I was at a funeral this morning of a child, a friend and classmate of my child. The effect that the loss of this child has had on the community was clear to see. Family, neighbours, friends, classmates, teammates, teachers, coaches, parents of the children affected and many more. Hundreds of people all coming together to honour this poor child who will never get to see adulthood. It was a lot, so much grief and loss.
Hind, Layan,Sidra and 1000s and 1000s more children, all gone forever, all leaving the same holes in their communities that the child whose funeral I attended today has. It is incomprehensible how Gaza can ever recover from this. How they manage to put one foot in front of the other when faced with a level of grief that is unimaginable.
My child is dreading school on Monday and being faced with the empty chair of his friend. Gaza will have over 12,000 empty chairs if they ever get back to school. I know this is a bit of a pointless ramble but I'm just so sad this afternoon, so much pointless loss, so much avoidable grief, so many empty chairs and so many children like my son left grieving over them.
