I see countless UK run accounts like this. Hundreds of comments just like this.

Why? It's horrendous. How can we let this be said in Britain without any consequences?

You couldn't start conversations about other communities and not end up reported to the police.

It is the conflation of all Zionists with the Zionist political parties that are violent and racist that makes the term “Zio” an antisemtic dog whistle and unacceptable to use in comments, on protest placards and so on. It’s a form, as noble giraffe put it, of collective demonisation.

And not all British political parties are harmless either. And in many other countries. None of this makes changes the definition of a word or makes it acceptable to, by implication, call for the dismantling of an entire nation.

The definition of Zionism is far more nuanced and varied depending upon which faction you research. There often isn’t the implication that comments like “send every Zio to hell” is calling for the destruction of Israel, although it can be inferred.

Usually the implication is that “Zio” is synonymous with “Jew” because it is used in the context of referring to specifically to Jewish people anywhere in the world rather than a nation state.

That is what makes it unacceptable and antisemitic imho. I don’t think it is similar to anti-American or anti-British or anti-Irish sentiment and slogans against those nations, it is more specific than towards nationality or a nation.

My post simply asked what the PPs post had to do with the thread and was deleted. But the post saying most zionists want to kill all Palestinians is fine.

Trying to conflate Zionism with racism and homophobia is neither moderate, thoughtful nor well-informed.

Zionism is a political standpoint so it is fair game for criticism just like any other ideology.

The fact that zionists tend to be Jewish is irrelevant. What has been done in the name of Zionism is abhorrent and deserves to be criticised. Claiming that criticism of Zionism is the same as criticising Jewish people just for being Jewish is now boring as well
as inaccurate. We all know that it’s just an excuse to try and shut people up.

Criticising the right of the Jewish state to exact sounds quite antisemitic to me. As is calling zionists bloodthirsty and saying to want genocide. But apparently they opinion of people who have experienced decades of hearing that particular dogwhistle doesn't matter anymore.

Anti Semites hide their anti semitism by calling Jews ' Zios'. That IS antisemitic not anti Zionist because these anti Semites are tarring ALL Jews as Zionists. FYI many Jews are just that, not Zionist at all.

Yes they do. But sometimes, often, when people say ‘Zios’ they genuinely mean Zionists. In the same way that people would use the word Marxist or socialist or communist.

Insisting that anytime someone uses the word Zionist they are automatically being anti semitic is just a way to shut down debate and exclude other sides of a valid argument.

In my experience as a Jew being called a Zio is insulting. I'm pretty well sure that people using the term mean it as an insult and are therefore anti Semitic. Perhaps they are merely ignorant.

I think the right wing Israeli government did so much harm in the completely vitriolic and arrogant way that they asserted that the land was theirs, and it would be achieved by hook or by crook. They demonstrated no sympathy whatsoever for those murdered by settlers, and this has been shown on social media repeatedly, and I think many associate this with zionism. Ben Gvir, Daniella Weiss etc etc, really did come across bloodthirsty and the violence has been ongoing for decades, in the name of zionism?
ETA: I don't know if they are representative of general Israeli ideology, but they did the state absolute no favours at all wrt garnering sympathy on a global level.
