Standing up for Israel

So, they have got to MN now too.
I just managed to read the previous post before it got deleted for being inflammatory. Not to me it wasn't but then I don't support terrorists.
Many, many people do stand for Israel and not for Hamas (and by definition their supporters; you know who you are).

Israel is a democracy. There is freedom of speech. There is freedom of press. Stop trying to claim that Israel isn't a democracy, it's incredibly weird and entirely baseless.

With regards to the second part, you said you are aware that protests against the government happen frequently and regularly and have been doing so for quite some time, yet you still claimed Israel isn't a democracy because they once used water cannons. So you know it's a democracy and that there is freedom of speech. Yet you claim otherwise.

I really don't know how to explain it for you to understand that this has nothing to do with the use of water cannon but more against whom they were used.
Do you understand now?
There is freedom of press.
Then why is no international press allowed inside Gaza? This is the first war, according to Jeremy Bowen, a respected war journalist, that he hasn't been able to report from the front line. Don't say it is because of safety because I really doubt it. This is censorship of the press.

Well, it is because of safety. Your doubts about it are completely irrelevant, specially since you don't even think Israel is a democracy 😂

The water canons were used against a demonstration that got out of hand. It's completely irrelevant what they were demonstrating about. It could have been a group of people out there showing support for the government but they would still have used the water canons if the crowd got out of hand. That's the bit that you're pretending isn't true.

Please stop spreading Hamasesque propaganda about Israel not being a democracy. It's absurd.

There it is! I wondered how long it would take.

It only took as long as it did because I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. I tried giving you chances to stop doubling down. You didn't take any of them, you're still claiming Israel isn't a democracy.

I'd still quite like you to stop with your propaganda against Israel but I assume it's a lost cause. At least now those reading the thread will be aware of your rather extreme views.

Brussels: Farmers protest leaves streets in chaos - BBC News

Water cannons were fired at farmers

In any case, using water cannons doesn't preclude a government from having a democratically elected government. Lots of countries use them against protestors. But Israel is the only that apparently is not a democracy as a result.

Your not the poster who wants the UN to overthrow the Israeli government and install martial law are you?

Water cannon fired as police clash with protesting farmers in Brussels

Water cannons were fired at farmers as they clashed with police in Belgium on Monday, 26 February, as European Union agriculture ministers met to discuss ways to address their concerns. Monday's action in Brussels follows weeks of protests against the...

How gracious of you to "give me the benefit of the doubt" but I didn't ask for it.

The irony is strong here!
Anyway, I need to wash my hair so off I go.

Israel not being a democracy has nothing to do with the water cannons that were used, and everything to do with the fact that they are military occupiers of another nation, as outlined succinctly in this recent clip.
(And btw, Palestinian protestors there get teargas and rubber bullets - I think water is too precious a commodity in the region to waste on those who are perceived as subhuman).

The PP was saying that Israel is not a democracy because of the watercannons. Despite the fact that they have a democratically elected government.

No, Israel is still a democracy. Good try though.

Also, anyone else note how it's only ever the anti-Israel posters who refer to Palestinians as "subhuman" and say they're not worth as much as Israelis? Constantly putting words in people's mouths. Maybe they're projecting? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Democracies do not have different rules for different groups of people. Democracies do not deliberately starve 2 million people, killing/wounding over a 100,000 people in 140 days (and that's just in Gaza alone). Say whatever you wish, but Israel's actions speak far louder than your words.

At least my words are based in fact.

Israel is a democracy. Gaza is not a part of Israel. Anything happening in Gaza, no matter how awful and horrendous, doesn't change the fact that Israel is a democracy.

Committing genocide in an apartheid-state for the last 75 years.

I stand with the Palestinians and anyone, obviously including Israelis, that wants peace.

Thank you @Hagpie 🙏 don't know why I subject myself to these threads. I've been largely avoiding mumsnet in the last few months as I felt an undercurrent of racism in the more political threads but am heartened by comments and posters such as yourself.

quantumbutterfly · 26/02/2024 23:29

Maybe stay away from a thread that says 'standing up for Israel' if it upsets you so much, unless you're going to add something constructive towards the 'peacemaking' you claim to crave and not inflammatory accusations.

stomachamelon · 27/02/2024 07:02

More protests in democratic Israel.

quantumbutterfly · 27/02/2024 08:31

Yes a lot of Jewish people and Palestinians are working for peace together.

7/10 helped nobody...but hamas knew that, a sustainable peace would have a terrible effect on their income streams.

Don't know how we got onto is Israel a democracy but in the fullness of time, we will come to wonder why we stood by and let so many innocent people die.

As the Sec Gen of the UN has said what is happening there is "Collective Punishment of the Palestinians"

How can anyone stand up for Israel when they kill so many innocent people? whole families wiped out as they shelter in areas the IDF has told them to move to in order to be safe.

The terror of 7/10 does not justify the deaths of so many people.

The answer to your question is simple: "but Hamas".
