Lebanon has zero air defences. There is no operational need for Israel to bomb at 4am. The only reason they bomb in the middle of the night is to maximise civilian casualties and especially to kill as many children as possible, who would mostly be outside in waking hours.

Absolutely, the IDF act with impunity. They enact vengeance on civilians for the their battlefield loses. Former Swiss intelligence agent Colonel Jacques Baud recently said in an interview that "they fight with no honour" and that's shown to the world daily.

The rumours from Lebanon yesterday are that after intense battles Hezbollah were close to capturing some IDF soldiers, so Israel applied the Hannibal Directive killing their own soldiers instead of letting them be captured.

BM the Twitter poster is an Israeli who lives in Israel and tweets about what is being said in the Israeli Press.

Ali Mortada from the linked video is a Lebanese journalist who lives in South Lebanon and reports daily on the situation.

As above, considering that it took nearly a year for Israeli papers to report on the Hannibal Directive being implemented on October 7th I expect there won't be any "official" reports for while.

Hostages are also a bad memory for the IDF as they previously swapped a single IDF soldier for 1000 fighters.

No, where did you see that?

Thank you for sharing that news about the sanction on Haaretz @PeasfullPerson
I have found it.

Israeli Government Imposes Sanctions on Haaretz, Cuts All Ties and Pulls Advertising

The resolution approved on Sunday did not appear on the government's agenda published ahead of the weekly cabinet meeting, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved it without it undergoing the customary legal review.

Quote from Haaretz in The Guardian

“Like his friends Putin, Erdoğan, and Orbán, Netanyahu is trying to silence a critical, independent newspaper. Haaretz will not balk and will not morph into a government pamphlet that publishes messages approved by the government and its leader,” the [Haaretz] statement said.

Wow! Bold move for "the only democracy in the Middle East".

EasterIssland · 25/11/2024 07:23

Not surprised. They’re against anything that doesn’t approve their actions and haaretz has been quite critical

Nothing says "Democracy" quite like seeking to silence all voices disagreeing with the government.

An Israeli strike that killed three journalists and wounded others in Lebanon on October 25 was most likely a deliberate attack on civilians and an apparent war crime, Human Rights Watch said, adding that the attack used a bomb equipped with a U.S.-produced Joint Direct Attack Munition guidance kit. There was no immediate comment from the IDF on the report. The group said the U.S. government should suspend weapons transfers to Israel because of the military's repeated "unlawful attacks on civilians, for which U.S. officials may be complicit in war crimes."

Lebanon's Health Minister Firass Abiad said that 11 other journalists have been killed and eight wounded since the October 25 strike. The journalists killed in the October 25 strike were camera operator Ghassan Najjar and broadcast technician Mohammed Rida of the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen, and camera operator Wissam Qassim, who worked for Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV.

What are the chances it was chance?

Quite.

Hamas have also made it clear that they would not release the hostages until the IDF withdrew from Gaza. While it's doubtful whether they had either the intention or the capacity to fulfill that or not is doubtful. Either way one can infer that the well-being of the hostages is not Israel's primary concern.

He names them as thermobaric vacuum bombs.

He names them as thermobaric vacuum bombs.

Did he. The way he presents is very odd. Lots of assumptions with no evidence presented. Reminds me of the YouTubers with the "there might be, is it, it could be, apparently, maybe, who knows, some say, but Idont know anyway, claims. Odd.

Anyway I'd wait for a better source than him on if they are used and when. For clarity a bit of information:

"International law does not prohibit the use of thermobaric munitions, fuel-air explosive devices, or vacuum bombs against military targets. As of March 2024, all past attempts to regulate or restrict thermobaric weapons have failed.
According to some scholars, thermobaric weapons are not intrinsically indiscriminate by nature, as they are often engineered for precision targeting capabilities. This precision aspect serves to provide humanitarian advantages by potentially minimizing collateral damage and also lessens the amount of munitions needed to effectively engage with the chosen military goals".
