Part 3.

I hope they come home soon and there's no need for a part 4.

This was reported in the times, however I should add that it's not verified or confirmed by Israeli officials. Nor does it mention Rafah, which Netanyahu has vowed to attack regardless of a ceasefire deal.
However, if it is the case then it does seem quite promising as it will see the release of all hostages including the bodies of the deceased.

It is a bit of a long read but it details the truce in stages, the below has been copied from The times of Israel:

Lebanese news outlet al-Akhbar publishes what it says is the text of Israel’s truce and hostage deal offer to Hamas, as conveyed by Egyptian mediators, which would see at least 33 captives released in a first phase, and later stages that would establish a sustainable calm.
The first stage of the deal, to last 40 days, involves a staged withdrawal of Israeli troops from parts of the Strip in order to allow the movement of humanitarian aid and the return of civilians to their homes.
The deal provides for 500 trucks, including 50 fuel trucks, to enter the Strip each day, including supplies designed to rehabilitate the Strip.
Israel will cease aerial surveillance of the Strip for eight hours a day, and 10 hours on days hostages are released.
Hamas must release at least 33 living captives — female civilians and soldiers, children under the age of 19, the elderly, the sick, and the wounded.
For every female civilian and child released, Israel will free 20 minors and female Palestinian prisoners. For every elderly, sick and injured hostage released, Israel will free 20 prisoners over 50 who are also sick and injured, as long as they are not serving a sentence of over 10 years.
For every female soldier released, Israel will free 20 prisoners serving a life sentence, and another 20 serving 10 years at most, who may be released to Gaza or abroad.
Hamas will provide a list of prisoners it wants released, containing up to 20 names; Israel will retain a veto on the names provided by Hamas.
From the 16th day of the truce, the sides will begin indirect negotiations on an arrangement to restore sustainable calm to Gaza, the report says.
The second stage of the deal, to last 42 days, will involve completing agreed-upon arrangements for sustainable calm. And it will see the release of remaining Israeli male civilians and soldiers, in exchange for a certain number of Palestinian prisoners and the full withdrawal of IDF troops from Gaza.
The third stage, which will last 42 days, will involve the exchange of dead bodies from both sides and the implementation of a five-year rehabilitation plan for Gaza, including a provision that Hamas must not rebuild its military infrastructure.

Again, I should re-iterate the above is not verified by any Israeli officials, but I know they generally don't openly publicise details regarding any negotiations until it has been agreed upon by both sides.
Here's hoping a deal can be reached

That all sounds so good, but how does it fit with Israel then going on to obliterate Rafah?

Parkingt111 · 01/05/2024 14:06

OK I have just read again that Netanyahu has just told Blinken that no matter what, the Rafah operation will go ahead so I don't think the above is correct.
Sorry all for any confusion

Mydoghealsmyheart · 02/05/2024 00:42

Why did Israel enter into more negotiations if their leader then states that they will move into Rafah anyway? It doesn’t make any sense.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/taken-captive-dror-or-as-his-house-went-up-in-flames/

Dror Or from Kibbutz Beeri has just been confirmed to have been murdered on October 7th. His body remains hostage in Gaza. Noam and Alma, his children were also taken hostage, but released in November. Their mother, Yonat, was also killed on Oct 7th.

Elyakim Libman, who was thought to have been abducted by Hamas on October 7, has been declared dead after his body was found in Israel.

BBC article about Elyakim Libman, who stayed to help others despite the risks.

How terribly sad for his family to find out now that he is not a hostage. He was evidently extremely brave, and helped other people amid all that horror.

Israelis held hostage in Gaza - part 3
EllaDisenchanted · 06/05/2024 19:31

Kan: Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire agreement that will only see three hostages be released every week, during the six weeks of the ceasefire

stomachamelon · 06/05/2024 19:35

@EllaDisenchanted which is not what Israel proposed or have accepted I assume?

@EllaDisenchanted which is not what Israel proposed or have accepted I assume?

I don’t know for sure. Would very much doubt it. News I am seeing is reporting that the Egyptians changed the terms from what Israel proposed and Hamas agreed to Egypt’s changed terms which Israel didn’t propose.

stomachamelon · 06/05/2024 19:55

@EllaDisenchanted that's what I have seen.

This is interesting imo, from Haaretz daily briefing:
The majority of Israelis, 62 percent, believe that a deal to release the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza should be prioritized over additional military action in Rafah, *a poll from the Israel Democracy Institute found.^

Volunteer ambulance driver, Lior Rudaeff confirmed to have been killed on October 7th, his body is being held hostage in Gaza.

it’s looking (to me at least) more and more like they mainly took bodies back to Gaza.

Believed to be hostage, 61-year-old Lior Rudaeff confirmed dead, his body held in Gaza

From Haaretz (Israeli newspaper) briefing.

This seems very surprising.:

At a conference organized by the Israeli daily Ynet, released hostage Mia Schem said no government representative spoke to her after she returned from captivity. "It's infuriating. I was abandoned," she said. Schem's mother, Keren, added that "The fact that I have met President Macron several times and other global political figures," but none in Israel, "is a bit strange."

Hamas are claiming British Israeli hostage Nadav Popplewell has died. https://m.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-800779

I have seen the following from an unconfirmed source
Hamas said in a statement on Saturday that the British-Israeli hostage Nadav Popplewell had died of wounds that he sustained in an Israeli airstrike more than a month ago.

Popplewell, 51, was a captive taken from Nirim kibbutz and a video previously released by Hamas’s armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, showed him displaying visible signs of physical abuse.

Popplewell and his mother, Channah Peri, 79, were abducted on 7 October from their residence in Nirim kibbutz, while his older brother, Roi, was murdered in the assault.

Peri was freed on 24 November.

In a statement released by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum headquarters, the family of Popplewell requested “that the recently released Hamas video not be published or used”.

Popplewell had a black eye in the video, but no other visible injuries.

He looked beaten, finally killed him. How many hostages are still alive. Do they even know where they are

“IDF spokesman: There are hostages in the Rafah area, we are determined to work for their return”

(seen in a couple places including ynet). Not seen on TOI or J post etc

Would that be through negotiating a ceasefire then I wonder? It is difficult to see how bombing Rafah would not endanger them.

I don’t know scrolling, I’m sorry. I’ve read so much the last few days, I don’t even know where to look to check, but i have a recollection of seeing somewhere that negotiations were still an option, or maybe that they were still happening? I’m not sure. I always keep my eye out, so I’ll update if I see anything

From The Times of Israel,

^Far-right coalition MK:
‘Not sure’ it is possible to bring back all Gaza hostages’^

Religious Zionism's Zvi Sukkot says 'everything' must be done to free the captives, but not at the expense of significant harm to national security

MK Zvi Sukkot of the coalition’s Religious Zionism Party said Wednesday that he’s doubtful Israel can win the release of all 128 of the October 7 hostages still being held by terrorists in the Gaza Strip.

“I wish it were possible to return all the hostages — I’m not sure that’s possible,” Sukkot told Radio 103FM, adding: “We need to do everything to bring them home, but not anything that will critically harm national security.”
