@easterissland, I hope you don’t mind me starting another thread now that the first is full.

Brave students worldwide are still showing more moral fibre than the political and media classes combined.

Students rise up in every generation. In mine it was Vietnam, my daughters it was Iraq. It's a rite of passage.

This.

In France any tiny demonstration by a couple of slightly narked students is immediately compared to 1968. 🙄

Kindatired how has the peaceful protest at Trinity Dublin made a difference? And to whom?

Kindatired how has the peaceful protest at Trinity Dublin made a difference? And to whom?

From the article:

Following engagement with the protesters, the college said it would complete a divestment from investments in Israeli companies that have activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and appear on the UN Blacklist in this regard.
This process is expected to be completed by June.
The students dismantled the camp after Trinity said it would “endeavour” to divest in other Israeli companies, noting that its supplier list contains just one Israeli company which will remain until March 2025 for contractual reasons.

They achieved their aim so dismantled their camp

Kindatired · 20/05/2024 22:14

@blackcherryconserve
Dulra has kindly answered your question. Furthermore , Trinity is a high profile university so it will encourage dialogue and non violent protest in other universities

Yes, this is already happening in other Irish universities like UCD.

blackcherryconserve · 20/05/2024 22:42

Kindatired I know exactly how high profile Trinity College Dublin is as DD2 studied there.

I had already read the article thank you Dulra, but as for Trinity 'divesting from investments' that may well come to bite them in the backside as so much information in technology, science etc has been shared by Israel (acknowledged leaders in these industries) in the past.

Personally I do hope that constructive dialogue continues. Without it there can be no peace, which I'm sure is what we all want.

Good to see that the students have the moral compass and clarity that their politicians in the US don’t have

Not directly linked to student protests but thought I d post this here as well as on another thread as I think whether it is students, EU workers, members of the judiciary from
across the world etc people are calling for change

The UN’s top court has ordered Israel to halt its assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah in a landmark ruling that will ratchet up the pressure on the increasingly isolated country.

The president of the international court of justice, Nawaf Salam, said the humanitarian situation in Rafah had deteriorated further and was now classified as “disastrous”, meaning the ICJ’s previously issued provisional measures “do not fully address the consequences arising from the change in the situation”.

Is it really too much to ask that MN censor pro-Hamas propagandists still trying to claim Israel is engaged in genocide? This is a lie, pure and simple.

As for the infantile 'students' and their pathetic virtue signalling, it is obvious none of them has even the tiniest clue about what is actually going on in Israel.
