, and damaging vehicles and a communications system".
There's more in their statement which we'll bring you shortly.
UNIFIL is a UN peacekeeping mission created in 1978. It monitors hostilities and helps to ensure humanitarian access to civilians.

@mouthpipette source for what? You've said yourself that Hezbollah attacked Israel on October 8th. Israel bombed Gaza starting on October 13th and their ground offensive started on the 27th of October. Hezbollah attacked Israel before they'd done anything to Gaza

@PollyPaintsFlowers
My apologies, I misread and didn't think properly.
I thought you were claiming that Hezbollah fired into Israel 3 weeks before The Hamas attack of Oct 7th, which of course they didn't. Sorry.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 12/10/2024 19:52

My efforts 😂

If you scroll back you'll see I said that was wrong

You lie and lie and lie! Why? Do you think we don't have Internet access? Israel started their airstrikes on the same Saturday in Gaza. And I can back that up with clear sources.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 12/10/2024 19:53

@mouthpipette it's fine. I misread stuff all the time 🫣

Israel called up army reservists and launched a wave of airstrikes on the tiny strip, which is home to 2.3 million people. Netanyahu warned Palestinians in Gaza to “get out of there now” as he vowed to reduce Hamas hideouts to “rubble”, but there is nowhere for those in the blockaded territory to escape to.
Warplanes targeted several buildings in the centre of Gaza City, including Palestine Tower, an 11-storey building that houses Hamas radio stations.

Video recorded in Gaza showed a mosque destroyed in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, and several large buildings in Gaza City in ruins.
Palestinians in Gaza shared images of text messages sent by the Israeli military to people in the Beit Hanoun area in the north of the strip that ordered them to leave their homes before the airstrikes.

@ScrollingLeaves I found it easily enough when I googled news sites to get the exact dates, what can't you find?

Thanks, please would you link ?
I can only find that Hezbollah began firing rockets 8 Oct 2023.

EasterIssland · 12/10/2024 19:51

were the peacekeepers that have been injured (& the topic of this thread despite all your efforts to derail it) to be hamas or hezbollah members?

Neither, the UNIFIL sites were simply "in the way" of the IDF going into Lebanon.

Though the IDF may also have been worried that Hezbollah may want to take up defensive positions close to these sites, thus making it harder for the IDF to destroy them without also damaging UNIFIL posts. The latter would not look particularly good in the eyes of the world. So, better to get UNIFIL to move out and leave Israel with a "clear board".

@PollyPaintsFlowers another one. Oct 8th as it says was one of the deadliest days for Gazans in 15 years. Yet you insist on lying that Israel did nothing for three weeks. You are either misinformed or deliberately spreading false information. Either way i would advise posters to take your posts with a pinch of salt.

Is that all your assumptions or have you evidence for any of it? The only combatants to get close to the UNIFIL bases putting them at risk were the IDF. Not helpful to start making up scenarios

JaneJeffer · 12/10/2024 20:16

None of their actions look good in the eyes of the world so why would they suddenly care about that?

Does anyone else know if this is true?

They are assumptions, though I think they are credible. Why else would Israel want the posts vacated ?

That as well, of course.

EasterIssland · 12/10/2024 20:26

Let’s not forget that they’ve killed hundreds of UN members in Gaza. The main difference is that this were mostly Palestinians. Whilst UNIFIL are Indonesian , Sri Lanka and unsure the one from today … so the world is condemning more these actions.

And may I ask why, if people think it is wrong to attack peacekeepers, people keep trying to deflect away from the fact that peacekeepers were attacked?

Yes like I've said before they seem to forget how many nations are involved in UNIFIL.

Good to see such a strong statement from 34 diverse nations who will not be intimidated

EasterIssland · 12/10/2024 21:49

Just seen an update that it’s 40 countries (in total unifil is 50 )
