Part 3.

I hope they come home soon and there's no need for a part 4.

And further down that same Times if Israel report ….

Sukkot also said he had participated in a rally calling for Israel to resettle Gaza when the war is over, saying such a move should be seen as an alternative to the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority taking over control of the Strip. The idea has gained popularity on the hard-right since the war started. Israel cleared its settlements from Gaza during its unilateral withdrawal from the territory in 2005.

“In almost every war Israel took territory from the enemy,” he said. “Settlement in Gaza is just a very small part of what we are thinking of for the day after [the war ends].”

onegrumpyoldwoman · 15/05/2024 21:33

@ScrollingLeaves What gives a fig what Sukkot says?

He's a right-wing nutter.

He's one of a group of Zionists that have a whole 7 members in their party.

They hardly have much influence.

He is one of a group of thousands who today marched about resettling Gaza. (What he called a rally.)

Thousands of Israelis joined a far-right Independence Day march on Tuesday in the south, led by Jewish activists advocating for resettling Gaza and forcing Palestinians to leave the enclave. (Haaretz briefing today.)

Have you heard what Ben-Givr said at the same event? He is hardly without influence. The whole problematic recent trajectory has been influenced by the “nutters”.

"Israeli leaders have said they have no plan to resettle Gaza, and any attempt to do so would lead to an intense international backlash."

Here is what Ben-Givr had to say. He does have influence.

As much influence as the pro-Palestinian marches in London have on UK government. 🙄

Why do you say that is from my post?

’Leaders’ [some of them] may well say that, but Israel is split. This group is causing a lot of trouble and Ben-Givr and Smotrich and others are allowing Netanyahu to stay in power. He needs them.

If they did not have more influence and power to disrupt than that, this whole disaster might not have got to this stage.
They are causing shame to Israel and Netanyahu depends on them.

Would you tell me where, please? I cannot seem to find that quote you say is from my post.

Not that I doubt that

From the Times of Israel

  • "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the idea of Israeli civilians resettling Gaza. The idea of Palestinians from Gaza finding new homes outside after the war has also been widely rejected by the international community, in particular Arab nations, who have insisted that there be no further displacement of Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza."
onegrumpyoldwoman · 15/05/2024 22:44

@ScrollingLeaves From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Israel had dismantled its settlements in Gaza in its unilateral withdrawal from the area in 2005 after 28 years of occupation, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that there is no current intention of permanently occupying Gaza or displacing any civilians living in the area. In the context of the Israel-Hamas war, however, some Israelis have proposed expulsion of or creating conditions leading to the exodus of Palestinians from the area and a new wave of resettlement of the Gaza Strip.

Thank you very much, though what you have quoted here is not the same as what you quoted before that you said was in my post:
"Israeli leaders have said they have no plan to resettle Gaza, and any attempt to do so would lead to an intense international backlash."

And my post linked this Times of Israel Link
https://www.timesofisrael.com/far-right-coalition-mk-not-sure-it-is-possible-to-bring-back-all-gaza-hostages/

rather than this one you have linked, presumably as being mine
https://www.timesofisrael.com/thousands-sign-up-for-independence-day-march-backing-gaza-resettlement

Anyway, it does not really matter. I get your point that one group who want to expel Palestinians and take over Gaza are nutters who have no power and don’t count, while Netanyahu and those who have the power say they have no intention of expelling Palestinians and settling in Gaza.

My impression though is that the nutters have more power and influence than you believe, and that Netanyahu is influenced by them and would be in trouble without them. Nevertheless, I hope you are correct.

Israeli army confirms deaths of two Thai nationals missing since October 7

Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari, during his daily media briefing, said that the army informed the families of two Thai citizens who were suspected to have been taken captive on October 7 that they were, in fact, killed that day during the Hamas attacks on Israeli territory.

Hagari named the Thai citizens as Sontia Ok’Krasari and Sontisek Rintalk, and said that they were working in agriculture on farms near Kibbutz Bari. He also claimed that Hamas has held their bodies since October 7

Thanks @Efacsen just saw this in the news and was about to post 💔💔
i haven’t tracked what the number of living hostages is now. I’m worried to look. On the day Nadav Popplewell was reported dead by Hamas I went to the doctors, and outside were a couple of hostage posters, including his 💔. It’s increasingly bleak.

Efacsen · 16/05/2024 21:27

It's very sad indeed

And very very uncertain who still survives - seen estimates varying between 100 and 65

But nobody knows til they come home

EllaDisenchanted · 16/05/2024 21:28

I’ve just seen the number of confirmed hostages who are not alive anymore is 40

anotherlevel · 17/05/2024 00:33

💔

Zoflorabore · 17/05/2024 05:19

@EllaDisenchanted what are the chances that they will release the names?
not meaning to sound negative but I thought the number would be higher by now. Cannot believe how long it has been now, heartbreaking.

Hamas cannot drag this on forever.

Do you mean the names of the hostages who are confirmed to have died?

The names have been released, it is just slowly, as they continue to gather evidence, that they confirm which hostages can be confirmed to have died. So I haven't see a list in one place.

They never actually got a list of hostages from Hamas in the first place, although returning hostages comments from what I remember showed that Hamas know very well who they are holding. So confirmation of who is being held hostage was from witnesses, and other evidence. The investigation is still ongoing -a couple of weeks ago, one of the men thought to be a hostage was confirmed to have been murdered at Nova on Oct 7th, ad mistakenly buried with other remains. It was complicated by the fact that they set fire to the bodies, so remains were badly burned.

Elyakim Libman was a security guard at the Nova music festival when Hamas attacked on 7 October.

The names of those confirmed to have died are primarily coming from Israel, as Hamas are proven to use psychological warfare, and claim hostages have died, even if they have not. However, they have released some videos which show hostages who have been killed, and in those cases, Israel does confirm their deaths.

Hamas cannot drag this on forever.

In the past, one or two people/ bodies have been held.(They were still held before 7/10 I believe).

Now we have over 100 people...over 100 days.

I don't credit the majority of Hamas crazies with compassion, I watched the Sandberg film, I saw Noah, Naama and the Bibas families horror documented for the world.
Willingly or not many Gazans were complicit in taking, selling, hiding innocent people.

The world needs to see what they have done with the people they took. This is not 'resistance' it is psychopathy.

EllaDisenchanted · 17/05/2024 14:13

A little nervous to post this as I have only seen this in one place, and not had time to look at proper news sites, so don’t take this as a given.

Unverified reports that the IDF recovered several bodies of hostages in Gaza. Currently going through an identification and verification process. IDF spokesperson to give a statement at around 5 (Israel time - in an hour)

if I hear this in more places I’ll update
