USA today vetoed the UNSC resolution for unconditional release of the hostages and a permanent, immediate ceasefire. They were the only vote against it. The other four permanent members voted for it – including the UK, which has previously abstained from three other ceasefire resolutions shot down by the US.

The reason? The USA ambassador incorrectly claimed it did not call for unconditional release of the hostages when it did!!

Really scared for the hostages. Three more World Kitchen aid workers blown up in a car today. Quadcopter shot and killed an ICU doctor. I have no faith that IDF will rescue the hostages, it seems like they are shooting first and then sorting out the bodies. No one in Gaza has taken up the $5m and safe evacuation of your family out of Gaza reward for getting a hostage free.

I think a ceasefire is their only chance and time is running out.

Surely someone knows where they are. The other hostages were kept with civilians.

Edan Alexander age 20 shown on Hamas released video. Shows that he was still alive, but they aren't sure when filmed. Held for such a long time

I agree it is known where they are by some Gazans. I worry that because it is so dangerous just to move around that anyone attempting to rescue a hostage and then make their way on foot towards IDF troops is likely to get themselves and the hostage killed either by IDF in front, or angry Hamas pursuing them from behind. The danger of doing it is what I think has kept anyone from trying it.

I'm sorry, @EllaDisenchanted . May his memory be a blessing. May those responsible for killing him and tormenting his loved ones all this time face justice in this life and the next.

Sick to let the family believe he could still be alive all this time and add to their trauma by not releasing the body so he can be laid to rest. May he rest in peace and the family finally be able to mourn his death.

Thank you for letting us know @EllaDisenchanted . What shattering news for his family, friends, and followers among the hostages who all support and take strength from each other. His loved ones would have been hoping so much that he was alive and this must be a most terrible blow.

The body of Itay Svirsky (38) was recovered by the IDF in conjunction with Shin Bet last night. He was visiting his parents in Beeri for the holiday when he was kidnapped. His parents were murdered in the attack.
