Israel have triumphed here as they have put Hezbollah at a huge psychological disadvantage.

Were they Israeli? It happened in illegally occupied Syrian land, I'm not sure their nationality was ever released but given that 80% of Druze identify as Syrian I think it's unlikely all of the children were Israeli.

Edited

Yup makes it so much better if hezbollah killed some Syrian children in Israel rather than Israeli children. Tbf Hezbollah have been killing plenty of Syrians in Syria.

I didn't say it made it better and it didn't happen in Israel it happened in illegally occupied Syrian land.

Sorry if it's been posted already I haven't caught up yet.

It is being reported that Mossad is apparently behind the beeper detonations.

I struggle to understand what hamas and hezbollah supporters on here

There are no Hamas or Hezbollah supporters on here. The idea you think you can claim there are terrorist supporters posting on mumsnet is a very serious accusation. People are entitled to question what has happened, try and establish whether it was justified or in the parameters of the law and demonstrate remorse for any innocent civilians impacted by it. If you think that equals terrorist supporter you need to give your head a wobble.

I can categorically state that no NHS hospital should be using pagers - I have not seen one used 'in the wild' for over a year now. If any department are they will be a local run anomaly and are in contravention of the NHS wide edict issued April 2023 and such use should be reported as a security breach.

It's most likely that when doctors say 'did you bleep me' they mean a message on their mobile device - the terminology has just entered common vernacular now.

This isn't an appropriate thread for me to be posting lots of proof about our bleep/pager use. Please just believe me when I say I am not lying, or mistaken, it's not an anomaly limited to one departement, and clinicians are not saying bleeped when they mean messaged on their mobile device. Actual urgent bleeps /pagers are still in use across my Trust (non urgent ones have moved to other platforms). What should be happening in hospitals is often very different from what is happening.

Bit weird that a lot of posters on this thread seem upset about what was clearly a very targeted attack against Hezbollah members then. Describing it as a terrorist attack...against a terrorist group? How does that work?

"I struggle to understand what hamas and hezbollah supporters on here don’t understand"

"There are no Hamas or Hezbollah supporters on here"

I think the term "supporters" would be incorrect.

But I certainly think there are those who are clearly anti semetic (or anti Zionist as prefer to call it) and are therefore sympathetic towards those groups attacking Israel. For example those chanting in support of the Houthis attacking innocent merchant ships when let's be honest if you had asked them 3 months previously who the Houthis were then they probably thought they were a rebel force from Star Wars.

Equally there are examples of forced deportation and persecution of Afghan refugees in Pakistan by fellow Muslims that no one mentions. Or recent genocidal attacks by Muslims against Christians in Sudan that equally no one mentions. The difference of course with the Israelis is that they are predominantly Jewish.

Google the law of armed conflict. That should help you understand.

Depends on your definition of supporter I suppose. A poster on page one of this thread had her post deleted because she literally said she was on the side of Hezbollah and Hamas.

AhaHa · 18/09/2024 09:01

Isn’t it strange that nobody in the international community has condemned this so far?
Seems this attack was conceived to terrorise, wound, maim indiscriminately; at a time of day where children, families, innocent bystanders are all going about their business.
Surely this is a textbook definition of terrorist attack?
Why are rules on how to wage war so consistently ignored without any consequence or condemnation?

AhaHa · 18/09/2024 09:03

To be clear, and before anyone comes on here to accuse me of being a Hezbollah supporter… Hezbollah and Hamas terrorist activities are rightly condemned by the international community when they break rules of war. So why is the same standard not applied to cases like this?

No, it seems this attack was conceived to wound and maim the arseholes that are Hezbulloh. 🤷‍♀️

One poster whose post has been deleted. It was the blanket accusation which I was objecting to

justasking111 · 18/09/2024 09:04

Someone pointed out that with fingers missing they won't be able to pull any more triggers.

People with fingers missing will also get the side eye from neighbours, airport security and others.

It truly is the mark of Cain.

Posters have a right to question the ethics of the attack, question whether it was within the law, question whether it was a legitimate form of defence and have concerns about the potential impact on civilians. No idea why you find that weird. This is a very new unprecedented attack and we have a right to be concerned with this style of attack and what it could mean for all our safety going forward.

1dayatatime · 18/09/2024 09:08

You do realise that Hezbollah are a designated terrorist group under UK law.

No country has any sympathy for HZB, who should just give up at this point. Hamas too.

The ethics of a targeted attack on terrorist militants who are sending rockets into their country? What would that mean for your safety going forward?

AhaHa · 18/09/2024 09:13

How exactly was this a targeted attack?
These pagers were literally let loose, thousands of them, into the country. Some even travelled to Syria.
They exploded at a time of day when people typically mingle, so it’s no surprise that many of the victims were children.
they also made a beeping sound before exploding, I guess to ensure that people would reach for them and bring them close to their faces, which is why the health system in Lebanon is currently completely overwhelmed treating people for face injuries and lost eyes.
It’s not a targeted attack, it’s actually very barbaric and shows a total disregard for ethics and human life.

have you seen the explosions? They are tiny. They weee designed to target the individual, which they did.
