Boycotting Israeli products/services

the7Vabo · 18/06/2024 15:54

I’m trying my best to support the boycott. For those doing the same - what products/services are you using instead?

The hardest one for me has been giving up on going to Disney Paris next year. I had planned it as a joint birthday present, kids will be the perfect age. But I can’t stand in Disney with my kids knowing they support a regime killing kids.

Any good alternatives to Disney, or any other brand on the list?

So you don't see any fault in the Muslim Brotherhood at all? Just so we are clear on this.

I don't support any terrorist or extremist organisation... that includes the Israeli government

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 18/06/2024 19:14

Just a point: it’s no one’s ‘own land’. The whole area has been disputed for the last two thousand years. Everyone who currently lives there is an immigrant population of some kind. All the land in the area was taken by force in some war or other by the dominant power in that area at the time Phonecians/ Macedonians/ Persians/ Romans/ Byzantines/ Ottomans. Because it is a strategically placed port area everyone has always wanted it.

The ‘original’ inhabitants of that area were the Caananites, who no longer exist.

Hence why the Romans decided during the third Jewish Revolt that is would be easier to keep the land and get rid of the people by murdering hundreds of thousands and selling the rest into slavery- thus creating the Jewish diasporas of Europe and beginning the anti-Semitic persecution of the Jews.

Who were then replaced in their ‘own land’ by the Arab migrations of the fifth and sixth century. When Jews returned to what had been Judea they were subject to anti-semetic laws and abuses.

The history is so, so complicated. It does not excuse what is happening now. But be careful of Tik Tok history lessons and half truths.

This has been bubbling over for decades. Make no mistake that Hamas know very well what they are doing. They want to prolong this. They are watch ‘their people’ die and still refuse to return the hostages. They want this. Why are people not directing more condemnation their way?

Well next time I am food shopping I'll make a conscious effort to buy Israeli produce and cancel out your boycott

Go for it. I couldn't care less what you do.

So you fully agree with my previous statement then? That the Muslim brotherhood (hamas) is to blame here?

Can we assume that you're boycotting all Chinese goods and services as well OP, in support of the Uyghurs? And all other countries who commit human rights abuses?
Or is it just Jewish countries trying to defend its citizens from terrorists that you're avoiding?

I'm quite sure it will be all countries

PearlKoala · 18/06/2024 19:15

Sunshineonasameyday · 18/06/2024 19:13

If you're so moralistic about perceived genocides and human rights injustices please direct your anger towards China. Also have a look round your home and see how much of your home was made or designed in china.

I'm grand thanks. I'm happy with where my money goes at the minute.

@Sunshineonasameyday no actually, my posts don't suggest otherwise. At no point did I say I supported Hamas.

I support the Palestinian men, women and children being systematically wiped out by a genocidal regime that is the Israeli government.

And I support the innocent Israeli hostages.

So you only care about human rights if you see soundbites on social media?

Ponderingwindow · 18/06/2024 19:18

We have a completely integrated global economy. It is virtually impossible to make sure that any given economic choice you make does not have ties to an injustice somewhere in the world.

if you aren’t very precise, you are also going to find yourself shifting your spending from one company without a global conglomerate to another and making absolutely no difference at all.

effective boycotts are direct and simple. This current campaign is the exact opposite.

It's an unofficial form of sanctions promoted by an antisemitic organisation. I don't agree with sanctioning a population based on the actions of their government, especially when it directly leads to racial segregation, supports hate speech and leads to hateful actions.

I feel like you do sunshineonasameyday, it’s def an antisemitic organisation.
they’re trying to reel in gullible do gooders.

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 19:21

@Sunshineonasameyday no, I do not believe that Hamas are fully to blame at all. The Israeli government have persecuted to Palestinians for decades, a revolution of some description by self proclaimed freedom fighters is an inevitability in those circumstances.

What Israel has done since the horrific events of October 7th is to subject the Palestinian population to collective punishment. They are a country now blind with rage and revenge and it is absolutely disgusting. And I fully believe Netanhayu has taken this horrendous attack as an excuse to subject innocent women and children to genocide.

Word salad translated as, you support Hamas.

Hope you're not writing this on your phone, OP. A lot of mobile technology was innovated in Israel.

And to the individual who remarked that Israel has its hand in a lot for a small company, you're right. It is disproportionately full of hardworking, highly intelligent people galvanised by generational trauma.

Sometimes I think you hate us 'cos you ain't us 😂

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 19:25

@Sunshineonasameyday I have been very clear and chosen my words carefully.

At no time did I say I support Hamas... at no time.

Am I surprised they revolted? No.

I find many of the Israeli supporters will just call you a Hamas supporter, or antisemitic if you don't 100% agree with them though... which is exactly what you are doing.

Or it's disproportionately full of American money and is supported financially out the wazoo by the US who want to keep their supportive enclave in the Middle East....

How is it genocide?

Because what the Israeli army are doing in Gaza is killing with the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, in whole.

Not really, I'm reading your points, digesting them and finding flaws in your arguments. I see no impartiality only hatred towards a group of people. You claim to hate Israel yet a significant majority of Palestinians live in Israel. In fact nearly all Palestinians happily live outside of Gaza.

Hamas will not stop until Israel no longer exists, and in their mind until the Jewish people no longer exist. A certain Austrian born dictator had a similar ideological stance towards Jews. You are arguing for a Palestinian state without recognising the full impact of what that means. Hamas will NOT stop if Gaza is handed to them. They will simply carry on until Israel is no more.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 18/06/2024 19:30

@Sunshineonasameyday

I feel like posters like this can dismiss the October 7th attack in such a blasé fashion because they’ve actively steered away from the events, as if they were made up and not true. The gaslighting is insane.

@HelpAGirlOut1234 What happened on October 7th? Did you miss the babies executed and the tiny children. The rapes and tortures? Why do you think they did that? Was that acceptable revenge in your book? I’d love to hear your justification as to why it was an understandable action from Hamas. Go on, defend it.

While you’re at it. Why don’t you explain how it is understandable and not a war crime for Hamas to be holding women hostage they have impregnated via rape. What’s the totally inevitable, defensible motivation there? Why aren’t you campaigning just as hard for those poor girls and their babies to be released?

Are they planning to eradicate 2 million of their own population and the entire Jordanian nation then?

Funnily enough I'm not a Zionist, and so what if I were? Is this a Hamas supporters only board?

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 18/06/2024 19:32

@snygghygge What, to your understanding, is a Zionist?
