..and why?

Admittedly, I really do not follow current affairs. I don't watch television or read newspapers etc. I know there is conflict and a lot of people have sadly lost their lives, but I don't understand why?

I have tried to read up on Palestine, Gaza, Israel.. but it's very confusing and seems to stem back decades.

Please can someone explain the history and current situation in plain, simple terms.

Thank you.

Well, this thread has certainly taken a turn circa November 2023 CITME.

Well, this thread has certainly taken a turn circa November 2023 CITME.

I don't think many people comment on these threads much now. Usually they are the same people chatting to each other. I think many Jewish mns use a safer caring thread on their own boards due to all the anti semitism. I don't blame them.

Others I believe, got fed up of being accused of things they didn't say, etc so don't bother (I'm in that group), although I do read sometimes I ignore the goady comments from those who don't understand why Israel needs to defend itself, and why many nations realise that, so it's not worth responding.

It's true that some people are anti Semitic, but standing up for Palestinians' rights doesn't automatically make someone anti semitic.

Often people believe in human rights for all, Israelis also, yet by making it so black and white you do a disservice to all, your own included.

So why when people are standing up for Palestinian rights they aren’t calling out the problem… it’s been said before, you don’t see people saying free Gaza from Hamas, you don’t see people acting on issues caused by Hamas.

Hamas started this current war. Why are people not protesting about that? From the beginning people jumped on to this and most used it as an excuse to be antisemitic and to shout about how they hate Israel.

There is support amongst Jewish people and Israeli people who support charities that help both sides. There are not many but there are some.

And people don’t need to stand up for Palestinian rights to the extent of bullying Israelis and Jewish people and anyone who disagrees. It feels very black and white so it’s how I feel I need to react

Because that take completely ignores the decades of occupation and mistreatment of Palestinians.

Again, simply not true.

And, if you are talking about decades of oppression and mistreatment take a look around from where Jewish people have been exiled from - pretty much everywhere.

The best outcome in the here and now is a two-state solution. However, you cannot have that with people who are happy with Hamas running their country.

You also can't have it when Israel won't allow it.

But if you ignore the last 70 years of history, or deny it happened, there's no point in discussing solutions with you.

I am advocating for Israel, I believe it should be a safe state for all people, but especially Jews considering the history.

As you should know, Jewish people lived there for a long time prior to when it became an official state. As you know, it wasn’t Palestine. So trying to “claim” it back when it wasn’t there’s to begin with isn’t going to work.

like I said, in there where and now, the best solution is a two state one. Only time will tell.

I'm not not sure what point you are trying to make here, other than the erasure of 70 years of history but seeing as Palestinians don't feature as a concern for you at any stage, there's no point in engaging with you any further.
