I see countless UK run accounts like this. Hundreds of comments just like this.

Why? It's horrendous. How can we let this be said in Britain without any consequences?

You couldn't start conversations about other communities and not end up reported to the police.

At what cost?

This is just white washing.

No that's the definition of zionism.

And clearly, 'Zio' is being used as a thinly veiled cover word for Jew.

It doesn’t take much intelligence to see the important difference between Zionist and Jew.
please reconsider your post.

It absolutely is.

That's an entirely separate discussion. If someone considers themselves a Zionist the only conclusion you can reasonably come to is that they support the existence of Israel. Trying to portray a Zionist as a bloody thirsty genocidal maniac is a ridiculous interpretation

Convinient.

Social media is generally a cess pit. Never fails to amaze the things people write.

What I think is interesting and different about anti semetism is that the left wing are often the ones indulging in it, in a way they wouldn't dream of doing when it comes to other forms of racism. I find this particularly irritating as the left wing tend to frame themselves as having the moral high ground and that it's simply a manifestation of their superior humanitarianism. If you object to them, you are then portrayed as some sort of genocidal maniac.

Exactly this.

The two words do indeed have different meanings. That's is not difficult to understand, correct.

However what is currently happening a lot is anti semites who knows they can't say..."Jews out" or "no Jews here" for obvious reasons are using the word Zionist as cover.

I'm very confused can you explain

In this comment they are talking about Palestine/Israel right?

I thought a Zionist is someone who promotes/supports the Israeli state?

I get that Zionists include Jewish people (and non Jewish people) but how does this post indicate they mean ALL Jewish people not involved in the Palestine/Israel issue when they are clearly referring to Palestine/Israel?

Is this as bad as when Israeli ministers say 'kill them all' on the record about Palestinians in Gaza?

I mean you could start conversations about other communities. There was a 1000
post thread just last week on mumsnet about how people don’t like Muslims with loads of people chiming in as to why they don’t like them. I can hardly imagine any other community being subject to that.

And to be honest a Zionist is a political identity - plenty of people identify as Zionists who are not Jewish and it does imply a political stance. Just like people can’t stand ‘Tories’ or ‘Lefties’ or ‘evangelical Christian right wingers’ or ‘Islamist’s’ they can’t stand ‘Zionists’. Probably because many who identify as such ascribe to the idea that Israel should be allowed to annihilate Palestinians and continually take their land and arrest their children and run torture and detention camps. So it’s pretty understandable that people are going to dislike you if you ascribe to that ideology.

Wow

Yes because no one has ever used Zionist to mean Jew. Ever. The soviet persecution of "zionists" was purely about a political ideology.

More minimising, more derailment.

Misappropriating and redefining a term used by a minority that has a very specific meaning and purpose, whilst minimising the harm this does or denying there's anything wrong with doing it is the very embodiment of whitewashing.

ginasevern · 27/06/2024 13:43

So they know the difference between Zionist and Jew do they? Do they ask before they kill, which is obviously their aim. Could someone explain that please.

Also, they state there is nothing to condemn Hamas for. There's a lot of Palestinians (especially women) living for years under their extreme Sharia Law, male dominated regime who beg to differ.

No Hamas in West Bank. But still atrocities by occupying forces.

Unreal. Another empathy thread, for Jewish people going the same way.

I've not been on as much as usual this week, so I don't know what thread this was, but I'm sorry people were subjected to abuse and didn't have support in challenging it.

79Helene · 27/06/2024 14:48

@Scirocco Thank you. It's a horrendous thread - just hurts a bit because many of us regular Jewish posters were calling out and also reporting multiple Islamophobic posts on that other vile thread.

Scirocco · 27/06/2024 14:51

Regarding this thread, I think it could be better if, rather than arguing about definitions and whether or not to condemn a proscribed terrorist organisation or to be concerned about human rights issues in the occupied territories, we listen when people say this sort of post on social media causes hurt and fear. Maybe we can also all reflect on our own language on social media, including some on this thread, and think: "would we say this to someone's face?".

Is it still going, or did it get taken down? I didn't see the other thread you mention - hopefully it got taken down too, then.

79Helene · 27/06/2024 14:57

@Scirocco I don't think it was taken down, but was pretty close to 40 pages last time I saw it so it may well be closed now. It was on AIBU, so I've been trying to kid myself that folks on this board didn't see it, but of those that did turn up from CITME, it was to goad Jews and accuse us of imagining antisemitism, as per.

Whilst I don’t disagree with your initial point that other communities do come in for abuse, and equally don’t get moderated as robustly as they should, I completely disagree with the rest of what you are saying.

you are completely misrepresenting Zionism.
Zionism has both a political and religious meaning, neither of which are the bloodthirsty violent ideology you are making it out to be
