Just this is really ...how did they do it? Was this the secret service on steroids?

How exactly was this a targeted attack?
These pagers were literally let loose, thousands of them, into the country. Some even travelled to Syria.
They exploded at a time of day when people typically mingle, so it’s no surprise that many of the victims were children.
they also made a beeping sound before exploding, I guess to ensure that people would reach for them and bring them close to their faces, which is why the health system in Lebanon is currently completely overwhelmed treating people for face injuries and lost eyes.
It’s not a targeted attack, it’s actually very barbaric and shows a total disregard for ethics and human life.

Some travelled to Syria? What on their own or were they attached to a terrorist? Of course it was targeted and only the terrorists would have had the devices. The explosions were very small so I doubt any innocent bystanders were hurt. Where have you seen the injured children? All news films I have seen are of injured men.

AhaHa · 18/09/2024 09:19

Several of the victims who died were children. It has been widely reported, including on the BBC

AhaHa · 18/09/2024 09:20

And the pagers exploded all over the place, in supermarkets, shops. Not just in isolated terror cells where terrorists hide all day 😂.

here some words from BBC:

Author and former BBC journalist Kim Ghattas was on her way home from a funeral in Beirut yesterday when the explosions started to happen.
She describes to BBC Radio 4's Todayprogramme that she felt "emotion after emotion and trauma after trauma".
"It was really a scene of chaos across the city because people didn't instantly understand what was happening," Ghattas adds.
"We first thought it was one large explosion in the south of Beirut, it then became clear there were simultaneous small explosions everywhere.
"Then we started seeing CCTV from inside shops and supermarkets of these small explosions targeting people doing their groceries or paying at the checkout.
"Then for hours on end [we heard] the wail of sirens. The internal security forces were asking people to get off the streets because traffic was overwhelming the city.
"It was really a national traumatic event," Ghattas tells the programme.

If anyone organising this actually cared about not harming innocents, the pagers would have gone off in the evening.
The lack of regard for innocent humans and particularly children in this conflict is just disgusting.

ExquisiteEmelda · 18/09/2024 09:24

From the BBC:
Nine people, including a child, have been killed after handheld pagers used by members of the armed group Hezbollah to communicate exploded across Lebanon, the country’s health minister says.
Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon was among 2,800 other people who were wounded by the simultaneous blasts in Beirut and several other regions.
Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, said the pagers belonged “to employees of various Hezbollah units and institutions” and confirmed the deaths of eight fighters.

So no, several of the victims who died are not children. One child whose father was a terrorist died and that’s entirely his fault.

Google the law of armed conflict. That should help you understand.

No need to Google it - I've laid it out quite clearly in one of my previous posts a couple of pages go - nothing illegal about what Israel has done.

The ethics of a targeted attack on terrorist militants who are sending rockets into their country? What would that mean for your safety going forward?

What will it mean for the safety of Israelis ?

are you also happy that in the future a government that has got problems with a terrorist group from country uses the same but with I.e mobile phones ? And it decided to blast them at some point injuring and killing innocent people as well? Or is this only ok if the people targeted are Lebanese and Palestinian?

amigafan2003 · 18/09/2024 09:28

AhaHa · 18/09/2024 09:01

Isn’t it strange that nobody in the international community has condemned this so far?
Seems this attack was conceived to terrorise, wound, maim indiscriminately; at a time of day where children, families, innocent bystanders are all going about their business.
Surely this is a textbook definition of terrorist attack?
Why are rules on how to wage war so consistently ignored without any consequence or condemnation?

But it wasn't an indiscriminate attack.

EasterIssland · 18/09/2024 09:28

JaneDoeHere · 18/09/2024 09:17

have you seen the explosions? They are tiny. They weee designed to target the individual, which they did.

If they are tiny then why have people been killed (some of them children) and why are there so many injured?

Many of the thousands of victims were children. Just because only one of them has died so far, an 8 year old girl, doesn’t make the attacks ok.

"These pagers were literally let loose, thousands of them, into the country. Some even travelled to Syria."

Only terrorists were using these pagers - that was the whole point of infiltrating Hezbollah's supply chain and ofc some traveled to Syria - Hezbollah operate within Syria.

"They exploded at a time of day when people typically mingle, so it’s no surprise that many of the victims were children."

There weren't 'many' child victims. The Devices were rigged with 20g of explosives - this meant that the primary target was the device holder and there was minimal risk to bystanders.

"treating people for face injuries and lost eyes."

Yeah, I'm not going to cry over a terrorist losing an eye.

Lol. Perhaps you know the staff from the hospitals who have been overwhelmed with wounded?

1dayatatime · 18/09/2024 09:36

"If they are tiny then why have people been killed (some of them children) and why are there so many injured"

Mainly because a lot of the pagers were carried in front trouser pockets (which has caused severe injuries to genitalia) or jacket pockets (chest injuries).

Those with pagers in bags and backpacks seem to have largely escaped injuries.

Yes, one child died. How sad that you seem to think that’s ok.

If the Lebanese and Palestinian people don't like it then they are more than welcome to oust Hamas and Hezbollah.

I suspect though that quite are few support both those terrorist organisations so they have to deal with the consequences.

Whilst regrettable, it's acceptable when considering the military benefits of yesterdays action.

It very sad and of course not the poor girl’s fault. If only her father hadn’t brought his work home with him.

And yes one child so stop lying saying it was many children.

Would you be happy for Israelis to pay for the decisions their government is taking because they voted them in?

By this logic, then all Israelis should also be held responsible for the illegal actions of Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
BUT, in my view, just because settlers in the West Bank illegally target and harm Palestinians, DOES NOT and WILL NEVER justify acts of terror against innocent Israeli children going about their everyday business in, say, Tel Aviv.

why can’t we all agree that humans deserve to be treated… like humans?

Yes but that poster was saying many children died, it’s just not true.

Yes, one child died. How sad that you seem to think that’s ok.

It is sad but given that just a couple of months ago Hezbollah killed 12 children in Israel through their indiscriminate firing on Israel (and for no reason, Israel is not in Lebanon, they are not defending Lebanon but doing Iran's bidding), Israel has a duty to protect its own children through preventing Hezbollah attacks.

The ones responsible for the death of that girl plus the 12 children murdered by Hezbollah is Hezbollah and their masters in Iran.
