Standing up for Israel

So, they have got to MN now too.
I just managed to read the previous post before it got deleted for being inflammatory. Not to me it wasn't but then I don't support terrorists.
Many, many people do stand for Israel and not for Hamas (and by definition their supporters; you know who you are).

In Ireland they weren't hiding in 3 miles of tunnels underground and the leaders weren't sunning themselves in the Middle East.

So you admit very clearly that Hamas leaders are not in Palestine, and therefore cannt de destroyed by bombing Palestine.

Some honesty, at last. So why continue to bomb the population, if Hamas leaders are sunning themselves in the Middle East ? Own foot - shot.

Ahh sadly it didn't take long for the
balanced post that sought to understand the situation from both sides to be replaced by the usual emotive tirades.

Although I am disappointed that you failed to include the obligatory buzz words and in future posts please include the following (even if it's not relevant to the topic) wherever possible:genocide, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, fascism, Nazis, etc etc.

Oh dear.

I think you'll find that the objective of in any war is to kill the people on the other side with guns (although I recognise there is much debate about how effective the Israelis are at this). If the objective is to four individuals then it is called an assassination.

It was rather amusing though that you genuinely thought you had a "gotcha moment " when in reality it was just an inability to understand the differences between a war and an assassination.

Emotive nonsense.

Did we stop bombing Germany in case we created more Nazis?

Did USA stop (conventionally) bombing Japan in case it encouraged more Kamikazi pilots?

No I didn't think so.

I could make comparisons too with Nazi Germany...
Before I get jumped on, my great aunt was a French resistant who was arrested by the gestapo, tortured and sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau. She survived and went on to work for the UN, you know the antisemitic organisation."

Although the story of Charlotte Delbo is impressive and courageous, I don't see the relevance to the post by @Ladyjanegreysketle other than they both occurred in WW2.

"I would also add that it also important for Palestinian to see an alternative path to hate and terrorism by making the West Bank a stable and economic success."

Ah yes. If only the Palestinians would stop hating the people throwing them out of their homes and building settlements on their land.

This is a really unhelpful response.

If you would just stop and think for a second you might realise that the terrorism is hurting the Palestinians as much as Israelis.
Wisdom is recognising that revenge and hate are never the answer.
It took time - but most Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland realised that “an alternative path to hate and terrorism “ was possible…. And that HAS led to increased stability and economic prosperity. ( although no one can be complacent that the bad old days could not return)

Can you give me an example where the end of colonial rule was not proceeded by horrendous death of the indigenous population? Honest question- because I can’t think of one. Resistance to occupation is what drove the colonisers out. It was highly effective.
You can’t subdue anger with more violence- Israel will have to negotiate. From what I’ve read/ the attacks by Hezbollah have vastly increased after bombardment of Gaza. It’s all linked.

Could I check if you're asking me or the poster I quoted?

Agreed, I didn't reply to the post you quoted as I found it quite offensive, to be completely honest.

Some here the bombing of Palestine has to continue to destroy Hamas and mainly its leaders. A poster has clearly said the leaders of Hamas are not in Palestine. So why continue to kill thousands of innocents. A very clear and simple question.

stomachameleon · 11/02/2024 20:02

The actual leaders aren't there but their terrorist generals and operatives are.

inkworks273 · 11/02/2024 20:09

So you kill more thousands of innocents- and some of their lower rank- and the Leaders are still out there 'sunning themselves'. And what next. Once the lover ranks are killed, the major Leaders will just roll over and say 'ah well- never mind. Let's forget about our Palestine'. Do you really think so?

Hmmm - I don't think you quite fully understand, so I will try and give a simple and clear answer.

So the main Hamas leaders are currently living in Qatar. Namely :
Ismail Haniyeh, the chief of Hamas's political bureau, Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas's communications office, Khaled Mashal, Hamas's former political chief

Then there are around 20,000 armed Hamas in Gaza that Israel wants to eliminate so that they won't or are not able to attack Israel again.

Then there are approximately 2 million Palestinian civilians in Gaza, a large number of whom have also been killed in the conflict

1dayatatime · 11/02/2024 20:58

@fleurneige

"And what next. Once the lover ranks are killed, the major Leaders will just roll over and say 'ah well- never mind. Let's forget about our Palestine'. Do you really think so?"

+++

We are already seeing dissent and anger from the Hamas leadership that remained in Gaza towards the more senior Hamas that are safely in Qatar.

So when a large number of lower rank Hamas are killed or the war ends then either a new group takes over in Gaza which could be more extreme (eg PIJ) or less extreme than Hamas (eg Fatah) or Hamas stays in control but by those Hamas leaders that stayed in Gaza.

Either way those Hamas leaders in Qatar will find themselves without support and deeply unpopular for sitting the war out in comfort whilst ordinary Gazans suffered. As such it is quite likely that they will suffer an unfortunate end but not by the hands of the Israelis.

@ProfessorPipsqueak so Hamas are the elected and wanted representatives of the Palestinians and they are needed to protect the Palestinians then? Prevent them from their homes being stolen? Terrorise their children?

That sound somewhat apologist.

Hopefully they will gain the freedom they deserve. From people who hide behind them, tunnel under them, steal their food and prevent them from entering bomb shelters.

How many times does it have to be said that civilians hiding in tunnels alongside Hamas is the definition of human shields.
It's also well known that the IDF are targeting tunnels in many ways, so not the brightest of ideas to hide in a place that is a well known target whether Hamas allows it or doesn't
