Yes, this

Next there will be another along and they'll talk among themselves about the depravity of posters keeping on topic. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The inhumanity! Shame on you, topic sticklers!

stomachameleon · 13/02/2024 23:18

Big ole list of what depth of humanity you have indeed plunged to.
Asked for you to go/ remove yourself from thread/ your opinion not welcome.

On a thread they don't have to engage with. Weird that?

@stomachameleon I see you and others have ignored my question on whether you think it would be a good idea to change the title of the thread?

Is it only the stereotyping of Jewish people you are against? Because the title implies that anyone who goes to or supports the marches wants to intimidate Jewish people, which is stereotyping, and bound to rile people up.

Your inflammatory title is inviting people to disagree with you.

Then when people show up to disagree with you, you claim that you don’t like it.

0palfrootee · 14/02/2024 08:22

@PeasfullPerson if you had read the entire thread, and part 1, you'd know that the thread title is a quote from a newspaper article and the thread was started to discuss that article. It is even shown in quote marks.

PeasfullPerson · 14/02/2024 08:56

@0palfrootee I had read it was from a Dailymail article, that doesn’t make it less inflammatory.

0palfrootee · 14/02/2024 09:12

Right- but surely that's what makes it worth a discussion?

Didn't the original thread have a question mark at the end though? Albeit clearly a fake one
I went on one march last year. Personally I saw no antisemitism. With the unfolding horror obscenity I plan to go again this Saturday.
I will report back if I see any antisemitism or intimidation of anyone i believe to be jewish.

PeasfullPerson · 14/02/2024 09:34

Yes thanks, report back here.

I believe the majority of people who attend the marches will be the very type of people who will speak up against injustices in general and want to help eradicate this for all groups.

I think it would be a good idea to encourage these people to help with the issue rather than alienating them, then energy can be directed at this, rather than defending their own position.

Februaryfeels · 14/02/2024 09:39

@PeasfullPerson Why is this particular title inflammatory

We've managed a whole one and a half threads largely on topic other than a handful of posters who turn up on every thread regardless of what it's about, to say the same thing over and over. The majority of posters understand the thread and can post accordingly

If I don't like the title and topic of a thread I try to ignore

and to be honest, when the usual suspects turn up, in results in an eye roll and a scroll on

The title is a quote and a continuation. It follows Mumsnet conventions. Why should Mumsnet change it?

noblegiraffe · 14/02/2024 09:39

And it appears to be an attempt to derail when we were discussing protestors who had been charged with supporting terrorism.

CortonCalamities · 14/02/2024 09:41

@PeasfullPerson you do realise that there has been lots of photographs on this thread of unsavoury placards that have been held at marches. I believe it gets updated with each one?

Whilst they might not be an overall sentiment there is clearly an underbelly of targeted antisemitism.

Also I have to ask, do you mean to sound so bossy? You seem very keen on instructions!

I've come across a couple of these marches and hand on heart the people on them do not fit your description.

I suppose it must depend on which part of the UK but the ones I've had the misfortune to happen upon have been ugly, threatening and unpleasant

noblegiraffe · 14/02/2024 09:48

Whilst they might not be an overall sentiment there is clearly an underbelly of targeted antisemitism.

There also seems to be associated intimidation of people who do not toe the 'accepted' line by e.g. shopping at Zara or eating at McDonalds.

Scirocco · 14/02/2024 10:00

@Februaryfeels I'm sorry you've had that experience.

The events I've been involved with have tried hard to ensure an inclusive and safe environment, and we certainly don't turn a blind eye to antisemitism or any other form of bigotry or hate.

Sometimes people have turned up and expressed views which aren't consistent with our approach. When we encounter that, our first intervention is to try to educate and advise - sometimes people are simply misguided or unaware, and they often appreciate the advice. But, if people are clearly expressing hate then we have no problem with reporting that to the police, who can then manage the situation according to their procedures.

Thinking about it, barging into this thread to accuse people on it of supporting the murder of children is a similar vibe to those banging on the window of McDonalds shouting 'shame on you' at customers.

stomachamelon · 14/02/2024 10:11

@PeasfullPerson I have spoken to Mumsnet (who have been really helpful) about making sure it's obvious it's a quote and where it came from.

I hope this is a suitable compromise.

PeasfullPerson · 14/02/2024 10:25

OK thanks @stomachameleon at least you have given it some consideration. I still think it is inflammatory and will attract the wrong type of comments, but we will have to agree to disagree. I will have to assume that it is not your actual opinion, or that you aren’t trying to provoke a reaction.
I think some people have misinterpreted that I had suggested mumsnet change the title, when I was actually asking for your thoughts and whether you would consider it.
I note that @CortonCalamities has said I seem ‘bossy’, so again I am subjected to a personal insult by someone, rather than an actual response to my suggestion.
I will still come to this board despite differing view points and unpleasant exchanges, because I would like to keep informed about any antisemitism that is happening at marches and the impact this is having.

PeasfullPerson · 14/02/2024 10:29

I understand that some people who do hold antisemitic views have felt they can now get away with publicly expressing them, and that this is intimidating, and that it increases the likelihood of people acting out on these. This is not OK.

stomachamelon · 14/02/2024 10:34

@PeasfullPerson well you did I ask that I change it.
You didn't @ me until this morning so I didn't see it.
I think it's clear it's a quote and it's the second thread about it. Perhaps a bit of spacing will make all the difference. I didn't start the original thread I just opened part two.
I was just chatting to Mumsnet about it hence the delay.
I think this thread is vital for keeping people aware of both what is happening at the marches.

noblegiraffe · 14/02/2024 10:37

PeasfullPerson · 13/02/2024 22:00

@inkworks273 I was about to write the same thing. I don’t believe those badges were appropriate and action needed to be taken. But at the same time there are people who think it’s absolutely Ok for mostly men in another part of the world to kill innocent children. This is what bothers me the most.

Your more recent comments about merely being concerned about the thread title being inflammatory are rather disingenuous given that you were quite happy to also barge in and agree with another poster who was throwing accusations around about people on this thread.

Oh come on

She said you seemed bossy. If you are really insulted by that ("Yes thanks, report back here" being one example) then report it. Or accept an honest opinion. Whatever you think best

What's a fake question mark?

The original thread quite clearly wasn't actually meant as a question. There are several such threads around. Of course the thread is now headed by a statement.
A statement which many would dispute if they have actually encountered the marches either as a participant or bystander/observer.
One might of course ponder how close mr littlejohn has been to the marches he pontificates on.
