Conflict in the Middle East

..but would someone mind explaining what is happening in Palestine

..and why?

Admittedly, I really do not follow current affairs. I don't watch television or read newspapers etc. I know there is conflict and a lot of people have sadly lost their lives, but I don't understand why?

I have tried to read up on Palestine, Gaza, Israel.. but it's very confusing and seems to stem back decades.

Please can someone explain the history and current situation in plain, simple terms.

Thank you.

You’re delusional you really are. Sanctions have been imposed and I agree sometimes disproportionately. However, Palestine have broken every peace agreement ever made.

This is not genocide. We couldn’t stop
the Nazis slaughtering us. We done nothing but exist. Palestine can stop this now. The people elected terrorists Hamas. The good people need to take control and elect a new government.

I have personally witnessed Jewish Doctors and medics working in Palestine long before this. Israel have paid for and built hospitals.

How anyone can think that slaughtering people at a concert is justified is totally beyond me.

Hold your horses.

Please do show me where I said the 7th of October was justified?

”Sanctions”?! That is an absolute joke.
I have seen more dead bodies since October (of Palestinians never Israelis funnily enough) than any one person should ever see in their lifetime.

How do you propose the Palestinians elect a new government when their entire country is being reduced to rubble?
The last ceasefire was actually agreed to by both parties and who broke it by bombing indiscriminately? Israel.

The Genocide of our people doesn’t befit the Genocide of another, nor does Genocide apply only to Jews.

It’s unlikely Hamas would let them do that.

Israel has bombed every hospital in Gaza.

People blaming the Palestinians for what's happening to them, which may very well be genocide, is beyond me.

Hamas use schools, hospitals etc as human shields. They slaughtered 1400
people who were only attending a concert.

This was instigated and caused by them.

release the hostages. Palestine is entirely to blame. They are backed by hostile nations with deplorable human rights records.

Human Rights extend to all:

Not to be slaughtered as they slept.
Not to have children targeted and shot by snipers in the head.
Not to have aid workers/doctors and journalists that are trying to help them targeted and murdered.
Not to be displaced numerous times.
Not to be raped and sexually abused by soldiers.
Not to be starved and endure a man made famine.
Not to be used as human shields.
Have access to medicine and medical facilities.
Have access to an education.

I don't think anyone supporting the actions of Israel and the IDF should be using the term Human Rights.

695 civilians*

695 civilians*

726 Israeli civilians
71 foreign nationals
379 security forces
251 taken hostage
128 hostages still in Gaza
At least 65 of those hostages also killed.*

That might be a valid argument if they weren't also doing all the things @Martymcfly24 outlined in their post above. 2100 children under the age of 2 have been slaughtered in the last 10 months by Israeli forces.

If you're defending Israel's actions I wouldn't bring human rights into it. The IDF are behaving like savages.

I agree with everything you said. Try as they might. Evil will NEVER EVER destroy the Jews. We will survive. War is horrible Hamas is an evil regime. Jews didn’t riot or protest or scream and shout. We merely stood together and sang the Israeli national anthem.

Israel has always maintained that they will not tolerate any attacks on their people. They will hit back harder, the world stood by once and allowed mass genocide on an industrial scale. They will never rely on anyone else again.

Christians all over the world are standing with Israel.

My heart aches for the innocent Palestinian people it really does.

peace talks today, not sure if Hamas will even show up.

I think it's easier for some of you to placate yourself with the thought that it's all about Israel hatred. Rather than take a moment to reflect on why there is global criticism against the Israeli government and the IDF. I suppose you didnt give it a thought that it may just be to do with their atrocious actions and conduct in this war? any other democracy who acted in such a manner would be called out just the same way.

Lettherebejustice · 15/08/2024 09:01

I suppose some of you haven't stopped to think it's anything to do with Israel continuing to break international law either. How many more illegal settlements do we all have to turn a blind eye to so that nobody gets offended?

The world is once again standing by, America most of Europe and others are supporting and propping up Israel financially. They rely on them.

Every image of bloodied children, of heartbroken parents, of dead eyes of a population forgotten is going to be saved in history for all time.
Those images of white shrouds lying on grounds or being held by grieving mothers are there for all time. And if Israel achieve their aims and raze Palestine to the ground and it's occupants are all gone those images will be what the world remembers as they build their beach houses.

The world is hardly standing by. Remove the emotion and hyperbole for a minute, and tell us your solution? One that doesn't involve more deaths in Gaza but also not wiping out the population of Israel.

It’s not a competition. The PP’s numbers were wrong and deliberately dismissive. Guess some people still haven’t figured out you don’t need to attempt to erase and minimise the death and suffering on one side to deplore it on the other.
