Part 3.

I hope they come home soon and there's no need for a part 4.

Hamas has apparently told the BBC they can't give the Israelis a list of living hostages because they don't know exactly who is alive or where all the hostages are.

So how do they propose organizing an exchange if there is a ceasefire? Gosh, could they be lying?

“Every encounter with captives in Gaza was truly exciting,” said Almog-Goldstein. “But three of the women were wounded, some had complex injuries, and some spoke about sexual assaults.”

And her husband and daughter were shot in the face in front of them.

I don't think that article is the Gotcha moment you think it is. I imagine she would have been more terrified thinking no one was bothering to come for them.

@EllaDisenchanted I can't believe it's been that long :(

That article about Chen Almog-Goldstein included her nuanced account of her horrific beyond words ordeal in a war she also recognises as being horrific when seen from the other side.

Yet you smugly accuse me of posting this as a Gotcha.

stomachamelon · 04/03/2024 20:34

@StarbucksSmarterSister it's been pointed out on other sites that they seem to know to the exact number who has been killed and where and yet don't know where the hostages are and how many are alive.

Odd that?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 05/03/2024 14:03

If Hamas is even unable to produce a list of names of living hostages, how on earth can anybody believe that it will be able to produce the actual hostages for any deal?

it's bollocks.

They seem pretty on-it when it comes to collating death and injury numbers generally though, do Hamas.

Maybe they should've thought of that people taking people hostage then.

That's 2 different 'parts' of Hamas tho' isn't it

'Hamas as government' visiting hospital morgues/hospitals to count the dead and injured

Versus 'Hamas et al as fighters/terrorists' kidnapping and hiding hostages

It's also a common theme from ordainary Gazans that they experience difficulty keeping in touch with family and friends - not knowing where they are and even if they are alive

It's really very worrying

So how are they going to produce any hostages in order to have the ceasefire? Israel will expect the first hostages to be produced certainly within a few days of the ceasefire but how on earth are they going to find them for that? The idea that they can miraculously produce people within days when currently they say they can't produce even a handful of names is rubbish, especially since any survivors are now believed to be in Rafah.

The only thing I can think is that under ceasefire conditions - no bombing but particularly no surveillance it will be easier for them to search out and find the hostages in Rafah without exposing themselves and the hideouts

They did successfully locate, transport and hand over hostages the end of November during that temporary ceasefire without having to produce any list prior to the pause. So I think @Efacsen is spot on that you need to stop the bombs dropping and the bullets flying to check in on all the isolated armed groups holding hostages. It would also increase the chances of a hostage list staying accurate. Compiling one while hostages could die at any moment makes it an impossible job to have a list of live hostages that is 100% accurate.

stomachamelon · 06/03/2024 15:34

@SummerFeverVenice that sounds like an excuse considering what is at risk.

I also wonder how many groups including other organisations and civilians have hostages and whether there is a chance some are no longer in Gaza.

Just too many variables.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 06/03/2024 18:54

Hamas latest demands are out, according to Arab sources apparently ( I haven't see the source myself). They Include serious terrorists releasing in the first phase:

Marwan Barghouti
Ahmed Saadat
Abdullah Barghouti
Ibrahim Hamed
Abbas Alsayed

Plus a whole bunch of other stuff which I won't bothered repeating because frankly they haven't got a cat in hell's chance and they know it.

Do they ask for the release of terrorists because they know it won't happen and then they can complain? Sinwar was released and look where that ended.

Do they not want lower level detainees rather than top notch terrorists?

This is the repeat of a 'thread'

Channel 12 (which is generally a reliable source) is reporting that several dozen families of hostages in the last couple of days have had 'signs of life' concerning their loved ones.

Info is being kept under wraps for security reasons.
