"The growing body of evidence about reported sexual violence is particularly harrowing," two UN-appointed independent experts on torture and executions - Alice Jill Edwards and Morris Tidball-Binz - said in a statement today.

The statement referred to allegations of sexual torture, including rape and gang rape as well as mutilations and gunshots to genital areas.

"These acts constitute gross violations of international law, amounting to war crimes which, given the number of victims and the extensive premeditation and planning of the attacks, may also qualify as crimes against humanity," the experts said.

"Each and every victim deserves to be recognized, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or sex, and our role is to be their voice," they added. (Reuters)

My partner is from a country with conscription, he served his national service. Mostly behind a desk but in the military. I wonder, if people barged into our home kidnapped him and raped him
would you be gleefully trying to justify it? But he's not Jewish so maybe not.

All captives should be released including these women taken only days ago.

Except the ones you think deserve it, eh?

"Only 4% of the Gaza's population has been killed"

Well Hamas has an interesting way with words don't they!

I mean they are obviously just a humanitarian group looking after their citizens surely?

It's in the fucking article.

'There were girls who spent 50 days and more alone,' she said. 'When they were sad, crying, their captors would stroke them and touch them. They described accounts of sexual abuse under gunpoint on a regular basis.

stomachameleon · 08/01/2024 21:39

@Livinginanotherworld it's not a 'rhetoric' if there was evidence women and girls were raped on 7/10. They would hardly behave better when they dragged them back to Gaza by their hair (Naama) and splayed their dead bodies on the back of trucks.

And other hostages have confirmed it.
I don't know what's the matter with you?

It is the sheer disregard for the horrors of October 7th including the sexual violence that makes people discredit pro Palestinian support. There would be sympathy for a peace process if there was a simple acknowledgment that the horrors these women through was simply wrong, unambiguously wrong.

The idea that October 7th was a 'military action' or a 'desperate response out of oppression' is one without humanity. October 7th was simply in terms of sheer human suffering the worst terrorist atrocity in recent history.

My hear goes out to those poor young women. Let's hope they find peace and joy in life again

SomeCatFromJapan · 08/01/2024 21:41

My brother did conscripted national service. He was a teenager too. He was in an active conflict and it was absolutely terrifying for my family.

GaterGame · 08/01/2024 21:42

Trulywonderful · 08/01/2024 21:40

Sorry, meant to quote @Livinginanotherworlds post. The one where he said that because these girls (according to him) could have got out of national service it was their fault they were kidnapped and sexually assaulted.

stomachameleon · 08/01/2024 21:43

Scraping the barrel with that 'news' article.

As I said, if more kids refused to be conscripted ( the world over, I’m talking generally ) they wouldn’t be cannon fodder for governments war mongering games.

stomachameleon · 08/01/2024 21:43

@SomeCatFromJapan I have family serving now (recalled)

What do you think would have happened in Israel on 7 October if there wasn't an army presence? I wonder what the death toll of murdered, tortured, raped civilians would have been?
It would have resembled the Rwandan genocide.

SomeCatFromJapan · 08/01/2024 21:45

@stomachameleon I will pray for their safety.

This is probably the worst victim blaming I've seen on here - a women's forum FFS - and honestly this would probably be a good time for you to take a step back. Have you just been close-eyes-fingers-in-ears at the sexual abuse testimonies? Or do you just not believe them - because why? I think even if you'd witnessed it yourself you'd still be minimising it, or blaming the parents or whoever. Anyone but Hamas.

That's OK. I was confused for a moment but then figured you meant to tag that one

I like the 9/11 theory and the everything on the antisemitism at protests thread is a lie posts. At least with those you can just ignore the blindness to facts and right them off as no mark fuckwits. When they deny things like this those, that is a whole different matter. So sickening and so very dangerous.

The UK and the US don’t have conscription, we still have fully functioning armed forces, but maybe they are trained to be more professional because they have chosen to do so.
Chucking kids into a combat situation who are not there by choice is hardly the way to go and certainly as we have seen of the antics by IDF in Gaza with their nasty videos not exactly professional.

Interesting 🤔

The UK and US don't have Hamas on their border.

And I'm guessing a keen follower of Sulaiman Ahmed, judging by the almost verbatim regurtitation.

You're right. IME it's mostly men who victim blame when it comes to sexual assault but some women do it too.

mids2019 · 08/01/2024 21:54

When you read these stories you realise why there are strict border controls with Gaza. How can you not have a fence when it stops people like this getting into your country?

October 7th has reduced support of the Palestinian people across large swathes of the right minded population and I think there are some that release this and are desperately trying to mitigate the impact. Shame on them.
