My understanding is that there is compulsory conscription in Israel so these nineteen year olds ( yes they are “ young teen girls” ) did not have too much choice. I imagine they would rather not have to be conscripted. Very unpleasant to sneer “If they are so young and innocent why are they sent out to fight and kill innocent civilians ?“

A surveillance soldier is still capable of killing and will have been trained and equipped, whether they were off duty or not, they were on their base and are military personnel. I don’t think soldiers in any conflict are divided into safe and non safe. They could have been called up to go into combat at any time, therefore could be considered a threat.

We were not at war on October 7th. The war started when Hamas attacked. They were not combat soldiers, they were observation soldiers, they watched the border. What about Naama Levy, 19, also currently a hostage, the famously photographed girl with the cut ankles and blood all around the seat of her trousers, who participated in Hands of Peace, and also an observational soldier... ?
