Sad 4th thread and hostages still held by Hamas and others.

Another year ends for the hostages and their families. I wonder if those still alive are able to mark the passage of time in captivity, it must feel like forever.
I remember my mum's Civics schoolbook where she wrote 'We are entering the 6th year of war.' Such a matter of fact sentence for a horrific reality beyond her control.

I believe for our Jewish friends they began the new year - 5785 in Oct, but yes for a lot of us we are now in 2025.

Who would have believed the hostages would be held for so so long - far too long !





I think for many of us, this family will be in our thoughts - as this is Mumsnet and many of us are mums.

It’s completely heartbreaking

Seventh consecutive day of firing from Gaza into Israel.

Have hostage news to post but the gist is that Hamas have asked for a week long ceasefire to collate hostage names. During that time no hostages will be released, the IDF will remain in Gaza and no displaced Gazan's will return to their homes.

There has been statement releases which I will try and post.

Not posted much on here recently, unfortunately nothing to post, only rumours of lots of almost deals, and I don’t want to post anything unconfirmed. They remain ever present in our hearts and prayers, and on our minds.

PIJ statement yesterday on a hostages attempted suicide I hope was psychological warfare. I cannot imagine the despair and anguish they must be feeling 💔

Hamas Releases Video of Israeli Military Spotter Held Hostage in Gaza

What happened to these girls is terrible beyond belief. Pray that they be released. Pray that against all the odds their spirits are holding up.

HOSTAGES/CEASE-FIRE: Hamas released footage of 19-year-old IDF spotter Liri Elbag, who was kidnapped by Hamas from the Nahal Oz military base and was taken to Gazaon October 7. This is the first video to be released of Elbag from captivity and the first sign of life in over a year.

• Elbag's family later called on Netanyahu to "make your decisions as if your children were there." They said "the video released today tore our hearts apart. This is not the same daughter and sister we know. She is in bad shape and her difficult mental state is evident," adding that "You must not miss the current opportunity to bring everyone back."

• Netanyahu's office later said he spoke with Elbag's parents, assuring them "that Israel continues to work tirelessly to return Liri and all the hostages home, and that efforts are ongoing – including at this very moment." It added: "The prime minister reiterates that whoever dares to harm our hostages – bears the responsibility."

• Speaking on the released video,Einav Zangauker, mother of the hostage Matan Zangauker, said: "We've now watched the sign of life of a heroic hostage who is surviving against all odds. Our hearts are with the family at this moment. We can't continue this hell any longer. We must bring everyone back and end the war."

• Following Hamas' publication of the video, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum Headquarters released a statement calling on the public to join the demonstrations and protest vigils to demand the return of the hostages.

Never has a government owed so much as Netanyahu’s does to those spotter girls on the border taken hostage by Hamas, whose warnings about Hamas being about to attack were ignored, and who were left aged 18 and 19 completely unprotected.

Thank you. I think we all hoped that the talk about a deal would have materialised by now to end this agony for the hostages and their families.

Sometimes I wonder if these are just 'nothing' posts all the time they seem to amount to nothing. Then I remember we have hope and maybe just maybe.....
