Standing up for Israel

So, they have got to MN now too.
I just managed to read the previous post before it got deleted for being inflammatory. Not to me it wasn't but then I don't support terrorists.
Many, many people do stand for Israel and not for Hamas (and by definition their supporters; you know who you are).

History shows that this isn't true though. Year on year on year on year more Palestinians than Israelis die. This isn't about not caring. This is about looking at the situation realistically. Israels existence is not in anyway threatened. It just isn't. It took two years of planning and lots of ignoring of intelligence warnings for Hamas to kill 1200 people. Israel retaliated and 4% of Gazas population is either dead, injured or missing in a few months. Israel have the power, this is clear for anyone to see.

So why did hamas do it? What did they hope to achieve?

Parkingt111 · 10/02/2024 21:26

@ChickHenLittle Yes I remember being told that these claims were hysterical and ridiculous. Well here we are today and I didnt see Netanyahu criticising that almost a third of ministers attended this conference. Infact all he said was they are entitled to their opinions.

@quantumbutterfly whilst Netanyahu has said he does not intend to rebuild settlements in Gaza, he is not exactly trustworthy and the recent actions of ministers are concerning to say the least. And these concerns can't just be dismissed as baseless is all I am saying.
Maybe his silence is just to appease the far right as he so desperately needs their support right now. But time and time again we see that the actions of the government are contrary to their statements. It doesn't seem likely that Netanyahu will survive another election and hopefully whoever comes into power next can stamp out any push of resettlement, if it isn't too late by then.

I'm not Hamas, I don't know but quick Google says Hamas officials said shortly following the attack that it was a response to the Israeli occupation, blockade of the Gaza Strip, Israeli settler violence against Palestinians, restrictions on the movement of Palestinians, and imprisonment of thousands of Palestinians.

Ladyjanegreysketle · 10/02/2024 21:48

@ProfessorPipsqueak Israels existence is not in anyway threatened

Whaaat?

They are surrounded by terrorist groups some firing rockets and other armaments at them.

Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Aim to accrue military resources and political power and defend its position of strength in Lebanon; wants to expel Western influence from Lebanon and the greater Middle East, destroy the state of Israel, and establish Islamic rule in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories

Hamas in Gaza (and now recruiting in the West Bank.)
Want to maintain control of the Gaza Strip to facilitate Palestinian nationalist aims; the group’s charter calls for establishing an Islamic Palestinian state in place of Israel and rejects all agreements made between the Palestine Liberation Organization and Israel

Army of Islam (Gaza)
Has a history of conducting rocket attacks against Israel, kidnapping civilians, and attacking Christians; conducted a bombing attack on a Coptic Christian church in Egypt in 2011 that killed 25 and wounded 100, probably has conducted joint attacks with IS-SP against Egyptian security service personnel;

Isis Sinai Province.
Aim to spread the Islamic caliphate by eliminating the Egyptian government, destroying Israel, and establishing an Islamic emirate in the Sinai

Palestine Islamic Jihad
Committed to the destruction of Israel and to the creation of an Islamic state in historic Palestine, an area that covers present-day Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank

fleurneige · 10/02/2024 22:14

The present day Israel should not exist. The State os Israel had clear borders- since then, illegal expansion has been taking place, with huge amounts of Palestinian land being taken and settled - ILLEGALLY

Yet they are still there and manage to kill more people than Israelis killed every year. Maybe Israel needs to take stock and look at who the threat really is.

Neither do they.

ConnieCounter · 10/02/2024 22:49

Interesting how the justifications for this genocide evolve as the war crimes stack up. I guess we're in the paranoid everyone is out to get us so we just have to kill 30k people and starve millions to defend this threat we've imagined stage of the process.

Ridiculous.

LaDernièreChanson · 10/02/2024 22:49

Really dangerous rhetoric on this thread. What a shame posters can't have something resembling a balanced conversation about this situation without such extreme - and clearly - uninformed views. I'm absolutely no fan of Israel's behaviour but fuck me we've got someone upthread coming pretty close to calling for the destruction of Israel.

Israels existence is not in anyway threatened. It just isn't.

not to mention a complete lack of understanding about the (long standing) terrorist threats Israel faces, which come from all corners of the region. A PP tried to explain but of course the reaction was la la la fingers in ears. Such entrenchment and unwillingness to engage in good faith makes threads like this absolutely pointless.

Perfect28 · 10/02/2024 22:52

Hey OP have you read the story today about 6 year old Hind? How many more children have to die?

Ladyjanegreysketle · 10/02/2024 22:58

@LaDernièreChanson "but fuck me we've got someone upthread coming pretty close to calling for the destruction of Israel."

They certainly did and I have reported it.

Wow.

Ask a terrorist, we are mostly parents, we have consciences, we care, they use that as our weakness. Kfir bibas has not even had a chance at a life so stop the emotional hyperbole, give your head a wobble and thank god (if you have one) it's not your loved one.

Israel has killed over 10000 children since October.

You talk of numbers then you talk of individual children, don't you get it? Or are you part of the propaganda war? Good people want peaceful coexistence and if you don't believe that of Israelis as well as Gazans, then you are part of the problem.

underneaththeash · 10/02/2024 23:11

I fully supported Israel. But they can’t go into Raffa - the people there have no where to go.
Hamas needs to be destroyed, but not at the expense of 1.5 million other people.

Who's the 'we' there?

I read it more as the poster was saying that the current self-proclaimed boundaries (the Occupied Territories) shouldn't be there. Not that Israel as a country shouldn't exist.

I didn't say anything about Israelis. 30k Palestinians have been killed and it looks like that number will grow if Israel get their way and murder more in Rafah.

I'm not the problem here. People supporting genocide are.

Same. “The present Israel” says to me they’re happy with Israel but not with its current borders. But I’m not the other poster so can’t talk for themself

Excuse me?

That's slightly rude and uncalled for.

Your response of "Ask a terrorist, we are mostly parents, etc" could easily be taken in a number of ways, depending on who you are referring to as we. Simply asking for clarification.
